Here is the one issue I have since doing my gear swap. I also replaced my WIF drain on the filter canister before this started. Intermittently but frequently upon braking the pedal will get hard and my brakes will do just what they do When abs kicks in if you try to lock up your brakes on ice. What could have caused this?

  2. Started by 98whitelightnin,

This 98 I just picked up is missing the piece that I believe tightens the rear brakes when there is a trailer in tow. I think it’s a rod but I’m not sure. It will have a ball end on either end of it. Anybody know what its called?

  3. Hi All, I found a column from a 67,000 mile Steering Column on Criagslist, while looking for a Driver seat, tailgate, Bumpers... Parting out. So I found a column out of 98-01 Truck Gas 5.9 . So I assume that I have to swap the ignition switch and move the Overdrive off button over. Anything else I should know going into this? I have replaced the Clock spring with an OEM in my truck and it still makes noises while turning, at 320,000 nothing surprises me. I've read where there is a Bearing replacement at the bottom of the column, with a bushing, so I'll eyeball that prior to replacement. How robust is the intermediate shaft? No complaints I've added a Steering …

I know this has been discussed in the past, but I wanted a refreshment on this subject. I need to bring some sheet rock home and wondering where the limit is. From what I read d80 supposed to handle something like 11,000lb so hopefully I don't have to worry about axle housing or bearings failing. Another factor is springs, which I have air bags to help and tires. I would say I can move around 4,000lb driving in town taking it easy. I've had right at 4,000lb of paving blocks in her before and did just fine. The issue now is my truck is a short box and I'm getting 12 feet long sheets of drywall so the weight will shift more back. I made a support bracket that slides in rec…

  5. I'm just curious if you guys have any issues with your speedometer when you compare it to GPS speed. I own my truck since 1999 and the speedometer was always off by about 5 miles when traveling at 70 it's actually 75. I've been looking into the Chrysler shop manual and this stuff doesn't give me the correct tire revolution per mile, WTF? Chrysler Shop Manual section 22. TIRES/WHEELS 22. BR/BE TIRES/WHEELS 22 - 9. SPECIFICATIONS TIRE SIZE SUPPLIER REVOLUTIONS PER MILE …

  6. Started by Towrigdually,

Ive replaced the rear sensor with a new from Napa and rock auto. Still no change. I can clear the codes and the lights go out momentarily then come right back on. The fuses for the abs system are good also, as are the underhood connections, along with the connection at the rear axle the pigtail is in good shape. the 74 code will come and go if I just sit with the truck running and scanner hooked up. Has anyone else had these codes with similar issues?

  7. Started by SavageTusk,

I put in a seatbelt that goes in the seat itself and does not have the electrical connections on the recoil mechanism. Instead this one relays on the buckle holder to close the circuit(red and black wires coming out. Anyway, I always wear my seatbelt but since the truck thinks the circuit is open, I have a seatbelt light on the dash. After reviewing the wiring diagram, it looks like I can just connect the orange/red to the black/green to bypass the in seat module. Or connect the orange/black to the new red and the black to the black/green. Any thoughts on this?

Hi drove my 1999 3500 24v truck to work the other day and parked came back to it in the evening and whent to start it, first thing i noticed was no wts light. It turned over but fail to start and no fuel pump and no bus showing in odometer. Popped the hood and could smell burnt wires. The joint connection 2 in the pdc burned up the local dodge dealer told me that usually the pdc gives out 90% of the time the pdc shorts out its self and causes this but I'm not sure about that. I got a good used one from a local parts truck my plan is to clean all the grounds and check for shorts then I will hook the batteries back up and pull what codes i can. Just wondering what else i sho…

My battery cable ends are in bad shape, so I picked up some new ends and car lugs. Due to my kid taking a short nap today, I only got one done, along with cleaning a couple of grounds. These two pictures are obviously not a direct Before and After. I found out I didn't have a new 4 gauge lug, so did the ground wire first. Whoops. Oh, and the terminals did come with protective caps, it is now installed.

Does anyone have one of these trucks that can help me out with some measurements and answer some questions? im trying to find out what the rear frame and rear axle differences are with my 3500 PU to see if I can use a set of bags I can get ahold of. (I'd test but they are out of state) I know the axle and frame is narrower than mine but is the frame C-channel different? Are the axles just narrower versions of the stock dually axles with the same size axle housing tubing?

  13. All of the driver side switches work e.g. locks, passenger, driver auto down/manual down. however when you select drivers side window up... it goes up about halfway and stops... you have to wait for a good amount of time approx. 15-30 mins it will go up some more then stop and you have to do that process until it all the way up.... any ideas?

  14. 2002 3500 Dually. 5.9 Cummins. Bone stock. 91K. Works weekends and vacations pulling 37' Montana 5er. First post. Been reading and learning. I really appreciate the position that these trucks were engineered and built to run and be maintained as stock and that anytime "we" start doing deletes, adds and creative wiring other issues are going to arise and are only a bandaid to fixing the real issue. Anyway, I was having the torque converter issue at 55mph so decided to do an alternator rebuild and eliminate any AC leakage. Rebuild went fine, installed the rebuilt unit and the alternator would not work, not quite 11.5v at the connection. Gauge would show low voltage, the…

As you guys know I’m about to dive into a gear swap. I have been planning to swap the entire axles in but at this point for sake of time and being I have professional mechanics by my side I’m going to do just the internals. My question is that I’m not 100% sure that the axles I got are 3:54 ratio. They came out of a 98.5 5 speed. Did they ever put 4:10s in a 5 speed? Also I’m concerned that the 3:54s are not LS differentials and is they’re a way to convert it to LSD without need for a 600$ locker? Can you just buy a used 3:54 carrier?

I'll make a quick post on this. If you have truck that got the OEM rear sway bar end links still I highly suggest replacing them very soon. I'm learning just because something can last that long doesn't mean its a good idea to leave in that long. I ended up pulling the entire rear sway bar to just replace the end links. I had to stick each end in my table vise and heat them with MAP gas torch nice and hot and beat them out with a 6-pound hammer. You'll find Dodge really screwed up and has the bolt inserted from the wrong direction on the driver side. The fuel tank is in the way. So you end up pulling the mounting bracket which has 2 nuts. Mine was so bad the passenger sid…

Replacing rear sway links. On the drivers side do I need to move the fuel tank out of the way or did someone put this bolt in backward and I should put it back in the other way upon re installation?

So glad i found this wealth of information, I am already finding it useful. My experience with Mopar is via a 96 Cherokee with a HO and ax15, its reliability is what led me to buy my... 2002 Ram 2500 5.9 HO 6 speed. I originally noticed a slight hiccup in 5th-6th gear, but nothing substantial as i don't run it hard. On Christmas eve while driving home i noticed the hiccup tried to gain speed and the issues started. Drive home was very rough and the pedal was in and out. Codes given were P0122 & P0236. I changed the Fuel and water filters. I also changed the APPS sensor. The codes still exist. I f…

Does anybody else have a problem keeping their main doors closed on their truck while driving? When ever I hit a few bumpy patches of road or hop on the freeway my door doesn’t seem to latch all the way and wiggles creating a very noisy and annoying sound in the cab. Especially when driving long distances when I put my hand o the door I can feel it shaking back and forth I’ve replaced weather stripping on both sides of the truck and they still do it. Anybody else have this issue or an idea how to fix it?

Good morning folks. Hope y’all had a great Christmas! Amazing how another year has slipped by. Does anyone here have husky liner floor mats? I have tried to find pics of them inside a second gen but can’t and i would like to see how they fit and hear some reviews.
