  1. As far as cables I say make them yourself. I did mine for about 115 bucks including the terminals. Used the military style battery terminals for another 20. I soldered mine with no issues since I did them 3 years ago. If you have a crimping tool you can crimp them instead. Some do not like the soldered connection.
  2. Same as mine is set up. I cant agree more with this. We are set up the same way and for about the same time. My last VP that lasted 265k ran its entire life on this set up and either 2 stroke or bio blend diesel. Never had any trouble running the fuel level down very low. Just to add I have stated that pump ran 275k but looking it was only 265k.
  3. Nice looking camper. You should enjoy it.
  4. Mine has run just fine for a decade with its current set up. I did base it on the 14 psi minimum. I do know some members here dont subscribe to that and thats fine with me. We all get to make our own choices. I do know prior to this set up I was having trouble with some bucking and dead pedal issues. This on the in tank pump that Dodge blessed me with. After taking the truck to a reputable shop and paying what I considered a fair price for there time, the only thing they could find was near 0 psi of FP under heavy throttle and about 4 psi at idle. as I remember. So I added a booster pump from BD diesel and the problem went away. I had no pressure gauge so how much it raised I dont know. Just know it worked. Nor do I have clue of fuel temps. It did make a good difference for me and I am good with my set up. If it is working fine with lower psi for anyone, run with it.
  5. This could be interesting if it works.
  6. On the other side my last VP went 275k. My fuel pressure is between 15 to 20 psi. Both return lines are in the fuel basket and I fill up mostly around the the low fuel light illuminating and below if on a long highway run. When just around town I still only fill up when below a quarter tank. I have about 40k on this new VP and it is on the same diet. It would seem to me there is still more than one way to skin this cat or should I say pluck the chicken.
  7. Jack the front wheels off the ground and grab them at 9 and 3 oclock. Pull the tire back and forth and it should be tight if the bearings are good. If there is slop they are going bad. My oe bearings went at around 200k but that was back in 09. Time will take as big a toll as mileage sometimes. If the front bearings are going you are in for an adventure. Dodge used no anti seize on anything and those bastards can get stuck really good. Liked to never got mine apart. So anything you do take apart in the front end coat the new with anti seize. Its a good for anything you replace.
  8. The Loves travel center I built a few years ago had their own bio tank in the on site tank farm and they mixed it on site. I used to buy their fuel for the bio but their prices on diesel are 15% higher than other places. Some of those have a sticker on the pump that says MAY contain 5% or less of bio. I like the stuff and the truck does to. But until I know what is in it I will add the 2 stroke.
  9. You do have valid p0int but the tax breaks have given to almost anyone selling EV's and hybrids. Not the first tax brake handed out by the gov to help sell things. I built a Love's truck stop and c store 2 years or so back. One of the rebates they got at the time was for selling diesel with bio diesel blended. That subsidy for the year I was there was $110 million dollars. That one fuel seller. How many others and how much they get is beyond me. Gov subsidies are a dime a dozen across the spectrum of our economy. I personally believe that it has helped newer technologies get to the benefit of the public. Is it all worth it is matter personal opinion I guess. Some subsidies a bull crap for sure. And the rate we are just throwing money at everything at the moment angers me to no end. That has blown my mind when I see free charging stations and different places. I do believe change in the near future. I galls me to think when I buy groceries somewhere that has those charging stations that I am helping pay for their fuel. Need to find a grocery store that gives away a couple gallons of diesel on each visit to even the score. No success yet.
  10. One thing I don't like about the EV's is they don't have to pay any road taxes, but that will change when they catch on. After all we all use the same roads. Got to maintain them.
  11. It will be interesting to see how this works out. The ev's are interesting for the around town stuff but my wife would never remeber to plug it in. As far as miles on my truck that ceased to be issue a good while back. Now it seems to be just how many I can rack up before my left leg gets tired.
  12. The lift pumps are a concern and you should think about changing over to an electric or mechanical. You get to make the choice. Pros and cons on both. In tank pumps suck in my opinion. Had one on mine and it did not last. About $1k for mine from Dodge 380k miles ago. If the truck is 100% stock maybe not a ticking time bomb, your guess is as good as mine.
  13. I am down to 650 to 800 now. But the truck keeps trucking along like its daring me to outlive it. Next job will be in New Orleans. It will get a break I have to fly back home to get there. Just curious if anyone has ever tried to press out the bushings with a ball joint press??
  14. Sounds pretty good. I hope it works out well for you.
  15. Get under the front truck and have some one turn the wheels back and forth. Then start looking at all the moving parts for any movement. All should be tight. Give the track a good look over. I just replaced mine because it was getting a touch loose on the frame end stud only the find bushing on the axle end was shot.
  16. Good to hear, that was a nasty cut. Enjoy the trip. Need some of that myself.
  17. You could check it with a test gauge just to be sure. I have to agree that you have protected pretty well.
  18. Mine is just cracked open. Takes a couple seconds to show full pressure. If I open more the needle jumps to full pressure almost immediately. It is getting harder to do on mine, Kind of feels like the valve seat has gotten hard over the years.
  19. Mine runs barely open, no snubber on about 4' of line to the mechanical gauge. Same as I set it up about 10 years ago.
  20. On a mechanical fuel pump higher pressure while revving the engine would be normal and lower pressure at idle would be normal. On an electric pump like mine it is the opposite. So I am not sure you have a problem.
  21. Thanks, this is a red letter day for me. I know nothing about the circuit either. I just know I have swapped relays on mine just to eliminate it as the problem. There are FSM's in the articles section you can down load for different model years of the 2nd gen and maybe the 3rd gen too. Thats how I got mine.
  22. @W-TThe horn test is just checking to see if a given relay is bad. If the horn honks we know that relay is good and beings the relays are the same I would just swap it for a questionable relay and see if it made any difference. If the horn still works I would now the relay is fine and the relay is not the problem.
  23. I think someone elese made fun of the straps. If works use it. I am curious of what that rebuild cost. It sounds expensive. Some things are worth the money though. My 5600 is in need of some service work. I got a spare I am thinking about sending to Super Stick in Texas. He has a good rep on the 5600.
  24. Good to have you back. With your help I made the gremlins leave me alone for a good while now.
