  1. 2001 coming up on 100K. Do all late 90's and early 2000's have killer dowel pin problem or just the 53 block? I know my odds of a failure are slim; coming up on 100K. But want to make sure. I'm unsure if "Mexican" block cracks more than the "53" series or if the killer dowel pin getting loose and falling is prone to one block or another or both? Thanks

I am currently in the middle of my rebuild of my 99 cummins. I made one mistake in my disassembly of the block. I forgot to remove the tappets and lay them out in order and with everything else after i removed cam. I spun the block on the stand to work on something else and down fell all 12 tappets onto the garage floor as I am chasing them down before they rolled under bench, cussing my way as I go. Now my question to you guys is this, how important is it for the tappets to go where they where. Everything else is meticulously laid out and my ocd is driving me up the wall about this. Does it matter? I can not see any differance in wear, marks, …

  4. Scored a fuel tank yesterday, and in process of correcting 1/4 tank issues. Is it alright to use stainless metal bolts and a nylox nut to keep basket in position. My corrugated draw straw is the thing only providing tension between bottom of basket and top. I’m extending draw straw, so no longer will draw straw provide spring tension. I'm thinking the basket needs something to keep draw straw sucking near bottom of tank. I don’t know if stainless steel or nylox is OK to use in fuel system... or should I use some type of glue? What is OK to use in fuel system? Thanks

So I know that the lockup switch is a pretty well discussed topic but I was wondering. For those that have the switch either momentary or constant, do you see any benefit to having the option to use either one? For instance, I was thinking of having a momentary foot peddle switch up by the parking brake and another on/off switch on my console somewhere for times where I would want to keep it on and not have to hold the foot switch down. Good? bad? dumb? pointless? genius?!

The owner called me today and had a p0232 code. Truck runs fine but can't erase the code. Unplug the VP44 and still, the code remains. Now if he removed the fuel pump relay in the PDC it would erase the code but return instantly if the relay was plugged back in. This owner also admitted to having a BD noise filter as well. I told him to test the alternator for excessive AC noise. Back to the VP44 code, he mentions he had a second pump. So I had him just plug it in without installing the pump and the code erased and stayed out. So again another AC noise story that ate a VP44 because the owner was battling the torque converter lock up issue and ate the V…

So I bought my first truck, a 99 Dodge Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel, last July. A couple months later I started having what I found out was called a "dead peddle" issue. It started losing power & not accelerating as I'd press the throttle down. After the rpm dropped so much I'd get the power back & it would start screaming up the road (as I had the throttle pushed down signicantly). As it started getting cold I noticed it got worse. I'd lose power after driving up the road a few hundred feet & wouldn't really get it back until the truck warmed up. Some have said it only affected it w/in a certain range but mine did it no matrer what, even if I had it floored. I star…

Two questions about fuel module 1. Bottom of fuel module there is a couple screen filters. I broke mine yesterday trying to clean the module up. With an Airdog and 2 micron filter, do I even need to have a screen? 2. If screen is not needed, can I cut off the bottom and extend draw straw to make sure zero chance of ¼ tanks issues? Thanks

Anyone know who makes the oem intercooler? I think I read somewhere it was Valeo? VALEO 817151 I think mine is leaking somewhere, need to do a boost leak test next weekend to verify, and I can't justify spending almost $900 for a Mishimoto, the cheapest one, when I can get oem for $400. Correct me if I'm wrong, but an aftermarket intercooler isn't going to net me much of anything with 100hp injectors, super b, quadzilla xzt and not towing really heavy.

  13. I'm going to refer to my VP44 post for the first part here. So you should be to this point if you have done all the work on the link above. So we'll continue to remove the tappet cover and replace the tappet cover gasket on the driver side of the engine. On my truck, the leak is very minor but I want to get this resolved before it gets worse. Being I'm already replacing a VP44 it just a good time to do the tappet cover gasket and fix that oil leak. You need to remove the two 15mm bolts for the rear hoist ring. This is so you can gain access to the #6 injection line nut at the rear of the head. Now you need to remove the two 10mm bol…

About a month ago while changing oil and looking over everything I noticed my exhaust manifold was cracked. Thanks to @TFaoro who still had his stock manifold. I finally had time to get it installed yesterday. My manifold was cracked much farther than you could see on the truck. Here are a few pictures.

Hi guys. I'm in the middle of doing a shift kit and I noticed my frond band is pretty low. I've read that you can pull the band out and put a new one in without pulling the transmission. Can anyone confirm? Maybe give me a part number? I need to put truck back together by Wednesday. Heres what my band looks like.

Well, the day's finally come!!! Called and setup my appointment with Jon so he can set me up with a proper transmission! I can't wait to finally have a trans that I won't have to worry about and then I can start looking at some more power! I'll keep this thread up to date on my trip out there and try and snap a few pics here and there and then any follow on stuff once I have the trans installed.

  19. Hey everyone I have been doing a ton of research lately trying to figure out what upgrade I want to do on my truck. I have looked over many different threads regarding injectors however these threads are almost 8 years old now. I have also been following the Quadzilla V2 threads very closely and recently purchased the iQuadBT. Like most guys I have gotten the thirst for more horsepower. I am on a limited budget and I am still looking for a reliable daily driver. So my question to you is, if you guys could go back and start with a truck that only had 63,000 miles on it what would you upgrade next? Here is my list of upgrades(for now): 1. 5 inch Turbo…
