Where does the diesel noise come from? I was thinking lifters, but when coasting there is no noise. I started adding 2 cycle oil and no reduction noted. Could it be the injectors? Pretty noisy clicking when going uphill at low speeds especially in the morning before operating temps reached. 161,800 and don't know if the valves have ever been adjusted? Only owned it for 20k miles.

Over the last couple of weeks I noticed my TC was acting weird. When its engaged over 45mph and I hit the brakes the TC disengages like its supposed to but then immediately reengages as soon as I let off the brake and its a noticeable reengagement. It has never done that before. It would always stay off unless I got back on the gas pedal. I scanned for codes and it had 2 codes. One for APPS low voltage and one for charging system low. So I bought a new Timbo APPS and installed it today. The TC is still acting the same. I checked the alternator and it is charging normally. I did notice that the AC voltage is up though. When I first did the WT mod the AC noise was…

  3. hey guys! Im new here, and new to the cummins world, so please bare with me! I recently picked up a 2002 ram 3500 dually, 6 speed. There are absolutely no modifications the the truck except a brand new raptor frrp 100 gph lift pump, and a brand new thoroughbred diesel injection pump. My problem before was, i started up, warmed up, and left the house, made it about 10 minutes down the road before i started bucking and misfiring, come to find out i had lost all fuel pressure and got the amazing code of p0216. I went ahead and replaced both the lift pump and injection pump, checked voltages on the plugs, checked the numbers on th…

My 4 wd is not engaging. I have tried searching with no luck. Must not be entering the right words. The dash light does not come on. My mind has drawn a complete blank on what to look for! I know it is something simple! Thanks

Man seems like there’s been a lotnno f small weird issues going on with my truck lately. I developed a new issue late last night and this evening. I picked up a new truck last night and the truck ran perfect on the 2 HR drive. Got the trailer loaded and went to start the truck and nothing happened. No chime, no lights, no nothing except for the park brake indicator light wa s lit but extremely dim. Basically if acted like the batteries were completely dead. My only thonly but was hook up jumper cables so I had the fella helping me jump me and it started no problem. I drove the 2 hrs home with no issues. Drove to work this morning with no issues or problems. Went to leave …

I replaced my VP44 pump using the procedure laid out by Mopar1973man. Thanks for that. After just joining the forum, AND after reading about the TC/transmission problems due to faulty alternator and grounding issues, I was wondering if the APPS re-learn procedure should be part of the VP44 replacement procedures? I was having an issue with 47re not wanting to kickdown or maybe no throttle response, is a better way to describe it ,after the transmission shifted into 5th gear. It kinda wants to buck when giving it more throttle and has progressed to slowing down on inclines even with peddle to the floor. This morning I removed the Alt fuse and unplugged the field …

  8. Anyone have good advice for dropping the trans? Ive read the truck needs to be on jack stands to fit the tranny out. Some guys say seperate the transfer case, other guys say not to. My thoughts are keep them together, get the truck up a few inches on jack stands, get a harbor freight transmission jack because I can get it here & now, and go to town. It's the little details like a double click of the converter, not hurting any seals as I slide it on, and/or anything else I may not know about. I'd rather not mess anything up. I do have the big factory service manuals here I will read first, but I thought maybe someone here could share some insight. I've neve…

99 dodge ram 2500 turbo diesel. 5.9 24v. I am curious if this is a head gasket or freeze plug leak. its leaking coolant from back of block. tech reckons plug. That corrosion however looks ominous. Ive been quoted $2600 to repair with removing head etc. the pics are from below. As a complete novice can i drive the truck to another shop for a 2nd estimate.

Ok Gang...I got the ScanGauge II dialed in perfectly and extremely accurate now. I know exactly how to do and make the adjustment so it right near perfect. Fillup Procedure.1. Pick a fuel station that you going to use for a calibration fill point.2. Pick a pump that you going to use for filling. You must return back to the very same pump in the same direction!3. Fill the tank on the lowest sped possible of the pump this reduces foaming of the fuel.4. When the pump shuts off. That's it! Hang up the nozzle! Don't round up to the nearest dollar...5. This you go through the fillup process but leave the setting alone. Don't change the offset percent. But you can change the pri…

Hi all, my passenger side front axle seal was leaking when I bought my truck so I had a local place change it out. I looked into doing it myself but it wasn't cost effective duke to needing a special tool. Anyway about 7 months later it started getting wet there again. Not near as bad as the first time but still wet. I took it back and they changed it again, but couldn't tell me why it failed. They claimed it looked fine. Anyway it still hasn't totally dried out and its been a month or so. It wasn't wet enough to be able to be able to prove its still leaking though. Now I just went on a 600 mile round trip home and before I left I topped off the front diff because I…

So I read this article and would like some input before I spend $40 for a genuine Bosch replacement: https://mopar1973man.com/cummins/articles.html/24-valve-2nd-generation_50/51_engine/59_fuel/bosch-vp44-injection-pump-overflow-valve-r19/ Symptoms At idle in park I maintain a steady ~18 PSI. Driving it can drop to ~11 PSI, but sometimes rises to nearly 20, doesn't seem to be directly load related - sometimes it is low going up a hill like the filters are plugged, but then sometimes the pressure is HIGHER going up hill (gentle rollers). This can be within a couple miles, steady interstate travel. Some times on LONG, flat interstate…

Couple questions about a rear axle swap. I have a line on a 3.54 ratio complete assembly from a '98 2500. My truck ('99 3500 DRW) is fitted with a Dana 80.1) Does a '98 2500 diesel use a Dana 80?2) Are there differences between axles used in SRW and DRW applications?3) Are there any differences between the rear axles on a rear wheel only ABS truck & all wheel ABS truck (mine is the latter)?4) Are U joints the same between the two?5) Any challenges with attaching to the springs?I'm aware of the speedo cal issue. Anything else I'm not considering?Appreciate the help,Joe in St Louis

I was thinking , How is a Remanufactured ECM programed to your Vin number. What equipment is involved? Software? Is it this big mysterious machine, kept in a underground bunker that does it? Do they swing a dead chicken in the air? Throw a pinch of salt over their left shoulder? Or are the vin number programs on CDs and they just plug into the ECM with a USB port and run a CD on a lap top computer Anyone really Know?

I found a source for VP44 connectors, and pigtails. http://americadiesel.us/ $13.20 for the connector shell $2.20 for each pigtail (I ordered 10, to allow for a few mistakes) $57 shipping My total was $92. Even with International Priority FedEx fees, that's still cheaper than other sources. It's a genuine AMP 965734, new. Our stock connector has two holes blocked. This one has all nine holes open, so I'll have to plug two. It did not come with the wire-cover back-plate. I ordered 10 pigtails. I was expecting them to be all one color, but I was happy to see that they randomized the colors for me. They are…

  18. Hey guys, so I've had my edge comp for a little while now and I'm starting to experiment with settings for fuel mileage. I also have 75hp injectors. On 3x5 I got 17.5 over the course of a week. Then I tried 5x2 because of what Mike said in the past about 5x5 being best, but I had to use 5x2 to keep smoke in check. I will be filling up today, but so far it looks like I got right about the same for mileage. Shouldn't I have gotten better? My route and driving style didn't change.... I also read some really old threads on other forums that were talking about unplugging the wire tap to get less fuel and more timing at the higher levels. Is this something I sh…

So I know it's been asked but I can't find the answer to satisfy my question. I got a quadzilla with the trans temp gauge in the port in the passenger side of the trans. It's starting to warm up here finally. 74 degrees and I was in the drive thru waiting on my wife's food. Well the temp kept climbing to about 157. I know I was sitting still and the temp came back down when I got to moving. But I don't remember it being that high last year. Maybe I just can't recall right or I am just being paranoid. However any help or calming words would be awesome! Lol. Bout 20 mins of driving and the temp is starting to show going down the road. Max is about 130-140 ish going down t…

  20. I am looking at both but the Fast Coolers are $125 vs. $239.95 for the Trans-Coolers. Anyone one using these. I would appreciate hearing about how both of these work, your likes and dislikes, and recommendations. Thanks!
