Smokers and Grillers Thread
I can just imagine what the smoke rolling off that thing smells like. I'll park to the left of it and leave the windows down, hopefully the smell will soak in.

Hail Call...........ISX
This last boulder incident was just insane. I mean I had to be on the gas as hard as I could to beat this guy and I was going so fast that I saw the boulder and hit both breaks so hard before I could even grab the clutch that the bike stalled so that was part of the reason he hit me I think since I wasn't moving out of his way. Interestingly enough, him hitting me started my bike back up (never pulled in the clutch at that point either) lol so it worked out, until the rest of him slammed into me. The only really bad but good thing is that this trail is the main trail that is wide with huge banked corners and its an absolute blast to ride on, but it's bidirectional. As in, that boulder coulda been a 5 year old on a little 4 wheeler.. So the fact that we only made it 1/4 mile into it before something like that happened was probably a good thing. We do it every year but sometimes we get really close to hitting someone. Last year I was following him and there was a little jump in the trail which became a little bigger at the speed we were going, but on the other side was a 90 corner and if you didn't make it there was a huge dropoff..so that was uh interesting lol. He just rides so fast that you can't even think of what you're doing. You see a tree stump, well its too late now cause your a foot from it lol. At the same place when I went a month ago (before the fast guy ran into me) we all swapped bikes. Well the guy I normally ride with has a 1990 kawasaki KDX 250 as basically a spare... Somehow I got the short end of the stick on that deal, everyone else was on bikes at least in the new millennium, which is a world of difference. Oddly enough I led the pack, and I figured if I rode a good pace on that old piece of crap, everyone else would be able to keep up just fine (i swear they are sunday drivers). Well I left them all. Not sure how, its like riding a couch through the woods. Eventually they caught up and my dad had gone the wrong way, brother had stalled it, and guy i usually ride with wasnt far behind me. So I told them all I was on a 1990.........and beating them. So that set the tone that they wanted to beat me, bad. Ok, bout time lol. So we took off, me in front, so they could all supposedly pass me. I went a little faster and they were keeping up a little, thing is, this thing has no brakes, like at all...Those old bikes had who knows what as brake pads. Carbide steel or something. The only way it would stop is if you clamped down as hard as you could, and even then it was hardly slowing down. So there I was, no brakes, everyone pushing me to go faster kinda, and it was actually getting fun because they were starting to pick up the pace, but with all the tight curves and no brakes...I had to improvise. I would go around corners too fast and the back tire swingarm would slide over and slam into trees and straighten me back out haha. That was a ton of fun. I like challenges and my bike is just so easy to ride that it kinda takes the challenge out of it (which is why I just go faster). So who wants to ride with me! Guy I ride with broke his foot on that same month ago trip.. Somehow he turned the front of his foot out and went past a tree that turned his foot all the way back until it broke.. Not sure what the deal was there since the handlebars stick out a lot farther than the footpeg.

Hail Call...........ISX
Not sure which is the last one you know of. I went riding a month ago and a guy on a 500 2 stroke was racing me through the woods and I was beating him which is nuts. This is the kinda guy that will just close his eyes and hold it wide open. So we go around a corner and up and hill and he saw that as his chance to catch up. I got over the hill and there was a boulder there, so I slam on the brakes and turn around it, well he was really on the gun so he was airborne while I was going around it. He slammed into me and threw me to the ground and he slammed into the rock, cutting his knee open and breaking some ribs. I have developed crash tactics so I kinda rolled off the bike during the incident. I just got a blood blister fingernail thats still completely black.

Michael.............How Close????
I think I will beat you. Jeep is at 199,??? Oh and it runs at 230F

Can we talk, or is it allowed to post about Obama Care?... couple Questions.....
I think the problem that creates all these other problems is that everyone has a difference of opinion.. I don't understand why people who never care to work or learn any skills that would allow them to work are entitled to money from my paycheck. The problem is that if you get laid off, would you not want the government to help you until the economy picks back up and you get your job back? So now we have handouts, being handed out from those who still have a job, who now wonder why you get part of their paycheck. Then there are those on disability. I realize there are people who are actually disabled but it seems like there are 10 people who COULD work for every 1 person that is actually disabled. I mean I have had heart surgery, I could say it hurts when I exert myself, now I get disability and could do nothing for life. They can't prove I'm not in any pain. It gets back to greed really. We say the rich are greedy, but most of them have put in a lot of long hours and such to get where they are. Their kids will probably be greedy since they always get what they want and will always be wanting more. But how are those getting welfare checks and disability checks any different? I'm not talking about those who deserve it I'm talking about those who say their ear hurts so they can get disability. Uhh back to the original topic of difference of opinion.. Everyone has a way to say their idea is best depending on how they portray it. I could say every 18 year old should be given $50k to get the economy going by sending them all to college or getting them all into a house worth living in and I could have statistics to prove the benefits. I could also say every 18 year old should have to put in 2 years of hard labor to pay off the 12 years of hell they gave their teachers lol. There doesn't seem to ever be a law or something that always works in every instance, and thats where all the turmoil gets involved. I could look over the most profitable city's economy, finances, everything, and it works great there obviously, but when I apply it to the nation, it brings the whole nation to a halt. Lets say everyone in NYC saved a lot by riding the bus, so obama saw that and took the initiative to put buses in every city. Well now we got a lot of buses with 1 person riding them and yeah what works in one scenario doesn't always work somewhere else. I think everyone needs to be well more like what John said with all of us being poorer. But then where would the incentive for innovation be? Now you see the problems with humanity...if you do one thing it affects another. Same with what Dobienut said, free health care in Canada but that means the doctors are paid by the government a fixed salary, and they don't see the point so that is why there isn't very good health care there. People like to be thanked for their services.. The superstar thing is unreal. I don't see how we have billions of dollars just floating around to pay all the celebrities. But like you all said, priorities are skewed. You will pay $50 to see whoever at a concert and probably would pay anything for actually because you think you NEED to see them, yet you go home and complain about the $5/gal milk.. Milk is practically as essential as water, yet we want it to be as cheap as coca cola People complained more about $5/gal milk than $5/gal gas. I really don't care about $5/gas because I can simply change priorities to allow for the cost. Everyone on the news said they could barely put bread on the table because of the $5 price and yadda yadda but the same people had $300 iphones which inherently carry a $70+/month bill. Priorities.... You can't please everyone, but I have learned that you can do just fine agreeing with people. This works a lot better in a small workplace environment than the government though So there will always be turmoil. There are differences of opinion within this thread, but it works out if you look at it from the other persons perspective, rather than just your own, which I think you all have done here so it hasn't broke out in war yet lol.

Gosh It's Hot!!!!!!!
That would be neat to see. I don't know what this one cools, ferminter or something. They do have this one huge oven thing that has a maybe 4ft diameter fun that sucks air in (loud as all get out and will suck you against it if your not careful) and that air feeds this fire, you can see in it through this little peephole and all you see is a huge fireball. No clue what thats for haha.

I really don't have any problem with political threads as long as they don't attack people. Like saying "anyone who voted for whoever is a loser"... In other words, keep it constructive

Broke down
I think a strong crosswind will do the same thing. I rode with a guy with probably the same size camper as you and going 70 down the interstate with a very strong crosswind ended up taking out a tire. You can feel the trailer pushing to the side and having to turn a lot to keep the thing straight, I wouldn't doubt it would be rolling the tire a little and causing that kind of wear. But I've been wrong before.

Gosh It's Hot!!!!!!!
Ethanol plant. Runs off two 200HP motors. Uh I think I got a pic of the whole contraption. I was standing behind that little shed in the video. That horizontal pipe is some 30" diameter.

6BT 12 valve Marine Pistons
I am not sure on those pistons but from what I have just read throughout the net, they have a bigger bowl to handle the fueling from the 370 injectors since the marine engines were rated at 370HP. The bowls are slightly offset which would definitely mean you need marine injectors. The only problem is that I for 1. am not an injector guru and 2. do not even know of any marine injectors under 370hp. Those things are huge and run hot from what I understand, which doesn't sound like the kind of thing you want. I will keep digging.

Gosh It's Hot!!!!!!!
BRING ON THE HEAT! Been 100+ for weeks now. I love going to work at 5 or 6am or whenever and it being a perfect 80*, windows down...so nice, especially last week when i was being sent to a place 45 min away, I always left early and took the scenic route. Only bad thing is I work next to this cooling tower and its so hot by 10am that it's hard not to jump in, but I don't mind the scorching heat. I hate the cold, I would move to death valley in an instant. Actualllly I video taped that cooling tower. http://youtu.be/N6heo2Wcp5A Now you see the temptation..

Leaking injector?
You are correct. But since you say it is definitely down there somewhere, it has to be either a crack or they just didn't tighten the injector halves enough. A pop test would show the leak since you can lock the pressure and just let it sit there and watch the leak drip.
-
Leaking injector?
In that case you could put them on a pop tester and pump them up to the point right before it pops and see where it's leaking.
-
Leaking injector?
In my experience the fuel line nuts are simple, injector hold down nuts are simple, the return lines on each injector are the issue. Those little horseshoe copper washers just don't like being messed with. You might try tightening them some more but I have fought a leak for a while now, finally got it to stop but those things really suck, especially when you wear them out like I do taking them out all the time. Copper seals by being smashed into all the crevices so you can't just snug them up. Give those 2 a little more torque. Should be around 10 ft/lbs. If they are still leaking you might have an indention in the washer that is too big to "smash" down flat so it is just leaking through it. To really be sure, let the truck idle and get an air hose and blow down the whole injector so it is completely dry and then watch the leak because that fuel has a way of seeping everywhere and making it look like something else is leaking.

Engine temp too high pulling my 5'er, What can I do
I started blowing my boot off and got a 100lb rated clamp. It's the one with the spring on them. Hasn't done it since and was only $5 or so, I know it was barely anything.

College GradS, Debt, 50% Can't get a Jobs..............
Where do I begin. When I was 15 I got a job at a steel shop racking steel and sweeping the entire place, sold steel to customers, worked in the machine shop there as an apprentice. After 3 years of that I ended up getting a factory job along with it. So from 7AM to 12PM or later sometimes, I was working. That kinda sucked since I had no free time so I quit the steel place job and stayed at the factory doing temp jobs all over the place. I ended up quiting that job and helping a guy run his car wash for a summer since he washed cars by hand. That wasn't really a paying job though so I got another job working construction. We built a Toyota dealership. Well that sucked even more because everyone there complained and there were more supervisors than workers so I ditched that place in short order. By that time, college started. I went to tech school to be an electrician and took an elective summer thing to also be a generator tech. When I got out of school, there was nothing. I couldn't find a job anywhere. Finally got one working on cell phone towers. We would go to the tower and change out the antennas from 3G to 4G. Well one of the foreman made it a point to do nothing but threaten me if I ever screwed up, even though it was apparent that I was the best "greenhorn" they had ever had. That really ticked me off because in the 6 weeks I worked for them, which was 6 weeks of being out in the field with them 24/7, there was just so much BS. The other foreman who I rode with in the company truck had anger management issues and would throw the entire CB unit at the windshield as hard as he could. Yeahhh I quit that place and started looking again, even though the per diem was getting me over $1000 a week, even after hotel costs and stuff. I have "job happiness" prioritized way over money though so quitting was a no brainer to me. I searched some more and finally got a job as an electrician. There was a lot of things in the electrician world that I hadn't seen but I quickly caught on and eventually could bend conduit better than any of the 20 people there. Today I would consider myself a master of the art. At this job they put everyone in pairs, so it was me and this other guy who had been an electrician for 20 years. He was going to quit the place until I came along and rejuvenated his interest because he couldn't bend conduit very good and when I showed him it could be done, he really got interested in it and continues to ask me questions to this day. But, he was a jerk. He would claim all of my conduit skills were the product of his own and make other false claims. It got to the point where he was so jealous that he would tell me my calculations were wrong after just glancing at my calculations. I thought that was absolute BS. We had been working in the same factory I had worked at before and this welder crew was there and they were a brand new company. The owner of the company had been taking notice of me (I actually thought he was coming on to me because he was always looking at me) and finally he came over to me while I was away from my coworkers (I thought he was gonna propose lmao) and asked if I wanted to work for him. Since I hated working with the jealous guy, I said what I great idea! It's been maybe a year now of working with this guy and he keeps expanding the company and is trying to get into boiler work at refineries and stuff. I have become a standalone electrician for him which is verrrrry nice. I learn more this way because I have nobody to go to when I have questions, so I have to find the answers myself and end up learning more that way. However, we still do a lot of work at that same factory and I find we are constantly just fixing someone else's crappy work. It wouldn't be so bad if the guy who we hired to fix the crappy work wasn't the guy who did the original crappy work.. I see so much jerry rigging and it drives me insane. I don't understand why something can't be done right the first time. This "rage" I guess you could call it, has been growing over the last year and it has ticked me off so much that I decided to go back to college at a university and become a mechanical engineer and possibly go on to aerospace. I want to be the one who designs stuff that ISN'T a rigged up thing destined to fail. I don't understand why everything has a tolerance for screw up, why can't it be exactly right? I know there are time constraints and stuff, but I can make my conduit exactly right faster than most people can bend their screwed up conduit that they have to beat the crap out of to make fit. So I think any "job" could be easily turned into precision work. As for starting my own company.... I don't know how, or I would. I hate the way the one I am at is ran since we have like 75% overhead and new trucks for all the salesmen yet the actual workers take the hit since we don't have enough of a lot of things. I have already made a flow chart for a "successful company" and developed a motto. I know some guys who would work for me and told me they would as well. I guess after all I have seen I have become very outgoing and will tell people exactly what I think. The boss knows this and when he wants something done right, he sends me out and me only. I had some kid helping me but someone in the company didn't like him and so they laid him off, more BS that makes me want my own company. One problem for me is I get bored with something once I know the majority of things about it. Maybe you guys notice I don't really post articles about my truck anymore.. I have gone through the entire thing and now it's to the point where I cannot "research" it anymore without spending a lot of money, which I don't have since I want to go to college again. After college, it would be great to tackle my truck again knowing what I will know afterwards and be able to get that damn thing over 30mpg. So that's my boring life story.

oil analysis
The letters are based on the periodic table of elements. Each element is a sign of what is wearing. I don't know what parts are made of what exact things but I can decode it for you (in pic).

Temp fluctuation
I would check the connection on the ECT sensor. I have a digital gauge with it's own temp probe that I stuck in the back of the head (stock ECT placement on 12V's) and it will never instantly change temps like that. When my thermostat opens initially, it drops off a degree every few seconds, it is by no means instant. Definitely not the instant drop to 150F like I had happening years ago. My oil pressure gauge has a bad connection on the probe itself and the oil pressure gauge kinda flutters as the wire shakes.Just saw your vid and yeah that thing was going from 188 to 194 every second..that's just not gonna happen like that. I'm putting my money on the ECT sensor/connection.

Filled up with fuel tonight...
Fill up today It's actually been a month since I have topped off. I went riding pulling our trailer and that had maybe 5000lbs of crap in it and that was going 60-70 (curvy hilly roads the whole way) for 450 miles. Then I been taking it to work the last 150. 18.48 mpg.

I love wrenching on my truck and the beer afterwards.
I work on my truck almost daily, without beer, if that tells you how screwed up I am.

Spool Aid
I looked through my pics and I can't even do it since I don't have this freeze plug. I don't even get why there is one in the intake. I suppose it would help a little but how much access to things do you lose with that pipe running over to it?
-
Spool Aid
I think your best bet is those twins. Without going with a variable turbo, you are stuck with just ranges of use. What would really be neat is some sort of exhaust rerouting mechanism because at higher RPM you need a bigger turbo, but obviously smaller at low RPM. But flow restrictions of a small turbo make it a bad idea concerning EGTs so you just split the difference and there you have an HX35. I noticed the latest engine made by MAN is the most efficient ever in its class and uses 2 turbos to stage the boost so it can reach 80psi. By having the boost really high, the valves open for a much shorter period because the high boost can ram that air out fast. Since the valves are shut longer, the power stroke is sealed longer (before the exhaust valve opens) and the intake valve closes sooner so the air can be compressed more. Uh but yes, twins!

Ac vents not working
In that first pic Mike posted on the very top on the left, that yellow line runs to that actuator diaphragm.. That is the one that opens the regular vents. Mine will do everything but run that actuator but it has enough vacuum to hold it open so I just reach up under there and push it by hand and then it holds in place. Just in case you were desperate..vise grip that one or something. There is in Mike's pic and another line goes back all the way through the firewall and back to another T that is by the brake booster on the firewall. You could start at that T and work your way up to the T under the dash.
