  1. I put a 170A mechman on mine, I haven't changed the belt on it yet. It squeaks on shutdown but works fine sofar. I hope to pick one up in the next week or so. Did you buy one of their alternators?
  2. How many volts AC is your alternator putting out at idle? Run it up to 2500 ish RPM slowly, then back to idle... what is the peak AC?
  3. I'd be careful about the input with the smarty. The smarty is known for a harsh torque curve off idle. Cajflynn, our old million miler used to say that even billet inputs will fail eventually if you tow heavy and drove far enough.
  4. For practical purposes short of hard core drag racing or crawling, the truetrac is an excellent diff. I put one in my half ton and it was great. A detroit will chatter a bit and grab too often for daily street use. As long as you have some torque applied to each wheel, (IE: one spinning a little) it will bias toward the most planted tire, which is what you want.
  5. Mike... Some cool stuff. From the AF side of the house. I wish there were more air assets to go around. Although like you've mentioned, it seems like the USFS (Fed) calls the shots. https://vimeo.com/user12946941/review/138043670/71e169e7cb
  6. I have used FTP a lot in the past in the oilfield. I'd have to dredge up some of the software I used to use. Most of it was a real time file sharing through satellite internet... Kind of a basic streaming system for data. Why use FTP? For photo sharing, Mikes stuff here is good for the forum. For big photos I use imgur. Photobucket was great 10 years ago, but it really sucks now.
  7. I also find it easy to be cynical and indifferent about the government. We really aren't doing things right much of the time... However, here is a quote that I find applicable by Col. Bull Simons (USA) "If history is any teacher, it teaches that when you get indifferent and you lose the will to fight, some other guy who has the will to fight will take you over." We can't quit. We have to be as involved as possible, and at minimum we need to vote. I personally feel that Trump is a loud mouthed bully with no personal character. We would be electing Gordon Gekko, aka: "Greed is Good" to office. I would much rather see Ted Cruz or Dr. Carson get the nomination. We need smarts, honor, and integrity, not just business cunning.
  8. I used part of the afe kit, but it required a cutting wheel, hammer, and welder.
  9. Threadlocker blue isn't recommended for plastic. Red is. The below stuff is also an option, but not to be found at the auto parts store. It is designed for plastic. http://www.henkelna.com/industrial/product-search-1554.htm?nodeid=8797887234049 If the boss that the screws go into is damaged, loose, or cracked it may not work though.
  10. Ah. Some flavor of loc tite then, metal on metal would be easy. It might take some reading on their site to find the metal to plastic threadlocker.
  11. As my dash plastic deteriorates, I do here a few squeaks now and again. If they are getting loose, the only thing I can think of is to see if there is an appropriate thread locker from Loctite that will work for it. If I repaint mine, it will be getting a new dash as well. There was a good thread here that I believe dripley did on dash replacement. I would also be concerned that it could be the control arms going bad off the front axle.
  12. I've done that. Shocked me the first time and I thought I fried my pump. I stood on it with an edge comp-smarty stack and let off quickly at about 35mph. Crack an injector, spin it, restart it, and learn to roll off the throttle a bit or learn to blip when you stop pulling. Basically you can make the VP44 lose prime by going from full flow and high boost to idle too fast. In a lot of pulling videos you will see guys stop pulling then see their trucks snort once or twice before idling smooth. They are stabbing the throttle.
  13. I bet it's getting air in the system or it isn't seeing 17 psi. What lift pump? How is the fuel px gauge run? Does it show quick drops at the pump or does it take 2 sec to bleed down? Id hot wire the fuel pump at the under hood relay and if it still dies I would suspect air being pushed forward.
  14. That sucks. A weird shutdown like that sounds electrical, like a connector or board stepping out for a minute. I'd check alternator ac, grounds, and start looking at connectors to see how they look. I love dielectric grease. http://articles.mopar1973man.com/2nd-generation-24v-dodge-cummins/59-obdii-error-codes-cummins/241-p0720-low-output-speed-sensor-rpm-above-15-mph
  15. Don't know of much. Unless you are really good at a foreign language.
  16. As you've noted Bill, my smaller turbined 62 and tight torque converter doesn't tow off the line very well at GCVW. Off the line heavy it requires a lot of fuel to start moving at any decent rate of acceleration. However, it drives amazing empty. I can idle around at 15mph. I just have to roll into it until I make about 10mph, then I don't smoke at all. It is tight and fast with no lag.
  17. Need a brake or electric load type dyno... I can't recall the term for it. I am not a fan of inertia dynos. One of my old employers hydraulic fracturing pumps would be easy. They can absorb well over 3000 hydraulic horsepower. All you need is a choke manifold, fluid tank, and appreciation of high pressure safety. It would run good on water / glycol. 4-6 big oilfield centrifugal pumps (4 ft tall ones) would work just as well, but it would take a LOT more volume and the loads could be more inconsistent.
  18. What I want to know, is what is different about engines designed for synthetic vs the same weight non synthetic. Do they run tighter bearings? Looser? Higher oil pressure? And if so,why.
  19. Whew. Scared me. I want to do my cam next year. I was wondering how you got zero gains. Regarding the clutch, thrash on... at least once you're done with school. I'll still split some dyno time with you in the spring.
  20. So. What were your settings? How did they compare to pre rebuild?
  21. Seen this? http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-powertrain/448005-vp44-biodiesel.html#/forumsite/20661/topics/448005
  22. James, what information are you looking for?
