Snowmobile
Awesome old "sign" on a road outside of Fort Collins. Flying over the "outdoors" We flew from Colorado Springs to Grand Junction in a little over an hour via the "scenic" route. For the below pic, Pikes Peak is in the distance on the left, westbound for orientation. In Grand Junction... thanks for the free pizza! Working outdoors. Just about mud season... Father in laws old Jeep. Way more capable than it looks, the arms on this thing were 90% of the vehicle length. Near Walden, CO

06 dodge
Depends on your goals, personally I would get a Smarty Touch and do some transmission upgrades if you are looking for serious power. AH64 is our resident 3rd gen expert.

I am going for the "i have the right of way, my truck is big and old" look.

Icy roads
There are a lot of factors in a crash when it comes to survivability. The law of gross weight and momentum always dominates. Truck vs unloaded semi is similar to compact vs truck. I don't have much faith in any vehicle in a bad crash though. The frames and cabs in our trucks are not designed to protect us to a degree that say a cage and full harness would.

I'll have to dig some up

Intermittent voltage
I think that has more to do with the fact you wash your engine bay, and clean off any contaminants creating a path on your batteries/terminals.

Lots of Codes, where to start
I agree with MoparMan. I wouldn't start it until fuel pressure was verified... Can you describe the dead pedal? does it go to idle and the pedal does nothing or does the truck shudder?

Lots of Codes, where to start
For starters... http://articles.mopar1973man.com/2nd-generation-24v-dodge-cummins/59-obdii-error-codes-cummins Lots of codes, not a glaring pattern in them, but none of them are good. So, for clarification, when you unplugged the edge comp and reconnected the OEM connectors, the check engine light went out? Also, you do have confirmation of fuel pressure?

You might need to email russ, I don't think he has been around lately.

But, but... National Geographic said it would all be good, and that Wolves are the only way to restore balance.

Another one learn the cold truth of a fuel pressure gauge
Sounds good! plus, work is work.

need a radiator
The normal range is normal for a reason. Part of the wild swings is the huge radiator and excessive cooling capacity.

Would You Invest in My Truck or A Newer Truck
None of us are really coal rollers in the traditional sense. 3rd gen is nice, no doubt about it. I can't say that I am particularly a big fan of 6 speeds due to the cost of rebuilding them compared to the NV4500 or automatics. The 48RE in the 3rd gen is better in stock form than the 47RE. I dislike the 3rd gens dongs dings, and dings. They drive me nuts when I drive my dads truck. Backing up a hay trailer in reverse? open the door a little to look at the trailer in an odd turn? The horn goes off. Granted, it is a good safety item, but it makes me crazy. I love the 3rd gens for the 4 doors, lack of in cab noise, and ability to do a Smarty UDC tune. Other than those three (albeit big) items, I prefer the 2nd gen. I like the 2nd gens parts cost, looks, and simplicity. All that said, I still stand by what I said above and wish at times I had bought an 07 when they were new. I am happy with the truck I have, and will continue to keep up on maintenance until it starts to become prohibitive or a cheaper vehicle option comes available. I also am starting to consider buying a parts truck for my 2nd gen. If I could find a wrecked 02 or late 01 automatic for cheap with a blown motor or something, I would jump all over it. There is a saying that no car is cheaper than the one you already own. There is truth to that. But sometimes the comforts and improvements make the increased cost worth it. It is good you are going into this with the right mindset and doing your homework. When I sold my 2000 before I bought my 02, I considered a 3rd gen. I planned on replacing or at least pulling and testing all the injectors. I planned on buying some very good fuel filters to keep the injectors clean. Aside from that and some gauges, I was going to keep it stock. If I were looking at 3rd gens today with the higher miles and years on 3rd gens, I would plan on injectors, ball joints, brakes, possibly front hub bearings, and a transmission. Transmissions are generally abused, and mabe I would get lucky, but if I could plan on it, I wouldn't be so disappointed. However, I am one of those guys who just can't leave well enough alone.

NV4500 Problem
It points to an older truck that needs the trans pulled and checked out. There are likely a few items that need fixing that aren't causing problems yet, but you might as well pull it and check it out.

North Dakota Badlands #5 place 2C in 2016
Awful. Here come the tourists. I like the badlands. Lots of oil there too.

need a radiator
At the cost of labor, it really might not be that much different price wise. Hot tank & solder (or whatever they do on Aluminum) vs a brand new one.
-
need a radiator
In the past I've always used Performance Radiator, but since I started getting serious about changing my coolant every other year, I haven't had any issues with any coolant related parts.

Curious what others think of installing a blocking diode to prevent AC Noise
interesting!
-
No high pressure at vp when cold unless hotwired
That isn't a bad price. There will be some engine differences though in terms of sensors you will have to work with for an 02. I wouldn't trust the VP on any junkyard motor.

How is a zener able to do this?
