  1. I guess it's off. I just want to be sure you not judging against someones oversized pan. Lot of people add a deep trans pan to the truck. So it rather rare to find them still will a stock pan.
  2. No. Makes the truck hydroplane more. The only time wide tire is a good idea is offroad in mud. Now a wide tire will float on top of the mud spreading the axle weight across your "wide snowshoes" and allowing you to travel without sinking. The rest of the time narrow tire provide better traction than wide tire because even in a panic stop a wide tire will break free and skid sooner because again your weight is spread out over more cubic inches. Where a narrow tire will dig in and bite and rarely slide because the amount of weight per square inch is much greater. Hence why on the 2002 Dodge the front axle is 4,440 pounds and the rear is 2,860 pounds. This means a single front tire is holding 2,220 pounds. now measure the patch of the tire and square inch and calculate the pound per square inches for the downward force. This is why with the 245's I'm not losing a bunch to width. This is why I opted for the 215's on the 1996 Dodge its even lighter truck and only 5,500 pounds roughly. So the weight on each tire is even lower this means I need even narrower tires to gain better winter tractor and push down through the water and slush.
  3. By chance do you have a extra deep pan installed?
  4. One tire fire differential. No clutches. No limited slip. No locker. Just good 'ol differential with 80w-90 gear lube. Run most the winter in 2WD rarely do I lock in 4WD. I've got a brand new set of chains that are 15 years old and never used yet. Both truck are standard differential no clutches. The chains on the left are my set of chains from my 1972 Dodge Power Wagon which are nearly 30 years old rarely used. Now retired to the 1996 Dodge Pickup which I've never used chains on that truck yet. The chains on the right have never been on the ground yet are 15 years old. I've got to buy another set of rubber bands for those chains. The rubber bands have long gone rotten and broke. Again never used. I've carried a set of chains every year but never used them. I've never been stuck in the snow yet.
  5. Error codes? Have you tested your alternator for excessive AC noise? After your sure the alternator is good and clean power I suggest doing the W-T ground mod.
  6. Doesn't mean you got a good VP44. There is a lot of rebuilders out there and some don't have the Bosch 815 test stand to properly bench test and calibrate the PSG module on the VP44. Certified rebuilders are suppose to replace the PSG and then calibrate the PSG on the test stand for 3 hours and then the new PSG is flash with new code. Now the other rebuilders fly by night and just replace the worn parts internally and reuse the old PSG. This is why you have P1688 code because the PSG is damaged and was not replaced most likely. At this point in time, your pump is dead and requires replacement. The P1688 is a death code and this is a warranty issue for sure. Like I know Diesel Auto Power sells certified Bosch pumps from both Midwest Injection and Industrial Injection.
  7. Ummm... Maybe... The part that sucks is you know that it only 2 bolts to unhook the vacuum pump to the gear case. Nearly impossible to line the entire mess back up with the power steering pump and hoses hanging off the two pumps. Just take the time and fix it. I know it PITA to pull the 4 nuts on the P/S pump and then pull the vacuum pump but at least your sure of the gear case gasket.
  8. Secret... If you and me where to walk out into the snow we would sink every step we make. Then if you put on snowshoes you can walk on top of the snow. The secret is I've always ran small pizza cutter tires that push down to the road surface and gain traction easy. where guys with wide tires tend to float on top and have huge issues with traction.
  9. Hmmm... In the entire 15 years of ownership on my truck I've only been stuck twice. Once in the yard moving the RV on soft ground. Then the other time with a full load of wood trying to cross soft ground. I'm 4WD and standard differential and rarely do I use 4WD even in the winter time with icy roads. Just to make you think.
  10. I would read and do as much of the diagnostics as possible but it looks like you have a got a bad VP44.
  11. Coolant system pressure tester just like I did. Pump it up to about 17 PSI and trace out the water source. Control arm is just replacement. You might want to Jack stand the frame letting the axle hang free.
  12. Timing is completely up to you. Like I run about 21 degrees at 2k on the tach. I'm in this more so for longevity and MPG. Basically I'm building tunes that reduce engine load at set speed. Matter of fact since my head gasket and head rebuild I had to rebuild the tune. Compression is way better and less blowby. I had to change my fuel load timing from 1.5 to 3 degrees. Lowered my starting timing to 15 degree with a stepping of +3 thorough the bands.
  13. I've got to admit now the rebuilt head and gasket the trucks great. Now I noticed I had to change up my Quadzilla tune. Lets see what I can hit now.
  14. I'm no better with dumping $1,600 or so in head gasket, studs and refurb the head. Next on my list is brakes and the front end clunking noise. @Me78569 yes, I know exactly what it is too. I know you wished you knew... Control arm bushings.
  15. Absolutely... Quadzilla Adrenaline and done. My old Edge Comp was very tough to tune and get all the HP without making it smoke. As for the Quadzilla you can build tunes that are very clean and don't smoke at all.
  16. If the resistor is blown that's because the blower motor bearings are shot adding extra load on the resistor. ...or did you forget to plug it back in?
  17. I guess that what you call, "Going for broke"
  18. You mean winter feathers? What you never molt?
  19. That time of the year is coming... Any starting there winter fuzz?
  20. Running the same idea... I've got my cellphone jacked into the aux jack of my Kenwood MP3 player so all cellphone calls are through the stereo, all my text messages are read over the stereo, I can voice command the phone and send text messages or call people. Quadzilla tuner on my cellphone and then for those time I want to listen to my MP3 pile on the phone aqnd can play Google play and listen to that music too. Completely handfree setup if you set up the Google Voice Commands (Android of course).
  21. Yeah, the outside you'll see the oil leak and the crack case typically below the fan mount.
  22. I've got to ask what was the total cost of the new rocker arms for the set?
  23. You want to find a fold-down style screen and not a fold-up. There out there I did some research on it and found a few single DIN stereos with fold down screens. This way the screen doesn't fold up over the center vents which would suck on a hot summers day and not have air from the center vents. There are a few members that did Android stereos and managed to load iQuad App on the stereo without an issue. As for stereo apps, I imagine you could set your cellphone up for tether on Bluetooth and then the stereo would have an internet connection to download the iQuad app. I do that now with my laptop and cellphone instead of WiFi.
