What EGT's do you all run?
Those EGT's from my prior post were level ground cruising. Any uphill, and she was 1100-1200. But I really wasn't that concerned with really maintaining speed on those hills. And that's running in below 0 conditions and pre Smarty!!!! I was still running the Edge J w/A. Stopped for fuel in there somewhere, and I left the truck run. In just the 10-15 minutes idling, the engine temp dropped to under 160.

What happenned to global warming?
I thought the cooling trend we're in now is from Al Gores big head and from getting so OBESE now that he's blocking out the suns rays from hitting the earth!!!:lmao2:

What EGT's do you all run?
2 years ago, coming home from a Texas hunting trip, the guy that was pulling the trailer.............well his d-max took a poop at Bloomington, IL. We still had 250 miles to go; so we swapped out the trailer onto my truck and the guys and their dogs ALL got into mine. 5 guys, 3 dogs and an 8x24 foot trailer. All that said though, that's not the best part!!!! Since leaving TX that day, the temps had been slowly dropping the whole trip home. By the time we got headed straight North in southern Illinois, the temp was 0 with a 30mph+ North wind. Anyhow, my truck with the 5 guys and 3 dogs and the big ___ trailer were going straight into this wind and the temperature was still dropping. By the time we made it back to SE Wisconsin, it was -15!!!! In order to maintain 60mph, my boost gauge was reading 20+psi however my EGT's were only running 750-800 over level ground. Engine temp was about 205. The trailer wasn't loaded that heavy (3 atv's, gear, coolers and tools), but it acted as a big wall behind the truck. Yup, these trucks are amazing. I still give the fellow with the d-max some crap about that trip.

Wore out track bar
I did not know that!!!!! I officially stand corrected!!!:banghead:

Wore out track bar
I don't know about 2nd gens, but you can buy urethane replacement track bar bushings from Geno's Garage. That's the way I'd go if possible. The bar itself doesn't wear out, just the OEM rubber bushings.

Wow...We Massachusetts voters finally got something right.
What the heck do you expect from a person that has never...........I mean never, had to EARN A LIVING in his life!!!!!!!:banghead::banghead::banghead:

Shocking information about Jay Z...
Without having to be subjected to watching that crap; which when said and done, I believe will wind up pissing me off..............who in "Sam Hell" is this ***** called JayZ????? This good ole boy ain't never heard of him, and judging by the pictures on those youtube thingies, I truly don't want to. These people that made this need to take a hard look at themselves in the mirror IMHO. However, the people that watch that crap are a bigger danger!!!

Thanks Clong!!!! In fact, I used to have that bumper sticker on an old car I had years ago. God, Guts and Guns Made America Great!!!

Coolant Flush on a 3rd Gen
I've changed out the coolant on my 04.5 twice now. I've never "flushed" the system although I had the means and products to do so. Judging by the condition of the coolant that I drained both times now, there was no need to "flush" the system........but that's just me. Take it for what it's worth. Great write up!!

Bypass Filter Intall on a 3rd Gen
Nice fabrication and install!!! Very nice in fact!!! However, doesn't it get messy when you change the bypass filter with it being mounted horizontally???!!!! I can see oil just pouring out of that bad boy when change out time comes!!!

Tight ball joints??
I'll see if I can find where I read about the adjustable Moogs. This fellow bought them and couldn't get the truck right. Went to the non-adjustable ones and problem solved. Because they're adjustable, means there is no base for them. You cannot get your other alignment parameters set then. Hang on, hopefully I can find it ............twas on another forum!!!!!!:nono:

A Dirty Word... Oil
And the 3rd gens take a full case or 12 quarts!!!!
-
Tight ball joints??
The drivers wheel should try to center itself if you release it after a turn. Sounds to me like the shop didn't align it properly or even at all. Did you get the adjustable Moogs??? If so, that's the problem.

Lost 4-5 mpg overnight
How cold has it been by you??? My winter mileage drops every year due to winter blended fuel and cold weather. The cold weather (below freezing and down to below 0) require more fuel to warm up, more fuel to pump that cold oil around the engine, more fuel to overcome the thick oil in the diffs and tranny and transfer case. Cold air is also denser which requires more energy to push through. You could've gotten a bad tank of fuel or fuel with a higher than normal bio % in it. That's if bio is sold around your parts.

and now i realize why so many of you gave up on CF.......
It would be interesting to see how many of the first 500 members are actually still members there and of those how many have been banned. I was member 211. I used to hang on the DTR............then I got an e-mail from Whitmore (I believe) to come on over to a new Cummins website forum. I did, I joined and all was well until there was a control power struggle and Whitmore left. Then it got to be nothing but a giant billboard.:2cents: For a few years there, that 2 stroke thread that I started and that Mike kept going with his research was the #1 thread on there as far as posts, pages and views go. And that's not counting all the other little off shoot threads regarding 2 stroke. Those threads always had some good heated debates many not withstanding the personal bias' of all but 1 moderator over there.:banghead:Call it conspiracy theory if you want; I believe they (Administrator etc.) were getting flack from some vendors by allowing threads that promoted a non-approved diesel additive. Even though some vendors were cool with it, I believe that to be the case. Follow the money the old saying goes. It also stands to reason, if you believe me, that they (the moderators etc.) would have a conflict of interest in their job of moderating. Does that make sense???? How can you be fair and impartial about something if you have an interest opposite of what is being talked about???? To be honest, at least 1 mod there and maybe 2 were cool. The rest had a bias that you could definitely sense. They wouldn't come right out and say as much; but it would be in the words they used and how they typed them. When you would call them out, like me, they didn't like it.:wtf:Off my soap box for now. I'll wait for more comments!!

Wow...We Massachusetts voters finally got something right.
Hopefully Illinois will follow!!!! We've got primary elections next week. Then in March the SCOTUS is hearing arguments in the McDonald vs. Chicago case regarding handguns. Similar to the Heller case in DC. From my research, I don't think Chicago can win!!!!

Moved to 2nd gen powertrain forum.

Common Rail Vs. VP44
Yeah Mike, those parts are expensive!!!!!:2cents: I've changed the CP3 on my truck. It started leaking......the seals went. That's what you get when you try and make half the pump aluminum and the other steel!!!! Believe it or not, for a brand new remanned pump, only cost $650 w/core from "The Diesel Store!!! It's a PITA to change out because of where it's located, but it's not difficult. The only real bugger about it is making sure you don't drop the CP3 nut or washer down into the front cover!!!!!!! If you do that, you've got a bigger job to do. Since I've replace the CP3, I have this metallic tapping once the engine warms up. I've done the research on this, and it's a gear lash caused by the piston strokes of the engine and CP3. The fix is to pull the CP3 gear and rotate the engine 30 degrees and put back together. It may take a time or two to find the sweet spot though. It's not a timing thing as it's more of a "phasing" of the piston strokes of the engine and CP3 to avoid the gear lashing sound. The tapping doesn't real cause anything accept unneeded wear.....which is minor at best. As far as FP to the CP3, my Walbro is pushing 25-30psi depending on the ambient outside air temp and how the truck has been running. It's probably less than that at the CP3 though because my sender is pre fuel filter..........and I have a 7micron filter in the OEM housing and a 2 micron filter from GDP plumbed in after that. I don't know the drop across the filters though. My fuel pressure is higher than others because Richard Martin from GDP set the regulator at like 22psi or so when he was selling his Walbro fuel systems. The CP3 can handle almost any pressure you throw at it unlike the VP. Actually at about 60psi, you'll crack the plastic top on the OEM fuel filter housing!!!!When my injectors go South, I think I'm gonna get some 40hp F1's or the mileage max ones. I know that Don M is a piece of work and difficult to deal with, but he's the best. Besides, his injectors are cheaper that getting them from DDP. The F1's for six cost $1100..........and Don does his magic to all the injectors there. Flow test, hone etc. Hopefully I won't need them for a while. I've got 115,xxx on the clock now and she's running good. Got a couple of minor issues that I'll post in another thread.

and now i realize why so many of you gave up on CF.......
Administrator, BBRam, et al need to "come out of the closet"!!!! They're hiding behind their trucks and that POS site!!!! What's the record over there for getting banned??? 3 times here under 3 different names!!!!:lmao2: After reading the link to CF, I can guarantee you this................I would've gotten my PP spanked real early on had I posted anything similar like that other guy did!!!!! Right Mike???!!! Remember what got me banned the last time????? For you new guys, here it is in a nutshell.......................... There was a post over there entitled "The Finish Line". It was originally started by someone to get BBRAM to finish the build on his truck. Well it started off fine, but then took turns every which way. By about page 30 you wouldn't have known what they were talking about if you read the title of the thread. Any how, the thread got to be over 1000 pages long!!! I put my .02 cents in on that thread saying that it should be closed for going off topic. Well, I got over ruled by guess who!!!!! So I posted again saying that if this thread was about anyone else or his truck except BBRam, it would've been closed a long time ago. Well I got a warning on that. The following morning I was in a mood so I posted a new thread entitled........."BBRam Hunting Attire"......along with the following picture.:lmao2: Worthy of a banning?????? I truly believe that had anyone other than myself had posted the same thing the same way, nothing would've been said or done!!!!!

2003 HO Cummins wont start
How many miles on that '03???? There have been a lot of threads on the various Cummins forums about '03 no start conditions recently. More often than not, it winds up being the injectors. Need new ones or remans. You're gonna spend $$$$$ if that's the case. You can disconnect the grid heater, and give her a little shot of ether to get her running. But please disconnect the grid heater before spraying the ether!!!!!!

Done Experimenting
Remember, I've got the Smarty Revo. I can advance timing if I want.....................I've tried it, and I get "timing rattle" probably due to the "tone wheel" mod that I did!! I suppose I could try to "retard" the tone wheel a bit and then advance the timing with the Smarty.......................kind of the same thing, different way though; right????With the Smarty Revo, the timing on the "default settings" is stock which I'm running. No timing increase unless you tell it so in the "options"!!!If y'all like, I'll scan and post the destructions from my Smarty!!!

Done Experimenting
Just over a month ago........when the really cold weather got here..........I decided to experiment with the Smarty setiings on my truck. Well, for 1+ month now I've been driving on SW3. The mileage sucks when compared to SW5........at least on my truck. I switched back this morning, and...........holy cow, I've got OOOOOMMMFFFF!!!!! now!!!!! SW3 on default setting was/is a puke on my truck. SW3 is 60hp. SW5 is 90hp. For the month on SW3 I ws getting about 16-17mpg.........it was really, really cold in that span though. I ran SW5 for over a year prior to this "experiment". Stupid me!!!!! If it ain't broke, fix it until it is!!! Hopefully on SW5 I can get back to the 18-19mpg on winter fuel like last year.
