  1. Exhaust brakes... Oh how wonderful they are. I was warned long time ago back at about 15k miles. Friends were telling me upgrade and get the exhaust brake. I did. Wow! First brake job at 180k miles. Braking force is good. It can and will get the tires hopping if your coming down in gear to fast. Remember I'm a manual with a dual disc clutch. If you need a rush warm up leave the exhaust brake on it warms up faster. I typically drive like the brake pedal doesn't exist. I do majority of my stopping on the exhaust brake.
  2. Not a prob. The collar has to be loose n and removed before the tank comes down. The secret is if you do that the the sender stands up out of the tank as you lower the tank now you have good access to the fuel lines. The little squeeze tabs are usually in bad positions. This way the sender stands up and you have good access to remove the two fuel line. The sender had a plug in the top (inside). This is a bit tough to get out but not impossible. Then you disassemble the plug pull the pins out and replace the sender and reverse this.
  3. @Doubletrouble... It will come like it or not... Ohio... Yeah your going to get some of this.
  4. To arm the high idle on the Cummins ECM. For the high idle to come on you must meet those two requirements. Typically takes about 2 minutes tops to arm the high idle. Coolant temperature MUST be below 140*F at startup. IAT temperature must be below 26*F or 13*F with grid heater operating. Now for Cancelling... Speed greater than 0 MPH. TPS greater than 0% throttle. Coolant over 170*F. Brake pedal pressed. Auto Trans not in park or neutral. So it will never automatically arm on extended idle or while the engine is fully warmed. Lets say I've only seen the high idle arm once this entire winter and only 6 cylinder mode.
  5. I would just jump the wires down under the seat. The two wire jump together turns off the light. The only solution is to get a new driver side seat belt latch to replace the wore out one.Either way it will shut the light off. Being California might do inspection on that light for function I would suggest the replacement route.
  6. Nope. Like I said its just a 5 pin plug. It's all CANBus controlled out to the TIPM. Not like the older 2nd gen. You can see that older generation is all switches. Where the 3rd Gen is all CANBus controlled.
  7. Needless to say I didn't get a chance at any photos. I got to McCall yesterday and it was snowing hard it dropped over 13 inches in McCall. My buddy Sean hooked me up with a roof clearing job for the day. Took use a bit over 3 hours to get the roof shoveled off and it was roughly 3 foot of snow on the roof. Not bad but not fun either and hard work. On the way home the Goose Creek grade was closed twice! Swift truck tried making the grade without chaining up ad then another box truck tried to make it too and both slide put in corners. By the time we made it back to New Meadows they closed the highway again for a second time. People are truly stupid when it comes to winter driving. As for down here at home its not bad for snow maybe a one or two inches total. 8. Hence why I end up with the vehicles with massive front end damage, steering box is trashed and possibly a melted piston. More common than you think, because of this exact thinking. Instead of doing it right people want quick fix to make there truck look cool but then skip all the stuff to make it right. Proper gear ratio, proper caster adjustment, thrust angle adjustment, etc. Wonder why steering sucks on these trucks or got overheating issues or high EGT's...
  9. Heck... 427k miles and right behind @dripley I'm still running the factory tappet cover. 99% of the time the gasket is hardened and cracked or broke out a small chunk. I just install a new gasket (rubber ring) on the stock cover. DO NOT use any sealant. This is where most go to screw up and add a ton of silicone or sealant of some sort making the matter worse. Changed mine back at 350k miles for the first time.
  10. Just remember to pull all the taillight wiring. The ground strap on the front passenger side of the bed. Again thing bolted or screwed to the bed. Drain the fuel tank and dropping is faster. I can pull a fuel tank in under one hour and change the sender and install again. Just all I do is drain the tank. Now screwdriver and a hammer punch the collar loose. Then on screw the collar. Now the filler neck just remove the hose clamp and pull it loose. 2 nuts on the bands and boom she is down. Carefully remove the sender (unhook the lines and wiring). Just reverse this process and it done. Matter of fact I'll most likely be doing one later this spring.
  11. No matter what it going to get worse. Already hearing news of Biden going to force electric vehicles and shut down the petroleum industry as his goal. Personally I don't think half the politicians have left there house enough to really see how the world ticks. Just thinking that the world will flip over to electric vehicles instantly is totally impossible. I'd love to see how electric logging truck work out. For myself my industry for mechanic here in the valley has kept me busy. I would not say it a super income but keeping me busy. When you factor in just doing a VP44 job or any job with anything regarding mail makes the job super slow. Like one customer Like George's truck he had his VP44 fail (P1689 & P0216) and the FASS wasn't pumping at the time. Still in all just to remove the pumps and ship them back tested and ship back to me took an full month. Since I rely on the local part stores like NAPA to have the parts I need for a fair price and in stock. Nope. Most of the time they don't have what I'm looking for. Then if they do have to ship it it could be a day to week to get parts. The bad part is the US Dollar is so weak right now you can see the price of gold is $1,851.00 as of Jan. 28 2021. You need $1,851.00 just for one ounce of gold. Just look at diesel fuel its starting to go up again. US dollar is weakening so you need more US dollars to buy oil, fuel, food, etc. Just to give a feel... Now look back at the 1930 during the depression. The dollar fell flat there to the price of gold took off. Then 1970's the market turned around and the electronics age really started booming. Then the price of golf fell again in 2001. Now we are back up to near record highs of gold prices again. When gold heads back down the economy is doing better again. When the economy goes bad then the price of gold will rise more it rises the worse the value of the US dollar. Look as the last little drop was during Trump's time and he was making changes to improve the economy. Now Biden is office the price of gold took off higher again so the economy is going bad once again and getting worse.
  12. I got hired to shovel snow off a roof in McCall this morning more to come.
  13. Already replaced the multifunction switch too. It's only a 5 wire connection again all the information is digital or voltage based like our cruise control. This is all ran on the CANBus not a switch like our trucks. The only thing that translates the signal is the TIPM and I swapped with my 2006 Dodge and got the same results as listed above.
  14. Take your mouse on hover over the dotted underlined words and the web software will display the meaning of CAD. I've added a ton load of acronyms to the websites database just hover over over the dotted underlined words with your mouse pointer.
  15. I get to do one of these too. The last 2002 I just got done installing a VP44 back into has the fuel gauge stuck at 5/8 of a tank but the tank was EMPTY. The owner ran it out of fuel and burned up the VP44.
  16. Sorry dude it just the way it is...I've done this road with a PCM that burned up on my truck.
  17. I don't mind poking the bear once in awhile but yeah the amount of truck I work on where the owner slaps on a set of 35 to 37 inch tires without supporting mods and support axle gearing it absolutely sickening. Day after day I try fixing these truck because they just wanna look cool. I'm the one replacing steering boxes, tie rod ends, track bars. Always for a customer rarely and I mean rarely for myself. Hmmm... Maybe I figure something out. Big tires suxs... 427k miles and still going...
  18. Get this right... I'm a big advocate of PROPER GEARING. I can careless about how big you want tires but when people just throw tires on and their final ratio is ruined (less than 3.40) and they don't like the answers to fixing the improper gear ratio. Either change the axle gears or ditch the tires. Both are expensive. Everyone assumes you can just swap bigger on without any support mods either. Doesn't work that way... Currently I've this 2005 Dodge with a blown steering box from 35 inch tires and no supporting mods either... People wonder why steering and suspension damage comes so quickly. Steering box on its way to @Blue-Top Steering being rebuilt. Might take a 2 or 3 weeks to turn around. Oh yeah I'm busy... 2002 Dodge Blue needed a new VP44 and FASS pump warranty since both failed in less than 100 miles. There is a 1985 Chevy on the other side of the 05 Dodge needs a MAP sensor which has been a treasure hunt. I've got 2006 Duramax in the shop now and needs a trans line replaced. Even got a 2003 VW Passat Turbo out there too with bad oxygen sensor and cam sensor wiring issue. Busy... Yup very Busy...
  19. Ahem... (Cough cough!) not all people are this way. Come up here everyone is respectful of others. It seem big cities and dense populations are this way. I see this in Lewiston and Boise both. Again come out to the little towns like Riggins, ID different story. I'll agree on this. All I say is read the bible and the Good Lord's laws are clearly stated. That is far as I'll go. Absolutely true. I'm part of that group that can see the division and misinformation for YEARS! Up here its the Undocumented. They take full advantage of the system and benefits. I've seen plenty of this where they get free hand out medically and no paper work. I've seen this twice during my cancer treatments and seeing undocumented people jumping past paperwork and payment. But hey I get ran through the hoops and loops just get medical treatment and paying through the nose for it while undocumented people get it all for free. Thanks DemocRATS!
  20. Just shows how low pop pressure affects performance. Just because it still runs doesn't mean it running well.
