1993 low power questions
I have a 92 5 spd. CTD and I can only suggest a couple things. Waste gate? Air intake boots, hoses for cracks? Esp. feel around down near the bottom sides for breaks in the hoses..About 5 years ago I had the fuel module in the tank almost completely disintigrate from rusting away. It was choking off my fuel the way it fell and was laid in the tank.I don't think the first gen trucks have an ECM do they?I'm at almost 400 k on my second mechanical lift pump. That could be a problem too. My fuel lines went bad too had to replace all the way from the tank. They were so brittle they'd break with little pulling.Hope you find it...... keep us posted.

Give me the Skinny!
Yep the front steering is still the same on the newer trucks as the second gens except maybe a better trac bar is all On a side note, I had a shop that I've been going to for over 30 years tell me that I didn't need ball joints nor tie rod ends. That's after I paid for a way to drop off the truck and get home. I then had to pay for a ride back to get the truck home. I did not like that. I had a partially wasted day since I missed some work. I talked with Source Automotive and they said we'll do the work on saturday that way it'll be easier to get a ride. They said 3 of the BJ's were dry and rusty. After they did the BJ's and tie rods the truck drives like a dream. I mean literally drives like a brand new truck I have the DSS and the 03 trac bar too.

Which Brake Pads... need to hear your experiences
Some of us aren't rich like some people I know. Besides after looking long enough, till the cows come home, I had to settle for an automatic :banghead:

Should I go organics so that I don't wear down the discs? Wear the pad down, not the rotors? is what I'm thinking.

Balance Beads or Traditional Lead Tire Weights??? Which Would You Recommend???
So far I've had good luck with the ones you peel and stick on inside the wheel. You cannot see them but the tire shop should use brake cleaner and clean the spot they stick-em on first.I don't like it when the different metals are together on the outside of the wheel rim (standard weights) cause I have seen the alloy rim get weird from electrolisys.

Am I just negative ? Or is our nation and world really on a downhill slide?
LIVE OAK,I like your perspective. It shows how the wrong colors can get mixed so slowly it finally changes the face of the whole nation with many never noticing. What you are saying too, not just about gun laws, gun rights, but, the very foundation, the very essence of the good people of this country is being slowly brainwashed destroyed disheartened eroded away. Can I go so far to say, attacking our own personal human strength / beliefs? Our very convictions for a strong honorable hard working nation? The more rules and regulations the more expensive freedom becomes. Unfortunately the rules and regulations aren't always for the good of the people but more and more for the good of taking in more revenue from fees and taxes This in turn secures their self perpetuation. You see the richer they become and remember if everyone was wealthy inflation would be so high no one would get the benefit of having lots of money. So by regulation and taxation they can make americans poorer and continue to have us do more work for even less. Essentially it becomes another way of procurring a future for the value of their wealth and the value of the assets they have. Communisn also creeps into a society. What was the name of that book most of us had to read back in high school? So we would be wary of the slow infectious change.

4 more years of mounting debt and we'll all be 'Greeced' For this reason I think silver will start to go up higher because it's worth smaller denominations in a sense, easier to exchange, not like gold where one coin is almost 2 grand.

RV windows draining tracks
The gutters are good except when hauling the camper in stormy weather. Those little vents are supposed to have covers on them also to keep out dirt and blowing rain.. I would not re bed anything on sidewalls with 5200. That stuff is murder to get off. Just use the butyl tape. You will enjoy the ease of it. As it squishes out (need to put enough on to get a good seal) you can see it's sealing up everywhere and you use a plastic scraper to remove the excess. It works good.Sometimes it's not the caulking that fails it's the prep that counts. I use solvents that won't dissolve the paint till the rags come off clean. Clean the window mounting surfaces and don't touch, oil from your hand can mess up the good seal.

Mike that second to the last sentence....... you got that right. Man!..... I tell ya around here even when you go to the local farm store, people in line act all put out because I still write checks. The cashier acts like I'm still in the stone age. Then we got almost everyone tailgating which is okay..... when the day comes I need to stop I'll get a whole new paint job. I'm payin' almost 4 grand a year in property tax and state income tax for the Gov't. to overdevelop with fast foods and stop lights. All we end up with is crowds, traffic everywhere.Be nice when I finally get out of here

It's better to take the leaking part off the camper, clean everything real good and re bed it in the butyl rubber sticky tape. Butyl tape at the hardware store is kinda not as sticky as the good stuff from the heating and air conditioning parts suppliers. If you can get the industrial stuff. The outside caulking really should be just cosmetic or minimal added insurance against leaks. I'm doing tests with different brands and types here in rain country (80 inches). I have a couple places where I did not caulk the perimeter, just used the butyl tape on the mating surfaces. So far so good because the outside caulk takes a lot of work to clean off when it's time to re do it.I'm wondering.... can you bend those little slot tabs back and forth till they break off? You'll need to get those vent slots cleared of the foam screen stuff too. They need to drain good and the gutters aren't a total solution to the problem.I learned a lot fixing my camper had, lot's of leaks. It was crazy at times, it was so bad.

RV windows draining tracks
Mine leak inside if the little drains get clogged from dirt. The factory was supposed to put those in when the windows were made. Every window has to have them. Only instead of a drilled hole they are supposed to be approx. 1/8'' high by about 3/8'' to a 1/4 long, like a slot, so they allow the dust to drain too without clogging. What happens when they start to clog is algae grows in there and they clog completely from time to time.I have to check mine every fall and clean those slots. O' course I know other slots has cleaned me out as well......

Darn..... I wish I could have read that, Thanks, I feel better knowing I'm not the only one. Mike, I need a backwoods place in a couple years. Sounds good for someone wanting to finally quit and get on with life/ back to basics.

Man! I can't believe the news, more violence and overwhelming debt are just a couple. How many you guys, like me, think we're seeing the beginnings of some insurmountable problems? All you can do is get in your truck, go campin', hunting, fishing.

Fuel psi from 20 to 13 psi???
Eric charged me 10 bucks for them picked up at his door. He's one heck of a good guy to do biz with. That's one thing I'm sure of

Fuel psi from 20 to 13 psi???
Eric at Vulcan Performance sold me the fittings to get rid of the quick connects. He was not surprised I wanted them gone. They just don't allow you to put the stock pump back on if your airdog raptor ever goes south. Eric did say he's told A/D they need to get rid of the quick connects cause they do leak air in.
-
Fuel psi from 20 to 13 psi???
Yeah that too..... it's important to have a filter in front of the L/P.
-
Fuel psi from 20 to 13 psi???
Lift pump will have to work much harder and loose pressure when the fuel tank can't breath. As you use up fuel air needs to displace the spent fuel. The OEM vent goes bad sometimes. I think I heard it's got a check ball that acts up sometimes. The check ball is in case of a roll over so the fuel can't leak out the vent. I put on my own vent to the left of the fuel cap.

Fuel psi from 20 to 13 psi???
Clogged tank vent? Check after a run by slowly unscrewing the fuel cap. If you hear a hissing sound the vent is clogged. Happened to one of my trucks.

Small cracks in the frame
I saw a couple heavy duty trucks frames get extended to carry longer water tanks. They just used a side plate drilled and bolted on the side of the old and new frame joined together. Called a 'sister' frame or gusset along side. It was just bolted in several places either side of the joint.Wouldn't that work to strengthen the frame in the cracked areas? Instead of welding? I really don't know but perhaps side plates on each side would be better.

Small cracks in the frame
I'd better start lookin' at mine. If I had any hairlines I'd reinforce the frame in those areas. Thanks for sharing this with pics.

T wo long hauls south on the 0216 code.....
Thanks to all......I like it when the VP gives some warning. I feel for the guys that get the surprise dead stop on the roadside. I'm guessing it's a 50/50 chance if you get a warning first or not.

Anyone use an additional in-line fuel filter?
I'm running a 30 micron 60 gallon per hour Racor W/S filter before the AD100. This allowed cutting out of the in tank screens. I heard they can have a clog problem. Mike, What makes the filters turn dark? I often cannot find any visible dirt on the element but they do turn dark.

Work?
I have been in construction full time since 1977. My life long pains and aches have stemmed from injuries with bosses or owners that have pushed too hard. Unreasonably so and is usually a result of greed or low bids. A company with a future has priorities of safety first, quality, then speed. A company with a future is able to run with the employees in mind, caring about them usually makes them care about the company in return and creates greater efficiency, greater productivity, lower stress and greater energy for the work. This is a known fact in common business practice and has been proven over and over with statistics.I used to be affected by greed or an occasional low bid (what a nightmare it was) until prayers became a big part of my life. Prayers with the heart are important not only just the words. It turned everything around in my life and my small company. Now a fun entity to own, I often look forward to ea. Monday rolling around again. Try understanding that one:think: but, God works in very mysterious ways :think:
