In an ISO air filter test, ( iso duramax iso 5011 testing) They reference the average CFM of the test was 350 cfm. Isn't that a low CFM for a diesel air filter test?

My Son`s 2000, 3500 has had some erratic transmission behavior going on for a little while. It seems like a the familiar TC lock/ unlock issue.. At lower speeds and rpm it continually searches. Turn the overdrive off and the issue goes away. He pulled the alternator fuse and took it for a test drive and the issue also went away. Now fast forward. He bought what I believe was a remanufactured alternator from Oreilly`s last week, and everything seemed great for a few days. The trans symptoms have now came back intermittently, and on top of that, the new alternator is now making a slight squealing noise like the belt is slipping a bit. Oreilly`s offered to s…

2001 ram 3500.. edge comp/smarty .. So been having a problem with a stutter under throttle .. 3/4 ish throttle.. I re adjusted the factory made no difference and tps% was reading 8% at idle 77% wide open .. I ordered a timbo which I think is a rip off but anyways.. installed it now it want read below 13% throttle at idle .. I removed it from bell crank to make sure and still 13%.. so I installed it and when I did the adjustment procedure.. I had to move the idle screw in all way to the bottom to get it to move and now my throttle is around 1/2 way.. yes its int the range it called for 580-700 its at .666 and I moved till it voltage came up and then turned back to vol…

So I have been mulling over a way to pull fueling when smoke is being blown out the tailpipe. This is going to take a few revisions, but my basic plan is to put an arduino between the apps and the ecm then read input voltage from the APP's while watching for smoke out the tailpipe, then adjust the APPS voltage to the ECM to reflect less TPS input if smoke is detected. couple of issues, 1. keeping the sensor clean 2. version 1 won't work at night, since there is no natural light 3. placing the sensor at the end of the tailpipe may cause too much of a delay due to the time between stabbing the throttle and the time it t…

hi everyone thanks for taking some time to read this.. I was driving home today on the freeway thinking how nice my truck was running. I got into town left the shop light and the truck stayed in first gear. I let off the throttle and it shifted into second. It held second gear until I let off again. I have a converter lockup switch and the shift relay pulled and jumped. It's been this way for years. Now this happened... Another note I have 2 old optima batteries that are having a hard time starting the truck when it's cold in the morning. I'm open to hear theories ideas ect. Thanks again

I will get intermittent dead pedal when driving above say 60mph with light pedal pressure.. I also get this weird hanging up when revving the truck in neutral it will rev up just fine then hang up at say 2000rpm then come back down..all of the issues show up after some amount of highway driving. Drives fine on short trips, long trips it's constantly cutting out at some point. The hanging up thing worries me that something mechanical is ****** up. How often does the control unit fail vs mechanical on newer units that have been fuel starved at some point? I have a new fass 150 pump motor and so VP44 installed less than 10,000 miles ago. I did b…

First of all a big thanks to everyone. I have been lurking around and this forum has helped me a lot. I bought the truck recently so im not sure what all was done but it was built for compounds and they ran that some and it looks like they about caught the firewall on fire and went to the S300. I was told it has an upgraded pump. I don’t know. It’s green or blue I’m not sure if that helps. I have the tune dialed in for driving around and up to 5th gear. Pretty sure the map is good for what I have as I bumped everything up 2 and it was just straight smoke. I did try a big injector tune I found on there that started at 70, went…

So, I wrecked my truck and decided to replace the engine due to the 53 block being cracked. Problem has been finding anything other than a 53. So, I'm back to the idea of repairing the block. I will not be hotrodding this truck. In fact, I've only put about 3k miles on it since buying it in January 2011 (tow vehicle only). I also know that I should replace the block. I'm looking for no kidding factual information from experienced folks who have either succeeded or failed at repairs, whether it be by welding or Lock N Stitch. Thanks

Had a 99 2wd auto 3500 towed in today that wouldn't start. Hooked up the Snap-on scanner and found an inactive fault P0252 which on the scanner said "Injection pump valve stuck error". Cleared the fault and cranked the engine, it didn't start and again set a P0252 that immediately went inactive as soon as I quit cranking. Talked to the owner who pulled out a Dodge dealer receipt dated 9/8/2017 showing VP44 replaced with a reman at a cost of $3200 and some change. He called the installing dealer and got told his one year warranty expired. So I get to install a brand spanking new , not reman VP44 on it tomorrow. Customer stated he didn't want remanufactured junk…

my sons 99 model died and would not restart, I have traced the problem back to the ECM which is only sending 8.9 volts to the lift pump. I have disconnected the pump and the 50 pin connector on the ECM checked for short circuit and everything is good. I then cleaned and checked the 50 pin connector reassembled and still 8.9 volts coming out of the ECM.I was wondering if anyone has seen this issue before ?

Hello, I have followed this forum for years but just joined today. Because i've got a sad sad story. I hope you guys dont get this code. Looking for some help maybe. Reading over the forums from this site and cumminsforum, i now fear my ecm has died. Truck running fine after 45 min freeway drive. Get off freeway and truck starts to act funny. Gauges going ape ****(including temp gauge going full hot and then back to cold). Pedal goes more and more unresponsive. (dead pedal). Rpm's are uncontrolled. Truck Rpm all over the place. Truck lost its marbles. In limp mode with rms going full retard.(never go full retard) limp it…

Hi all, I have a pakbrake on my 99 with the auto. i know it works and i have used it to ad in warm up on very cold mornings. but i can not seem to get it close while under motion. I am not sure if this is because the lockup is not engaged or is there something else that is keeping the vacuum solenoid from activating. from what i read, its controlled from the circuit that is turned on only when the throttle is at 0. since it will activate while in park at an idle and deactivate when i touch the throttle. I know that part is working, so i am wondering if there is a controller that was connected to the Power train controller that was removed by the PO. (which mak…

My filter canister is leaking, and am going to replace the o-ring in the heater element hoping that will fix it. But, if that's not it, I'm afraid the canister might be cracked at the very top on the aft side. So my question is, how important is the fuel heater? My choices for getting rid of the stock canister are the $360 kit from Rich at Glacier Diesel, which includes the fuel heater and WIF sensor, the non-heated version of that kit for $209, or the non-heated spin-on kit from Glacier for $150. I'm just looking for advice on the need for a fuel heater. I do live in Northern AZ, and it does get rather cold here in the winter. Thanks for the advice in advance. I like th…

So for the past few weeks my fuel pressure has dropped from 19 psi at idle and 17 psi cruising, down to 16 psi at idle and 14 psi cruising. I have checked all my hoses and they look good, put a clamp on one hose that may have had an issue. If I park the truck facing down hill it will start after a week of setting no problem, but if the truck sits level or facing up hill then it takes a long time cranking to start. If I bump the starter and let the fuel pump cycle then it will usually start quickly. I have notice that as the tank gets lower it seems that the fuel pressure drops one or two psi. Other than starting over with a new fuel pump and big line kit, I am not su…

My truck, since new, has had an ongoing fuel gauge issue. Warranty replaced it 3-4 times. Warranty ran out years ago, but occasionally it will freeze at full. The second to last time it got stuck at full, it started registering fuel level after driving on some bumpy, rutty forest roads. It froze again at full just before the new year, so yesterday, I took it off road to try some bumps and sure enough, it started working again. Anyone have any ideas what would cause it to stick and then get jarred loose by rough roads? Thanks.

Been working this issue the last few months between work trips, finally home long enough to actually dive into it. Think I have it narrowed down, but would like bounce ideas off the brain collective. issue is if the truck is left longer than 12hrs you’ll have to cycle the lift pump for a bit to start first hit of the key. If not it’ll crank 5-10 seconds before start. Tried it all, on hills nose up/down and flat ground also. Truck has new fuel lines, new rubber seals at fittings, new injectors and seals, all fittings are tight with no leaks. the only “leak” I’ve noticed on the truck is the water drain on the factory fuel bowl, not much but eno…

Okay! as I was taking my nap today ( Yeah you will get to that point one day ) I was thinking about my post on the fender repair. One of the main things is because the fender is made of such cheap plastic -- I know most things seem to be that way now --- there is something that could be used to give more strength to the inside of a break.GOOP! Yup GOOP. If you haven't heard of it go buy a tube and make some expeirement with it.Example! A freind has a new nissan cube and he wanted to stick a GPS unit to his dash because the item that came with it would not stick to the plastic on his dash.So I mentioned GOOP and we got some. Man that stuff sticks to anything. I use it to a…
