  1. My trucks got only 68,000 on it with the PO216 code. The thing that bugs me is it runs real well, with a little lesser mileage, but, the code was cleared and has not come back. At least with a half hours worth of driving anyway. The problem is, this truck is the one I use primarily for long distances. Blue Chip Diesel says it won't leave us stranded. I am hearing conflicting reports on that. How many you guys ever got the 216 code and your truck kept going many more miles? Thanks a bunch for any advice.P.S. I'm already scheduled to get a new VP on Tuesday. Just can't put my finger on it though.
  2. I forgot......... one other advantage of the Racor is the built in pump on the filter mount block. It's really easy priming up the fuel system with that on there. It's a really good pump since it will hold pressure up till you get in and start it. My first gen's had one on there for at least 10 years, never a problem with it.Many times this hand pump on the filter has helped, not only with filling both filters after install but, will also prime the whole system, helps find fuel leaks, even helped to diagnose something wrong on the truck.Man..... I wish Cummins built the whole truck.
  3. The good thing about all this..... you'll know going into one of these places....... chances are you'll get good polite customers and people around you when your eating. A family oriented place means they probably be more concerned about quality.
  4. Got to find a Chick-A fila place... want to try it for myself now.
  5. Good point John about the plastic cap. Although mines been under there 5 years without any problems I still think it needs a simple rock shield. I like the Racor because you can see the fuel in the bottom. I have added 1/2"shut off valves on either side of the filter and lift pump so if either one needs changing I won't get a bath of fuel. Valves help stop the tank drain back problems when changing the oem filter under the hood too.
  6. Racor makes one specific for the suction side of the pump. Might be an advantage. It won't work on the pressure side. Racor is pretty good stuff IMO.
  7. X2 here. It helps the second filter further down the line stay cleaner. I used a type made for use on the suction side of the pump made by Racor.
  8. Other than the 30 VAC showing up, my trucks' showing the same charging numbers.
  9. Mike, hate to throw a monkey wrench........ my trucks got no hunting but my DVM is showing 30.1 VAC Could this have anything to do with the PO 0216 showing up? Low fuel pressure from low voltage to the pump?.
  10. I wonder if I could eliminate the need for the activation relay ( potential future problem) by going directly off the alternator? Would this cause hard start issues?
  11. I just met a guy still on his original oem Carter L.P. I asked if he had a fuel pressure gauge..... all he said was, 'naw, why get a fuel pressure gauge?!', acting like I asked a stupid question, he says, I already got 185 thousand out of it and runs fine, why should I? With his insistent arguementive tone I didn't feel like telling him much till later on someday.
  12. I'm thinking that's what it is. Thanks for explaining a lot better. I tried clearing the code. It came right back. I'm not sure if just disconnecting batteries is all there is to it. Mike, if I had two dead batteries inside the camper, my frig ran them way down, could that create the po216 code since they are putting a huge demand on the trucks charging system causing the L/P to run weaker??
  13. I checked the flow on the return fuel. As you run up the rpm's the flow increases. A good sign, but, it's possible that the 216 code can show up when towing heavy on wot if fuel flow is somewhat restricted or a lift pump that might be getting worn.
  14. Is it still there? Goin out now to see if the code will clear... will report back.
  15. Dripley, I think you mentioned that you have your lift pump hooked directly to the alternator. Does that mean you have it wired direct without an activation relay?
  16. Now I got code 216:cry: after code 230 cleared by itself. Truck runs smooth as glass with no symptoms:think:. Has new Raptor 100 with the harness. Running 17.5 fuel pressure. Volt meter shows 13.1 volts at the lift pump when you bump the starter. Batteries at 13.6. fuel relay in the PDC tests good. Both filters changed 3,000 miles back with A clean and clear bowl on the Racor filter bowl.Okay, should I switch out the primary filter (suction side) from a 45 g.p.h. to a 90 g.p.h.? Might have too much restriction. I know I can pull f/p from 17.5 down to 14 with half inch fuel lines all the way.Should I not go to Yosemite with the 216 error code? It's a 1300 mile round trip... T.I.A.
  17. Good deal. Funny how I spent hours thinking about what should go in the truck tool box. I never put in any fuses:ashamed:
  18. Good idea Mike, as always. I think I will take my fuse size down a notch and carry extra fuses in the tool box.
  19. I did a job on the Salmon river way down stream from you. I'm glad it was way down river cause of all the beer.
  20. With so few miles for a CTD, it's still just a baby compared to my ol'e 12 valve, I cannot believe that engine would need any expensive repairs at all.I think it's the new EPA mandated oil causing it to burn away like that. Try switching oil brand just to see. My 92 burns up to 2 qts. away in 5k miles if driven hard with loads.Don't listen to me though, I'm still the 'diesel dummy' in many ways.
  21. Like that photo.....Have you guys noticed the Smart car?Looks like a death trap to me, like it would roll over with just the slightest push......and there is no roll cage?!... now that's SAD!
  22. Yep, my new one is exactly the same also with 1/2" lines and draw straw all the way. BTW, I do carry the extra stock pump in the tool box. One last thing.... after idahocountryboy's story, does anyone feel like the wire harness fuse should be smaller?
  23. Yeah, what'd you figure out?..... I'm all ears:popcorn:
  24. Welcome to the forum Andrew. Thanks for the tid bit on how your job has worked out. Interesting to hear about others job story.
  25. I think your right about the meat in the stores causing problems. Anyone else notice symptoms?
