  1. i have to rebuild my turbo as i think the shop that initially rebuilt it did a crappy job. i was burning about a quart every 1000 miles also on my way down from colorado. when i use the exhaust brake... holy smoke literally...

  3. found this useful vid of what goes on with bad injectors https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSwbGSeQsCo
  4. yup, when i rebuilt mine, the second the engine fired up it had oil pressure in under 10 or less. i would just change oil and filter, start it up wait 20 seconds and be good to go
  5. and this is why this place is so awesome!
  6. look forward to seeing the finished product
  7. how cold was it out? if it was below freezing you may have water freezing pushing steering fluid out?
  8. 2000 miles moved from colorado to florida, truck had zero issues coming down, need to redo the turbo as the place that rebuilt it didnt do well, when i use exhaust brake it weeps oil out the back turbo seal and burns it up when i get on the gas
  9. heres one with our adapter http://m.harborfreight.com/14-piece-diesel-compression-tester-set-46800.html
  10. you dont need to remove exhaust rockers to pull injectors/fyi. use the valve cover bolt and pull them out by hand could there possibly be something clogging the hard fuel line to #6?
  11. Soooooo after almost 2000miles cross country in 4 days, not a single issue with the truck, the turbo however has developed a leaking rear seal and barely smokes and i mean can hardly see it during driving, but then the exhaust brake is on and used when i go, it POOFS out blue white oil smoke tgat built up during the exhaust brake being on. so i get to redo the turbo...
  12. just checked valve seals, they are fine
  13. so i am having a similar issue, just reared its head yesterday. First time since rebuild too. engine is normal running temp and when exhaust brake is off, i am getting a faint blue oil haze from exhaust then goes away. if i decel with the exhaust brake and wait for the light with it on, when i push the go pedal is bellows blue smoke then clears quickly. so i either have a valve seal that rode up on the exhaust side or the backpressure on the newly rebuilt turbo is opening the seal and oil is getting by for a moment. ill check my findings tomorrow when i take valve cover off and check seals, i may switch to the "top hat" style seals but not sure if they will work on a 24v head
  14. how tight are the injector hold down plates?
  15. i second taking pan off, putting engine over a big catch pan and pouring diesel/gas over the valve train and washing it all away, then tilt on its bellhousing and inspect. id spray the tappet faces and cam with wd40 to get between there and loosen stuff that may have caught there. clean the oil pickup tube as well, put it all back together, run cheap oil in it for a day then change filter oil to good stuff and be good.
  16. as long as its above 14 and below 25, thats all that matter. enough to keep the overflow valve open on the vp and not enough to blow seals.
  17. if you take the vp off, you need to take the entire hard fuel line out. to me that is risking getting junk in the connections.. take the time to just do it with the vp in there.
  18. and when you redo it all, put the front end on stands, start the engine and turn wheel back forth fully to work air out. also try to prime the booster if possible. air in these systems when rebuilt is a pita to get out.
  19. its not too hard, remove the filter assembly, ecu, basically all the stuff in the way (except the vp) unbolt the cover, clean the surface on the block and the cover, put new gasket on (make sure it is on properly, the tab that reads forward should be front and facing out) then replace everything. done
  20. i keep hearing both sides, dry/lubed... i guess to each their own :/
