Well I got a good deal on a used almost new smarty - so I bought it to see for 1+ month - as I will get (most) my money back.Interesting stuff. I have it stacked with my powerpuck and using level 8. Its pretty aggressive down low with the torque management and the fueling. Overall I would say I like it better than my EDGE or QUAD for responsiveness and DD - just not for the features (no display, no adjustment on the fly).I cant imagine what it would be like with a fueling box like TST. .Any1 wanna lend me one for a month !!! 2. I had my 2001 3500 with Edge comp box an Smarty S03 stack. Always had smarty on lvl9 an comp box on 5x5. Loved it! Truck loved it! Had to remove vp44 to do the tappet cover gasket an damaged the vp44 case installing it back in. Took the pump in to get it fixed an figured to get it rebuilt while its out. An now its tripped some timming code an killd my new vp44 on same settings i had for years before on old pump. Any ideas why this combo would do this to new/rebuilt vp44. The shop that rebuilt it fixed the pump again under warranty an had no answers for me why it would do that. Just scared to do that setup again an have to go thru all that work again pulling pump.

Hey does anyone know if you can still rent a Smarty to turn on high idle. I finally have the money to but Mike's mpg fooler but need to enable high idle first.

So I had to change out my ECM and forgot to reset my smarty back to "stock" settings before I pulled out the original ECM and sent it off. Now when I try to load Smarty settings it says "New ECM" and won't download anything. How do you "reset" this thing to work again? Bob Wagner is the rep. here in the USA for Smarty but I have no contact information.

Well I finally got my Smarty S03 and installed the SW:5 software and HOLY **** the throttle response and bottom end power jumped up significantly!!! Huge difference and still drives very easy if you are putting around. I do have a couple questions for anyone that are familiar with these programmers. 1. I noticed that there is lots of smoke if you stab the throttle before the turbo lights off. Is this part of the programming and is there a way tor reduce this some? I realize that it's wasted fuel and I don't need to smoke an intersection just to I can get up to speed quickly. 2. I figured with about 60hp increase on the top end of the power curve it would raise …

Rolling through Craig's list see a s03 for 250. It's an older add he says he still has it. I'm like ****. I ask if I can take the programmer for a spin. Get it loaded on 9 and he rides with me. Get out on street and stand on it , I'm like **** I wasnt expecting that. Hes like what turbo is that it whistles he thought it was something cooler then a stock hy35. Pretty much roll around the block. Pay him and we go on our merry way. 7x09 injectors + s03 = fun

I know the smarty and edge stock aren't optimal for top end power but I love the low end grunt the smarty adds. I was wondering if any one was running anything close and what would be good for my set up. I don't think I can adjust the timing since the edge does that. Also I know i can only run the fuel only tunes. I think the TM only boosts throttle sensitivity on my year. I understand what duration does but I don't know if the Comp does that. I am currently running on SW5 and am seeing a little over 18mpg with the comp on 5x5. I'm only one week on my new set up.

  8. Started by Greenlee,

I'm driving a 24 valve with a Blue Chip Special X VP44 that has the timing slightly advanced to give it 22 additional HP. I also have a set of 75 HP injectors from Dynamite Diesel. They had to be readjusted to reduce smoke. I would like to use them but I need a way to control the smoke or fuel. I see a lot of members are using programmers or tuners for this reason. I'm not trying make a hot rod out of it just looking for a little more performance especially at lower speeds. With the timing advanced I have been told I can't use a tuner that has the capability to advance timing any more than it already is. I don't think with the 75 HP injectors I am going overboard and need…

I had to smog my truck on Saturday and the tech told me I passed, but barely. then he told me to check my exhaust myself next year. I asked him how should I do this? he said "snap the gas and check the tail pipe for smoke". As I was trying not to laugh, I asked the tech - what if it smokes what should I do? He said you should definitely take it to the dealership. Funny thing, my truck is completely stock, and brought it to him hot and it doesn't smoke. I think he was concerned over my mileage. So to prepare for this next time around, does anyone have a good cat from a 2nd gen 24v they want to sell? oh, and don't forget to snap your gas!

  12. Ok so as the title say's after my first test run with my new camper. Which i have posted about in another thread in the trailer & RV section. Over all the truck did good had plenty of power to hold 5th gear on flat ground with enough power in reserve to speed up for a long hill. But on those 6% hill's sent me from 5th at 55 mph and 22psi @900 d EGT's to at the top of the hill 3rd at 38-40 mph and 31 psi at 1000-1100 d EGT's. I really couldn't give it more pedal which i had a whole lot of but the egt would jump in a heart beat to yellow but i never got over 1100. So while i was down at the lake i read my Diesel Power mag and would like to hear some of ya'lls thought's …

I know little to nothing about wiring...Finally replacing my oem battery cables, need to attach new cable to existing ground on the passenger side with the grey plugs. I want to crimp and solder the connection, I already have rosin core solder wire, do I need to dip the ends in rosin flux to prevent corrosion? Or is the rosin core wire enough? I can’t seem to find rosin flux anywhere.

  15. It's been my observation that since I put my lift pump on an ECM-triggered relay that the pump (none of three tried) doesn't do its normal startup routine. I hypothesize it's because the pulse-width-modulation signal from the ECM isn't reliably making my normal relay close. In a semi-unrelated internet search this popped up. It's a solid-state relay that fits the normal mechanical relay base. Hella part number: H41773001 http://hellahd.com/index.php/default/electrics/relays/mini-iso-relays/12v-spst/h41773001-931773987/ https://www.lingenfelter.com/PDFdownloads/HELLA41773001.pdf Thoughts? I expect most will be 'that's a solution to a problem that doesn't…

  16. The new owner sent me these today of the nv4500. It was a built nv4500. A little sad that this chapter is finished. Deep down I know that was / is one of easily 10 fastest manual diesels ( if not better) in the country if you could launch it. If not it would be damn respectable. It’s back half was utterly ridiculous. Funny thing is the neighbor begged me to go to B.I.R and let him run it. I know he could launch it no problems. Incredible wheelman. My wallet kept reeling me in with you stick your 50mph roll ons. Oh well. It will now be getting a full billet meal deal auto. Really cool and better from stop menace .…

  18. Propane Injection. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Propane is a three-carbon alkane, normally a gas, but compressible to a transportable liquid. It is derived from other petroleum products during oil or natural gas processing. It is commonly used as a fuel for engines, oxy-gas torches, barbecues, portable stoves and residential central heating. A mixture of propane and butane, used mainly as vehicle fuel, is commonly known as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG or LP gas). It may also contain small amounts of propylene and/or butylene. An odorant such as ethanethiol or thiophene is added so that people can easily smell the gas in case of a leak. Energy cont…

So I just got done replacing my vp44, after I was getting (hard start or so I thought I'm 50/50 with this I don't know if it was my starter and cables or actually a hard hot start) I got the new one in, checked all connections, made sure the key way is in the groove, and started putting everything back together. Got it started once to have the starter go out the next startup.... Put new starter in and all new cables, I finally get to test drive it. ( I also have a wire tap) so I went for a test run..... And to me it doesn't feel like it had the spunk like my old pump did. ( if that makes any sense) I'm 100% sure of this because I lost about 7 psi of boost.( with old I w…
