  1. Your vacuum problem is probably just a vacuum line unhooked. Start by finding the line coming off your vacuum pump and trace it out. Also make sure you have no cracked line(s) anywhere too. The HVAC system 'defaults' to defrost anytime there is no vacuum.
  2. Ohhhhhh, changing the pan gasket is not a fun job. You need to lift the front of the engine to pull the pan off. Maybe he can clean the surfaces off and work the gasket in with the pan just hanging down.
  3. I don't know if that would do much. Since there was a compression test done and everything so far checks out good, there isn't much left to check.
  4. Hey guys (and gals), I am on an RV forum and they have a section for Cummins powered RVs. There is someone on there that for what ever reason seems to try to contradict anything I post there. Here are some of his statements (in bold) about idling: "X2, The only thing you will hurt on Diesel @Idle is the Turbo, kick it up to 1000 and your good..... let er run" "Quote: Originally Posted by MnTom I guess I don't understand how you would be hurting the turbo at an idle. I know on my 5.9 the oil pressure cold at the the filter head where the turbo get its supply from the oil pressure will go as high as 85PSI and warm it is about 60PSI. That is from a mechanical gauge I installed as a test. The clearances between rod and crank, crank-journal are a lot less than a turbo, the turbo actually floats in the oil as it spins....." You can read the whole thread here: http://www.irv2.com/forums/f123/idling-question-229301.html Then there is a discussion about air filters (again, his posts are in bold): "I use Donaldson filters, good price at Truck it parts a.com, K & N Air Filter ,a little more $$ but ya get what ya pay for." I countered with this: "You may want to read this: K&N Air Filter Review - Debunking the Myths (and why OEM is better)" then..... " Quote: Originally Posted by MnTom You may want to read this: K&N Air Filter Review - Debunking the Myths (and why OEM is better) Never had an issue with K&N even in my off road racing career, but, I have read several threads on here about OEM air filter causing diesel engines to fail as a result of allowing dirt in....., keep using the OEM ones." Read that thread here: http://www.irv2.com/forums/f123/couple-questions-about-isl-370-a-229696-2.html What I want is more info to counter his statements. Some of you are more "articulate" with a keyboard than I am. Help me show him the error of his thinking.
  5. Then like I said, check the valve train.......... A worn cam, bent pushrod, rocker arm issue, etc.

It's been a might bit warmer in Anchorage, Alaska that a lot of the Lower 48. Anchorage didn't even get below zero all last year. http://www.usclimatedata.com/climate/anchorage/alaska/united-states/usak0012
  7. HEY!! I resemble that........
  8. Figure out whick wires are the parking light and the turn signal lights. Tie one wire into each one. It will ground through whichever light does not have power meaning with the lights on it wil stay on steady and then blink with the turn signal.
  9. My understanding is that by the time you swap it to a manual the cost is as much as a new tranny would be. I don't kno wfor certain, but that is what I have read. If you want you can PM member Diesel4life and he can give you the number of a guy that is the Guru of the 47REs in NE Ohio. What ever you do DO NOT let Mike Blood touch it!
  10. So, what were the fuses for that were blown?

-12* with a 5 to 15 mph breeze here this AM. We are under a Wind Chill Advisory for wind chils of -25* to -35*. W&F should be experiencing the same thing.......

We had most of this month about 15* above normal and now we are running about 15* below normal. It was -11* here this morning when I got up.
  13. No, the reason it won't be the same is the oil filter is the first thing that sees oil pressure. By the time the oil pressure gets to the sender on the side of the block you are at the end of the flow after there are many "leaks". Every bearing or pivot for the rockers, turbo, etc. equals a reletively small leak in the oil system. If they didn't leak there would be no cooling from the oil and the bearing life would be quite short. Most people don't know that most of the oil flow is for cooling purposes and the oil pressure that can properly LUBE an engine is quite low. Also, keep in mind that the oil pressure will be the highest pressure is when the engine is cold.
  14. You probably could change the rectifier pack by leaving it on the truck, but I would think that it would by sorta tough to do......... I would pull it.
  15. That's it. He more than likely had the stove shut down good and once he opened the door the stove experienced the same thing as a flash over causing an exlosion of flame and literally blowing fire, embers, and sparks out.
  16. If you do this make sure your equipment can handle 100 psi oil pressure.
  17. You could do this with a 12 valve, but a VP or CR you can't set the idle. Mine idles at about 900RPM so that it will be 750RPM in gear.
  18. Is your floor rotted?
  19. So, then you are saying he cannot have a fuel leak that is getting into the oil? The fuel is getting in somehow.
  20. My understanding is that the only thing that is required to make H-1s fit is the center hole needs to be made slightly larger. I am not sure about the lift requirement for putting 37" tires on though
  21. That is the way it is suppoed to be done, I don't know how it was done, but the guy did it. I can say for certain it is able to jump a tooth. It is not a difficult fix, but a PITA if it happens.
  22. BY JOVE, I do think he's got it! You won't loose anything by trying some grease then you will know for sure!
  23. Correct, no lead, but the reason it is higher is because they can. Same as why diesel is OVER $1 a gallon more when it is essentially a by-product of refining oil to make gasoline. I do understand that there is a bit more done to the fuel after refining (sulpher removal), but it is still a by-product.
  24. If it was an external leak the oil level would not be growing. It has to be an internal leak to get to the oil pan.
  25. I was told that you need to check the size of the latch and the smaller one is the one needed.
