I have a 96-24 valve motor, it has 300,00 miles on it and still runs great....but yesterday she started throwing oil out and over EVERYTHING....The timing cover is "cracked" they say the motor needs to come out to repair it???? $2700.00......don't sound right to me.Have any of you changed or repaired the timing cover on this motor? What could cause this condition? How bad of a job is it to change / repair?Where could I get a replacement cover? Is the timing cover on this motor steel or plasticMany thanks as always for your help. Randy

I have a 2002 Ram 2500 Rwd 5.9L H.O. 6 speed. I had a small oil leak. It was leaking out of the over flow catch bottle. So, I did the crank case vent mod that I found in the tech articles here. So small oil lear went to a smaller oil leak. I power washed the driver side of the engine to get a better look at where the leak is coming from. It only leaks when its running. There is usually about 3 drops on the ground after you shout it off.It appears that the oil leak is coming from where the vp44 pump and air pump/ power steering pump bolts to the back of the timing plate. I guess my main question is how hard this is to do and what is the best way to attack this. Can…

Getting ready to install new billet torque converter in the old 47re. Just wanting some tips on what else should be replaced while I have it out. Rear main, front pump seal kit? If anyone knows of a good brand pump seal kit let me know. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Also, what's the best filter?

  4. So feeling like a bit of an idiot for trying this project during a very cold weekend which is contributing to my install. Not my first time upgrading injectors. However, can’t get 5&6 injectors to seat. Can’t apply enough pressure to push down on them and as they near the back can’t swing a mallet either. it’s just about freezing so fighting the cold metal and moisture in the air which is making it doubly hard. Anyone have any experience or tips to seat these? Can I use the hold down rocker arms and and torque the hold down bolts to seat them? Dumb of me to try this in the cold but hey.

Mike, I saw on Cummins Forum, your/the tire pressure formula. (Axle weight / 2) / Tire Capacity weight ) x Tire Max Pressure = Infation Pressure. So my 'normal formula is: Dual Rating: ((4200 /2) / 3415 x 80 = 49.19 psi Single Rating: ((4200 /2) /3085 x 80 = 54.45 psi My question is do you add the load weight over the axle, ie. pin weight, or w/e weight is on the axle? If not, why? The tires still bare that added weight to the truck. So would the the formula look like this with pin weight of 3000 lbs.? Single Rating: ((4200 + 3000 /2) / 3085 x 80 = 93.35 psi? Dual Rating: ((4200+3000/2) / 3415 x 80 = 84.33 …

    So I have been kicking tires lol, this is what I came up with. My truck has to have 3.55 gear ratio, at 65 its 1800 or so and sucks as a 1 ton tow rig. This tire comparison is a Firestone LT 235 85 r16 to LT235 75 r16 Tire 1 Tire 2 Diff Diameter 31.73 29,88 -6.19 with 9.25 same sidewall 7.86 6.94 -13.33 circumference 99.68 93.86 - 6.19 Revs/mile 635.65 …

  9. So the truck came with a set of Rickson wheels 19.5" and a set of tires that were less than a year old. I liked the old forged-in-America wheels so I decided ot keep them on the truck. I have never had one of these trucks befoer this one so I have no comparative baseline on how it "should" run and drive. In LA these trucks are like hen's teeth and I have not found anyone near me that knows much abou them at all. My local dodge dealer is a waste of real estate and every time I've gone there they turn up their nose at my old truck and try to sell me a new truck :-) I couldn't even get a radiotor cap from that palce. After studdying this issue of …

Currently running LT265/75/16E Mich M/S. Dodge recommended LT245/75/16E. Poor fuel mileage towing 8000lb Tag Along Travel Trailer. How much in safety am I giving up if I go to LT235/85/16E A/T in hopes of improving fuel MPHs? 2001 Ram 2500HD Diesel 4sp A/T. Have done the Banks Power Pack deal and A/B Cold Air Filter with no increase in MPHs.

I have been running stock since I damaged my original motor a few years ago. I have not kept up with the latest trends. I run around with a lot of weight as a welding truck, 10k the last time I checked. I am putting my 50hp injectors in this motor soon. I almost want to stay with just inj. but I dont know whats out there, I have read some on the smarty. I do pull heavy sometimes, 20-28k. Any info would be great, Thanks

So I have a 2000 dodge ram 2500 24 valve as far as I know has 345k miles on it. Runs pretty good I guess but the mileage is concerning. I wanted to do some mods maybe get 350 400 hp but the mileage concerns me. I did the oil fill cap blow by test and it doesn't move a mm. The engine does need multiple oil leaks fixed but other wise seems OK despite some recent electrical issues. Should I consider giving it a rebuild or atleast rolling some new bearings in it before squeezing some mo powa out of it? Or should I just send it and figure it out later. I am willing to spend some money but am definitely on a budget.

So I'm bored here at work thinking deep, Have 206k on my 01, factory VP. Im second owner, bought at 120k miles December of 2015. Previous owner hauled camper to Florida and back and maintained it with regular oil and filter changes all documented. First thing I did was on my way home order a Air dog rapotor factory replacement. 2 days later it showed up and ran fleetguard fs19855 filters with 5k miles changes. That pump died in August of 2017. Then a Fass titanium 165 was put on and I ran the factory Fass filters for 11k miles and am doing 15k mile changes on fleetguard fs1000 and CAT IR0750. And every oil change I buy a 16…

  16. So a while back my truck started having a Miss while running down the road, it seems like it was worse when you would pull a load to begin with. After a while this mess began to be more of a nuisance and would show up sometimes only when you're giving it throttle and sometimes only when you're getting off the fuel. This issue has been going on for about 4 months and seemingly to get progressively worse and has gotten out to the point to where I can't drive the truck. I've cleaned the batteries make sure I have good connections at 12 volts in each battery and the truck will start fine and run for about 3 minutes and start stumbling and eventually stalling I've eliminated t…

So I'm going down the interstate in my 1998.5 24v and noticed 0 (zero) fuel pressure. Pulled over as soon as I could and shut down. My FASS usually makes noise. Now it is silent. It's dead. Here is what I know: - Its getting electrical current. Upon bumping the starter, the test light (at the lead that goes into the pump motor) turn on for a bit and then goes off. So the wire to the pump it hot. - It's not a fuel line clog. The truck does run after all. In fact, I didn't notice anything wrong such as lack of power or stumbling. And I'm towing a largeish RV. The gage was the only thing to indicate problems. - Tried the loosing of the three bolts at th…

I'm leaning more and more to keeping the 99, Added up close to $6,000 in new parts. One thing that I don't understand is in March of this year another rear seal was put in and it is also leaking. It's not a big leak but a little drip periodically. Where should I start looking and how do I verify an issue is causing this? Center Bearing seems to be fine. There is no way I can jack this truck up to get under it but I have a friend who has a shop that will put it on a rack for inspection. Should I try and find a diesel shop that deals with diesel repairs to take a look. So far the Dodge Dealership, a second automotive repair shop and a third repair shop that just put on new …

  20. These ford seals may or may not work with sertain valve springs, be sure to measure all Id/od before committing. So I'm in process of figuring out why some of my seals are tore/smashed. Finding out that new style seals 03 and up may work on our 2nd gen. They are held in place by spring and can't come up from too much boost etc. I've spoken with https://ussealparts.com and they have both styles at great prices, although top hat style is listed for 03 and newer. The difference I believe is in ID where it slides over guide, sounds like top hat is slightly bigger but that should not affect the sealing capabilities as valve still same diameter. I ordered both style…
