  1. When working on removing the blend door motor make sure the temp control is in the centered position or it will loose its indexing. This is a site I found a while ago with a cure for broke blend door. It has good info also. They say that you can open up the motor and recalibrate/reindex it if it has rotated out of spec they will include info on how to do it in the directions of the parts to fix the door. http://www.heatertreater.net/Dodge%20Ram%2095-02.htm

Preparing for 3rd gen brakes come nice weather. Looking for 17” 3rd gen wheels on craigslist now, debating steel vs aluminum. Either way, I’ll get them powder coated black. I like the look of the aluminum ones but steelies are cheap. Any downside to running the steels for now? No super heavy towing, mostly loading my 8’ bed with firewood and an occasional light trailer.

The headlight on the passenger side is dim on both high and low beam. Driver side is fine. Tried several new bulbs and even switched them from side to side to double check. I've cleaned every ground I can find, even looked under the dash, but nothing seems to make a difference. This is a 2 headlight system, not the quad setup. Any thoughts on this? I can't afford to lose anymore hair.

  4. Ah, Dodge Cupholders. There are so many classic designs. Remember the old 1994-7 dual action one designed to either flip a mountain dew onto your right inner thigh and knee or bounce it vertically so it spills all down your radio and fills the CD slot with goo? How about the 98-02 model that looks super cool, fits up into the dash, but squeaks... creaks... and you only put one drink into because it is made of paper mache? I decided that I had enough. I went to Genos and ordered the center console cupholder I've always wanted. Let me break it down for you. This cupholder CHANGED MY LIFE! I am not sure what this says about me, my personal standards, or qu…

This might not be exiting to all but for the past 4+ years a comination of silicone caulk and duct have done one hell of a job holding my dash bezel together and on the dash. Just could never justify the $195 price tag due other things being maintained. I got nice bonus check for job in Maryland and pulled the trigger. My view will be forever changed. Merry belated Christmas Chicken Man.

My tires need replaced before winter makes its head. What's the popular suggestion for tires these days? I'm half pave half off road. It snows a boat load in the winter. I'd like something with a high load rating, but also aggressive enough to keep my traction and give me longevity. While i realize I'm asking for the perfect tire, there has to be something close! I'm thinking about going with oem size tires also. But I've also wondered about different wheels and sizes. So what's everyone say...

I am getting my brake and ABS lights on intermittently. They come on for a while and go of. I am thinking wheel speed sensor but sometimes the lights come on at startup. This would indicate a hard code and usually an ABS unit problem. My Snap-On brick will not read the ABS codes from the ALDL connector. Any thoughts?

It's cold out know, like -40ish cold. Needless to say I have very little cab heat. Coolant temp is at 190 winter front is on truck, both lines on my heater core are hot, fan is pushing lots of air out the vents, deff, or floor heat, I can change the heater control and make the heater colder. Even when my Espar is on I still do not have hot air in the cab. If my heater core was not working properly would I still be able to pass fluid through it?If I can change the heat controls from hot to cold, my blending door should be working? If I have good flow of air out my vents, deff, and floor heat my a/c and heater core should not be plugged? If my heater core is returning hot coo…

I live in Canada. And because I do I got really tired of plugging in my truck during winter in hopes it’ll warm it up enough for easier cold starts. I recommend everyone running of these. Couple years ago I installed a Webasto coolant heater. I’m sure you all know how they work so I won’t explain it. I run an aftermarket bumper so I mounted the Webasto bracket to the old oem support bracket in the passenger side so keep it close to the engine as possible. I plumbed the water lines to engine via the water pump housing lower outlet (where the trans cooler fitting would have been if it was equipped). The pump is located up by the R/H battery and plumb…

  10. I give up I don't know what else to do. I finished my 3 month project about 2 weeks ago... twins, injectors, cross overs, o ringed head, totally swapped the complete wiring harness ecm, pcm, all sensors and VP pump and NV5600 along with the cluster from a wrecked 02 to my 98.5, the problem is when I start it the tach works for 7 seconds then goes dead and I get the code for cam sensor problem, I've tried both sensors and both vp pumps, checked all connections, ran the cluster through the diagnostic test and still no joy. I even tried the cluster from the 98.5, everything on both trucks worked perfectly before I started this project. I think when the tach isn't working it i…

I had to rebuild the hydro-boost on my rig for a leaking seal. Found a YouTube page with very good instructions for the repair. They did recommend replacing the brake light switch also as it was a one time use only item. If you didn't replace it your brake lights would stay on all the time. Seems like it loses it's setting once the brake peddle is disengaged. Got a new switch and the install was fairly simple. Took the old unit apart to see if I could "reset" it. I was expecting a small circuit board of some kind but it was totally mechanical. Not sure I'm seeing what could be out of whack just by removing and replacing the switch on to the same peddle & rig. It'…

What are the stock coil springs rated for/design load...on a 4x4? Does quad cab vs single cab matter? I was just looking at stock height coils and can only seem to find ones for single cab or shorter wheel base.

  14. Here are all of the components of the 2nd Gen A/C system, and what they all do. First is the compressor. The refrigerant is compressed making it even hotter, it becomes a high pressure high temperature vapor. http://www.mopar1973man.com//isx97/Truck%20Stuff/Ryan's%20Dodge/Under%20Hood/AC/IMG_1471.JPG After turning into a high pressure high temperature vapor, the refrigerant goes through the condenser. The condenser has ambient air running through it which cools off the superheated refrigerant, so much so that the refrigerant turns back into a liquid. Nevertheless, the refrigerant is still pretty hot and remains at high pressure. http://www.mopar…

I know this has been beat to death over the years but I have a question. I never considered XRF because I thought they were high priced but checking I see they are cheaper than NAPA and OEM Spicer. Are they any good?

  17. So I pretty much replaced the entire A/C system and when I put the new compressor in I put around 7..5 ounces of PAG 100 in. My questition is should I have put oil in each new component I put in or just put the proper amount in the compressor and roll on?

Does anyone know what size vacuum line it is that runs across the back of the valve cover to the elbow that goes into the firewall. I broke mine in the process of adjusting valves and removing the heater hoses from the heater core. Looking to replace it with a rubber hose possibly. Need to know what size to use to accomplish that. Thanks -

Alright guys after I got some time to do some investigating my inner and outer tie rods are done for. Now is it worth it to upgrade to the t style steering or should I just got back factory. I don't want to drill the holes any bigger I want to just drop it in and go. Drives good other than a little sloppy steering. Best options cost efficient mind you!

  20. Does anyone have any info about the pins on a 1998.5 OBD port and where the wires go. I.E. Where the chassis and signal ground go. Im trying to diagnose a faulty smarty cable or faulty obd/truck wiring. I have a 2002 ecu and a rebuilt 1998.5 ECU. I purchased a flash file from smarty to flash the 2002 to my 1998.5. IThe smarty would connect to the ECU while it was connected to the 2002 donor truck. IT wont on my truck. It wont connect to the 1998.5 or 2002 ecu while on my truck. I can hook my scan tool up to my truck and it will connect to both and read codes on both? SOOOOO I think something might be wrong with my obd port.
