Well i'm back again with more issues, I've been away from the internet recently as the truck has kept me very busy reinstalling the interior and finishing up the turbo/exhaust install. However my truck has been doing very good the last few days with no major issues (still leaking oil somewhere that I have not discovered yet, or possibly PS fluid). On the way home today my truck began to stutter like it was being starved of fuel and then it kick back on, if I get back into the pedal it happens again like it wants to die. No trouble codes and my fuel press read 15+psi under all conditions. I've replaced literally every sensor I can think of at this point (MAP, O…

So the entry road to the Laguna SECA race track has a 16% grade and my trailer weighs just south of 10k pounds. No way to get enough speed to lock up the torque converter. So I'm stuck crawling in 1st. I had to run for a few hundred yards with the transmission temp gauge north of 280 degrees. Ouch. A high idle at the top of the hill brought the temp down quickly. The fluid doesn't look or smell burnt. I think I'm going to have it flushed out anyway. What are the chances that I damaged my freshly rebuilt 48RE? Is it typical to see the trans temp get up around 220 before TC lockup? You know - on a hot day leaving stop lights and such. As soon as the TC locks up,…

So on initial start ups, I've noticed that there tends to be some white smoke. Only one time has it been to the point where I was like man, that's a good amount haha. Other then that, its just a little bit, not even really noticeable in my mirror. Anyways, every time I start there always seems to be a slight hiccup at start (I'm thinking this may have to do with the stock intank lift pump so I'll update once the fass is on) but she idles out smoothly after a second or so. It was around 48* this morning. I have a typical wait to start time, fire her up, and again, have a little white smoke. I then waited to see if my grid heater would kick in with the voltage drop and noth…

Last weekend I replaced the crankshaft seal on my front cover as well as installing a wear sleeve. I followed the procedures that were on the Thoroughbred Diesel YouTube Channel. I used the wear sleeve installation tool and the crank seal installation tool. Used Permatex to seal the front cover after installation. I've started to notice fresh oil on my sway bar and steering components after driving. The bottom front bolts of the oil pan had small amounts of oil on them as well. I can't seem to tell if the leak is coming from the oil pan and that the gasket needs to be replaced or if its coming from somewhere else. The tappet cover looks good from what I can see and I reto…

This may sound like a 1st grader question, but here goes. My 2001 with an HY turbo while pulling in the mountains will make the EGT's climb very qiuckly to the point that I have to back off and downshift to keep them in check. I have the stock exhaust, stock air filter, 47RE, 4.10"s Fass 95, gauges, stock sticks and oversized tires. I have searched this site looking for a remedy for to keep these EGT's in check. What I think I have gleaned is that I could swap the HY to a HX, put a aftermarket larger exhaust (by the way, my exhaust system has what looks like 2 mufflers or a cat and a muffler) maybe a BHAF and bigger injectors to help this situation. I just hate being pas…

Help from the wizards please. I have a coolant leak dripping from the back of the head running down the bell housing. I stuck a small mirror back there and I see a sensor bubbling around the ceramic center. I tried to identify the sensor in the service manual, no joy. This sensor is screwed onto the head, water jacket at the aft end of the head between the head and firewall, thanks!!!

When I'm at about a half tank of fuel my fuel tank lines or Raptor lift pump hoots at me. I hear it more when running uphill or slosh the tank on rough grades. When this sound occurs I can watch my fuel pressure drop suddenly too.I think it is the DS sloshing around and loosing its seal and suck air. Not sure about this but it stops when the tank is full.I was thinking about a billet tank sump so the L/P is somewhat gravity fed. However, DOT has a rule that a tank sump is illegal incase of a fires in a wreck.Anyone know about this? I understand my insurance could decline coverage if they found out.

Do you know of anybody that has switched over to running an electric fan or fans on their CTD yet? I think that will be another project that I will put on my list for spring or summer. It's gotta be better than swinging that big fan around. I used to take the fan right off of my gasser trucks in the winter for a couple of months at a time. They are alot quieter and and have better throttle response without a fan in the winter plus they heat up better, as long as you don't have too much city stop and go driving. I believe the Derale fan company sells fans that have a built in adjustable thermostat for their fans now but I know for sure that Derale sells a kit with a coola…

I plugged in the truck yesterday for the first time. water temperature was at 68 degrees. Does this sound about right for a truck that's been plugged in for a few hours? --- Update to the previous post... Sorry, 48 degrees. Not 68.

Started up my truck a few weeks back and I heard a loud pop and hiss...I thought it was just an issue with fuel as the truck was sitting for awhile. Get back in it a week later and run AC and it's not blowing cold at all so I blew something up. Hopefully just a hose. Any way to pressurize the lines with air to leak check?

Hey all, Getting ready to replace my rear driveshaft U joints. I know the rearmost one is going bad because the caps were a little hard to spin when we had it out to do my clutch. I figured if Im doing one, I might as well do all three. I also have a slight shaking that happens right around 40 mph, and I'm hoping replacing the U joints will take care of it. I helped my dad with U joints before, but it was a while ago, so I just wanted to see if anyone has any tips/tricks to share. I know to mark the driveshaft and keep it in the same orientation. I'm also planning to rent a press from autozone. I know some will say to just use a hammer, but I'm a little worried about…

I can't wait to see how it works.Again, I would have bought the breakfast if time wasn't an issue, and I apolagize for the long wait. :)Thanks again, I appreciate it very much!

Hi guys. I have a couple questions on what is going on with my truck. I noticed I am shifting too early where the RPM's are low and it surges or jerks until the RPM's get higher. It is shifting into 4th gear with OD off at 25mph and it happens also about 45mph where its shifting into high gear and doing the same thing with OD on. Tonight I was doing a couple road tests and I got on it alittle more than usual and when I got home because of how it was acting, I used my scangauge and I had a p0234 code. So I have been doing alittle reading about the wastegate etc which I do not understand and wonder how the code is related to what is going on with my truck. Is it someth…

So I lucked out on a edge juice cts, but it came with the wrong map plug. My truck is the 01 and it has the plug for the 99. From what I've been able to find on the Internet is that there different voltages. One being 1.0 and the other being .5, I was wondering if I could just use a resistor to drop the voltage or if there's more to it than that. I'm assuming the map sensor output to the computer is millivolts?

Finally someone found the DOT laws on gravity fed tanks. Thanks to Pcarlson15 over on CF. http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-non-powertrain/2210985-cutting-up-bed.html#post25696489 GRAVITY FEEDING IS ILLEGAL Here are some laws (regulations) which pertain to gravity feed fuel tanks, and why they are illegal. 1. 49 CFR CH.III (393.65) 6d; Gravity or syphon feeding is prohibited. 2. 49 CFR CH.III (393.67) 7.4.5.; Fuel withdrawal fittings. The fittings through which fuel is withdrawn from a tank must be located above the normal level of fuel in the tank when the tank is full. In other words, the fuel must come from the top of the tank and n…
