2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

Wondering if anyone has gone through this issue before or any suspension gurus out there? I've been in the process of getting this front end tightened up and pretty much have it were I want, now without all the wandering and whatnot I'm noticing out on the highway while under throttle it's pulling to the left. Pretty much new front end other than control arm bushings & ball joints which have no apparent need for replacement, although they could be original as far as I know. I've replaced rear spring shackle bushings awhile back because of a uneasy fishtail feeling I got last summer while towing and noticed they were pretty worn/cracked. I'm still not co…

Hi guys new here, mopar man I miss seeing you on CF! Im hoping to get a question answered that isn’t getting much traction on CF. I have a 98.5 24v a friend begged me to take off his hands as it’s pretty modified and a lot of poor work done to it. It’s ppumped, has an external voltage regulator wired up and every light on the truck inside and out quickly pulses, WTS light doesn’t come on, gauge cluster works intermittently, fass is wired to an always hot toggle switch, etc... Im swapping out the entire dash for one pulled out of a 99 1500 and I’m hoping to use the 99+ headlight/fog light switch and move the airbag selector up to the 99+ spot. …

Well I ran out of beer cans to keep up with this rust bucket so I believe it's time to address it before the whole thing rots away. Got some slip on rockers and cab corners on the way from eBay $210 shipped for both sides. I wanted to get all 3 back, inner, outer but for that kinda money I can almost buy a rust free cab and maybe I still will one day, buy a whole truck to rob parts off like @That Guy just did. Another option I had was to have a local metal shop bend me some rockers out of ss but when I shoed him what I was doing he said he tried it before for others with bad results and lots of wasted time, so my dreams and hopes went down poop tube when he told me that. …

Originally I had a power steering fluid leak, found a line I thought was leaking, replaced, still leaked, replaced other line just to makes sure, ended up finally seeing Hydroboost leaking (didn't have a brake problem) Replaced Hydroboost, then intermittently pedal would almost go to floor, so got another Reman Hydroboost, now it's locked my brakes up, unless I'm doing something wrong it's going to be #3 reman going on this am.

On the dash you can place the a/c on max and it recirculates the air in the cab to continuously cool the same air making the cab cooler in the summer heat. Is there a recirc setting that does the same for heat in the winter? Or do we have to set it on max a/c setting which blows the hot air from the main vents? Thought it might be useful on the really cold days.

Before I call Quadzilla for support, I thought I'd ask for suggestions here. I recently noticed that my Quadzilla high idle won't start anymore. I have checked several times that it is on and the elapsed time is set right now to 60 seconds. I have tried other tunes and it doesn't work with any of them. I have deleted and reloaded tunes, that didn't help. I checked that my Vehicle Selection is correct, V2 Dodge 98-2002 version 2.7, NOT the 4k. This summer a rodent chewed a little hole in my iQuad box. I have since used a VERY small piece of that rubberized/foil backed tape to seal the hole. I have not had to jumpstart the truck. The only time a battery ch…

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 I have a brown substance coming out of the floor vent not to mention when I turn the heat on I smell antifreeze and my window steams / obviously I need a heater core. My next question is how difficult of task I have done heater core before on an S10 as far as brands should I stick with Mopar or go with something else

  8. Started by Doubletrouble,

This kinda stated in a different thread but I thought I would post what I've done here instead of hijacking. There was a discussion about rust proofing and weather protection including the use of undercoating, fluid film and the old fashioned used oil concoction to combat rust and corrosion. Since I've been off work for a bit due to a knee problem I have been getting antsy and needed to get outside and tinker with something so I decided to try the used oil truck that was mentioned by @Mopar1973Man in another thread. I have plenty of used motor oil here on the farm (approx 35 gallons of it) so I mixed some with diesel to thin it out enough to be sprayed throu…

  9. So Right now I have tow 2nd gens. Both 4x4 5 speeds. my 99 has always had an issue with power steering at idle mostly. I replaced the pump with a Borgeson, all new power steering lines with a filter, red head gear box, synthetic fluid and rebuilt the vacuum pump while everything was out. I still have barely any power steering at idle. I even modified the Saginaw pump by drilling a larger hole. my other truck with an all original power steering pump, lines etc has had 37s (back to stock now) and it could turn those tires without an issue even at idle. I am beginning to think the truck with the issues has a hydro boost blockage of some sort.…

Can someone please tell me what the ID size is on the nipple on the head where the heater hose inlet is connected to. Also, is this a restrictor to slow the pressure to heater core.

  11. Started by leety,

Hi All, I changed the resistors in my HVAC system and solved the fan speed issue. I decided to change the fan/motor as well and now there is no air coming out of the dash or floor vents only out of the defrost vents by the windshield. Any ideas are welcome.

Noticed a big puddle under my truck this morning. I know it’s coolant because it was low and on my way to pickup hay the cab was filling with steam. And the carpet is wet on the passenger side. I’m assuming heater core but heard that it leaks in the cab not out. I took a video of somewhere that seems to be leaking but maybe it’s just dripping down from there? Also looks like maybe a something attached there and fell off? I’m not too sure, any help is appreciated. I already bought a new heater core because I figured I should replace it because I’ve done everything else in the coolant system, heat and A/C. FullSizeRender.mov

Manual Air Recirculation Control The HVAC control in a 1999-2002 2ed generation Ram only has the ability to recirculate air when either the controller is in the OFF or MAX A/C. In all other positions outside air is entering the cab interior. This modification will give you the ability to either have the air recirculation controlled by the factory HVAC controller or have the system in recirculation in any position. How it works The black hose supplies the vacuum to the HVAC system. The green hose supplies vacuum from the HVAC controller to the recirculation actuator. When the mode knob is in the OFF or MAX A/C positions vacuum is applied to the …

I cannot locate in the FSM what the stock ride height should be, and by that I mean from frame to axle as that won't change with tire size. Can someone out there measure for me, or know what it's supposed to be? The previous owner had a snow plow on this truck, had 36k pound tags, and clearly used the gooseneck a LOT. I have tight suspension and recently had an alignment done, but the truck still drives weird. My frame to axle dimensions are different from passenger to driver's side. Considering a new set of front springs, but open to suggestions. I have not checked the rubber isolator in the last 50k miles, but was there when I changed the shocks - obviously …

My new set of pads and rotors are being particularly recalcitrant, spent nearly 2 hours trying to bleed and still not quite right. I did rebuild the calipers with new seals and pistons and it was fairly clean inside. A touch of grease and the new stuff was in with no issues and no leaks. I had never rebuilt calipers before, is that maybe at fault? Went through a big bottle of brake fluid. Did a gravity bleed, had someone help me power bleed (both using a version of Mopar1973Mans pickle jar), tried bedding the new pads and rotors. Went several more rounds after the new fluid hit and bubbles were gone. Still can push the pedal to the floor without too much fuss…

Had a couple frosty mornings out here the past 2 days and noticed the wipers started real slow. Today I leave in a drizzle and no wipers at all. So I figure the wiper motor is shot. Have open it up and make sure the linkage is not bound up and if not it is new wiper motor time. Anything else I should look at that anyone knows?

So recently my dad decided he wanted an LED light strip on his dodge 1500 so he bought 2 of them. One for him and one for me for installing his. I got them both installed and have to say I like them. I am always concerned about other drivers not seeing me and rear ending me (it's happened before) so what the heck right. The LED strips he bought are 60" and have 3 rows of lights, red for tails, yellow sequential for turns and white for reverse lights. They're pretty bright in all stages. I'll attach a few pics to show you. The first one is the tails but in daylight, they're much brighter at night. The second is the reverse lights, very bright plus t…

  19. Not sure if this is where this should be but has anyone managed to get the light on the mirror to work as a marker light as well as a blinker? :Seen it done on 4th gens with a kit but can’t get it to work on my 2nd gen. Have gotten my blinkers to blink opposite of each other (when ones off the other is on) but that is as close as I’ve been able to get. I’ve added a picture to show mirror and light that I’m talking about. This is also my first post so if there’s somewhere else this should be or if anything else is wrong, that info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  20. Ok, here is my issue, I recently wrecked my 2002 Ram 2500 H.O. 6 speed and totaled it out. It only has 97,000 miles so I purchased a 1999 3500 with Cummins and an auto tranny to put my motor and transmission in. I have completed the engine and transmission swap and all is well....almost. The cruise will no longer work, the light won’t even come on in the dash. It worked on both trucks before the swap. Here’s another known problem, the 1999 truck had the vacuum actuator under the driver’s side battery for the cc and the 2002 cruise control is all electronic controlled. I used the pcm and ecm from the 2002 so I didn’t hook the vacuum actuator up as the 2002 di…
