  1. I hoping the cam sensor will get it running right for you but have to agree with Mike on the VP being tired. The juice might have been the last straw for it. I just put a comp on mine and I hope it does not happen to me. This VP has had a steady diet of 2 stroke and good fuel pressure for the past 130k miles. We will see soon enough.
  2. Just so you know the clutch is not slipping with the comp off. Just made 420 mile run with the the 5th wheel(15k) in 5th gear and it never slipped. No matter how hard i was on the throttle. I only put in 6th a few times on level ground and did not slip it at half throttle. However if I turn on level one and get on it empty it slips as soon as the turbo spools.
  3. I noticed this in the wife's Dakota. Her mileage was down 5% to 10% with ethanol. But her little foot weighs about 1000#'s. I have not noticed any decrease in the 2500, some increase actually. I am not sure what the Comp is contributing. Installed that at the same time I started running the Bio. I am currently running it off due to clutch slippage. It still does boost fooling and lets the truck fuel pretty good past 20 psi of boost where before it would defuel once I hit 20 psi. I cant explain the mileage when I am usually running around 77 or 78 on most interstates with a 70 mph limit, slower on others. I just ran at 18.5 mpg from Chattanooga Tn to Hickory NC and back. 50% of that trip was thru the Smokies. Alot of hills to pull but a lot of coasting also.
  4. I have run some B-5 but mostly B-15 and 20 for the past 8k miles with no ill effects. Matter of fact some fuel economy increase. I did add an Edge comp about the same time so not sure what effect this has had on the mileage. I ran a tank of this while back and got one of the best tanks mileage wise ever. I still ran 16oz's of 2 stroke with the B5 and the B15. The B20 and this stuff run quieter than straight #2 and 2 stroke.I have only been running the bio this spring and summer, not sure about winter. So far no ill effects. I hope I am not screwing anything up because I am seeing more and more Bio almost everywhere i have been in the past 8 months. It is getting more prevalent. I guess I should add this. Many years ago when ethanol was first being pushed I thought that anything to get us of the arab teat had to be good. Since it has become so prevalent and the true cost is apparent I am against it. Every time you go to the grocery store you pay for it. I think the negatives outway the positives. That being said, I hope this is not as true for the Bio diesel. I know some of it comes from waste products, soy beans and such. I am not sure how these items effect any thing else. I need to do some more research. I would hate to find out it is no different in those respects because I would have to rethink using. We might not have much choice seeing that is being sold in more and more places. Plus me and the truck like it so far.
  5. Thanks Mike i was too burnt out last night to look up anything. Al you have to do for the TPS is disconnect the batteries for about 30 minutes, reconnect then turn the switch to on, no start, then slowly depress and release the throttle. Then turn the truck off and you are done.
  6. Anytime I work on my truck and when done something else malfunctions I usually suspect that I have don something. It is possible that you your cam sensor just crapped out or maybe has a bad connection. You will have to trouble shoot it. They can and will go out intermittently until completely crapping out, work good one minute and not the next. Did you disconnect the batteries while you were working on the install of the Edge? If so did you reset the TPS after re-connecting every thing? This can contribute to the rough running. I dont believe the gaskets had anything to do with. Mine are the oe and have been re used several times. I am do a set but the old ones are holding fine. The only time mine has run bad or been undrive able was when the VP crapped out at 75k, the lift pump crapped out around 150k, and when the ECM went at 220k. I would work on the cam sensor and see if that does not clear up the rough running and keep my fingers crossed that the 1690 and the 216 codes are related and one clears the other. I would also consider running 2 stroke oil in your fuel since this is the only thing that lubricates the VP. Today's ULSD is not what the VP was designed to run on. There is a lot of good info one this subject here on the site. It is to late to type anymore, let us know what happens with your trouble shooting.
  7. I had the same problem when I put last one in. I am paying the price now. I understand the problem however.
  8. How long has the Fass been on the truck? How long have you monitoring fuel pressure and what pressures are you seeing at idle and WOT?
  9. glad to see you are getting a bit of a break.
  10. As far as I know you should be good. You ought to do your rear main seal while you are that deep into it. by the way what clutch are you going to use? The SB I am going to use is only rated for 450 hp. Sufficient for me but maybe not you.
  11. I am pretty sure the tone ring is in the block and how you tighten is out of my realm of knowledge. I am sure some one else knows and will speak up. What makes you think your ECM is bad or going bad?
  12. Easiest thing to check, disconnect them and reset it. Is the truck running alright?
  13. I put rust protection mine with a leaky tappet cover gasket. It protects good but a little pricey and a giant mess. Leaky injector O rings will work just as well but pretty tough on the engine..
  14. voltage regulator in the PCM? Battery temp sensors bad? just guessing since I am a 3rd grader on electronics.
  15. The company I used also had a good BBB rating and seemed to know their stuff from talking with them. They did not however offer a lifetime warranty. I think mine was 5 years and they did replace the first one. It only took 4 or 5 weeks to get the second as I remember. Mean while I a renting a car for the wife and I was diving her Dakota. Do some research before you go that route. I googled diesel ecm source and found a bad review and none favorable. But I only spent 5 minutes doing it. If it does go south and turns out to be a POS, you now have a POS with a lifetime warranty if you pay the extra 100 bucks. I dont want to just run these folks down since I have no experience with them, but I would damn sure be careful. My adventure was no fun what so ever.
  16. I have to put a new clutch in mine soon. I will be going with the SB 1947 OFE single. It should handle any thing I have plus some 50hp injectors one day. Thats enough for this 62 year old.
  17. I thought the regulator was in the PCM and not ECM. Did not know the ECM had anything to do with the alternator. I am by far a 3rd grader on the electronics systems.
  18. For my education, how did the ECM burn up the alternator?
  19. Which tranny? you left out the the 6 or the 4. I am assuming the 6?
  20. I am usually running between 65 and 80 around 650* to 750* 0-3 psi on boost. the comp is off.
  21. This is more likely a PCM and not an ECM. Alot of the parts houses cal them ECM's. You need to be sure you are getting the right part. I went the internet rebuild route several years ago and it was a very unpleasant experience. I might have used ACE but am not sure. I would have to get home to confirm. I still have the 2nd one they sent me Makes a good paper weight. I would be darn sure other folks have used a provider with succes before I would trust any of them. When my 2nd rebuilt went out I found a local guy in Tennessee that put a Cummins ECM in for $1400 out the door. Even at the dealer price of $2050 was less than what it ended up costing me going the rebuild route. Even though I had no code for a bad ECM(P0606 IIRC)the first rebuild I installed set it immediately after install.
  22. At least the trucks are right side up. You must be doing something right.
  23. I bought some foam from the building supply and cut it to fit. This was the interior stuff if that is what you are speaking of.
