I am having a problem with the overdrive button. Most times I have to press it numerous times to get it to engage. What's the fix?

  2. Hi all, Started noticing a problem with my truck when it shifts into overdrive. Driving down the road, truck shifts through the gears normal kicks into overdrive and then starts acting differently. It will cruise fine under light throttle... as soon as I give it throttle, it responds very sluggishly, starts throwing consistent black smoke, the EGT's will jump up, and the truck is vibrating. It will continue to do this until it really gets up and going, or if I let off the throttle. It really is a pain because the truck drives in overdrive a lot on the 35-50mph roads around here. This has just started happening and seems to…

Im a new guy on this forum, This is my first post and hope to exchange a lot of infro on this site, Any way I have been tyring to figure out an annoying leak comming from ps pump out the cap for months, The pump seems to Be genarating fluid and overflowing out cap. I can drain pump down a bit and it wont leak for awhile, then about a few hundres miles later it gains a few ounces and pukes it out cap, and of course makes a mess everywhere. I have already changed fluid (put ps fluid back in) and bled system, so I know those ideas wont help, I rebuilt vacuum pump about 150,00 miles ago, and there is no external leakage. The oil comming out of pump is real black, Is it possab…

Another Cummins with a plugged radiator. Funny part was the front was plugged with mud. The fan side was plugged with oil from the breather. The radiator needed a good rinsing the hit with purple degreaser and soak a bit then rinse it off. It looked nearly new afterward. I yanked the old breather bottle off and install a Mopar1973Man Crankcase vent.

  8. Hey folks need advice on how effective adding a aux trans cooler will be to keeping my trans temps in check, I bought my 2001 with 300k from my uncle in law. He was the original owner and always serviced it at my father in law's shop. I only using for hunting, camping and occasional trailer hauling trips. I'm a park ranger in Nevada and love backcountry hunting, climbing, mountain biking etc... My favorite spot involves a 45+ minute climb in 4LO to get up a series of switchbacks from 5500' to 8000'. The transmission, and eventually the motor gets hot. Trans 225+ motor 210. Juice will read the temp sensor I installed in the transmission on passenger…

  10. on occasion, I have had a CEL, and the P 1693 code. I had the ECU codes checked, and it was the crank position sensor. The CEL randomly has appeared, and nothing has happened except in 2-5 starts, the CEL goes out. This happened again two days ago. Today, CEL came on again, and on the way home from work, the engine stuttered. just a miss of maybe 2 or 3 power cycles, but ran smooth with good power otherwise. I am unaware of how to get both P done, I've tried and only get one, with the P1693 code. How is this done?Am I finally having to pay attention to the crank position sensor? Any pointers? Thanks for the input.

My truck a 2002 hd 2500 5 speed, threw the following codes today P PCU 1693, then P ECU 1689.Truck has been running great for 140000+ miles, I replaced the lift pump awhile back with flowmax from bd. It ran fine after the replacement no codes, and fixed the problem of the engine surging, when I first engage the clutch, had to fuel the engine up a little, even in first, but more present in 2nd. So i was thinking the stock lift pump was weak.I just added a Bully Dog Outlook with PE to the truck. After this I noticed the surging came back (when on a power level other than stock) especially when the engine cold, have to fuel engine up a little when engaging the clutch, or sur…

Hello all, Having some issues after the swap. Truck is a 99 manual and the new engine is 00. Truck was running fine before with the p-pump now it wont charge or tach. Original ecm, sensors, and harness being used. Wait to start light comes on like it should. Fuel pump will cycle on ignition then wont come back during cranking. Map, AIT, oil, crank, and cam sensors are all getting 4.9v. Wish it was easy to just delete the ecu. Any diagnosing methods I should be doing? Help is greatly appreciated.

I did not use my apps and im thinking that's why my cruise stopped working. Is there a way to trick the ecm into thinking I still have an apps? Perhaps a resistor stuffed into the apps plug?

  16. My son has a 2002 Ram 2500 HO 6 speed manual. About a week ago, the codes p0112 and p0237 showed up.We took off the Edge EZ otherwise the truck is stock.Cleaned the IAT sensor. Did not look that dirty. The MAC Scan tool (determinator) was unable to read the IAT or MAP voltages. Not sure if this is a limitation of the scan tool or an ECM problem. We cleared the codes but they return immediately when the ignition is on. We checked all the grounds and cleaned the battery terminals. The batteries were both at 12.7 volts.Measured resistance from the IAT gnd terminal on the connecter to engine block and got 0-0.1 ohms.So I think the grounds are ok. Measured the voltage of the IAT …

P0237 - low volt P0112 - low volt P01475 - 5v high DTCs popped up a few days ago. Had noticed a very slight surge in light throttle circumstances. Also my truck goes into high idle and its 60-80 degrees out. I unplugged my tst from the map to see if that was the issue. No luck I have gone nuts cleaning all my grounds. Used an old thread on here to help locate them all. Only ground I missed is behind the starter. Plan on pulling starter to rule it out. Ive cleaned map and IAT connections. Going to pull the sensors tonight and clean them. I cant find any pinched or scored wires. I have 5volts at the MAP connection and the IAT connection. Code cant be cleared …

  18. Hi, I am in need of help with my truck. I just did the head gasket and had the head surfaced, put in arp head studs. Put the truck all back together and now it starts hard. It takes two good cranking sessions when it's cold(40 degrees) after sitting all night and even with the engine hot it still takes a good 15 second crank to fire. The truck was extremely hard to start after reassembly, it took a lot longer than normal to bleed the fuel lines than previous times. My grid heater is working and my wait to start light is working. So why is it starting hard? It used to never crank more than 2-5 seconds cold. I can't find the plugin for the IAT sensor after putting the head …

  19. UPDATE: Ok, when the head went on my truck for some reason the key was turned on a few times with a bunch of the sensors unplugged. When I had them cleared the check engine light wouldn't go out. Most of the codes went away but I still had one or two. I've had to fix so much on this truck I've been a little overwhelmed on what to do first. Everything seemed fine with that stuff so I've tackled a bunch of other things. But now I have a P0113 and P0382. The truck stalled at a stop light the other night and wouldn't start. I don't have any codes for the VP. So I don't think its that but I know its always hard to tell. This is one of those weird problems. But I don't actually…

I have always gotten a random P0121 code usually I clear it and it comes back in a couple of months. But this time I caught it in action with my quad. When the dead pedal happens the quad show the throttle 100% open and stays that way till I push the throttle a couple of times. Has anyone else had this issue? Also I need to do the W-T grounding mod. Hopefully on my days off coming up soon. My fuel pressure is 15-16psi, checked for AC voltage 3 months ago and it was good (Will do it again before and after the grounding mod), and this has happened in hot and cold weather, short or long drives.
