Grid Heater Short
Before you order one up take a bit of time and examine your heaters. They are really simple in design and about the only place I can think of is either the stud(s) are shorted or MAYBE there is something shorting the grid when it is put together. I have not ever heard of anyone needing to replace the grids.

Grid Heater Short
I have not heard of many problems with the bushings. Something else you can do is pull the heater elements out to look at things better too. edit: I found a video that shows the grids pull about 75Amps MAX. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQONNwYr2ks

Grid Heater Short
First of all is it one or both? If it is one then I would look real close at the insulating bushing where the stud comes out. If it is both then I would pull the intake horn and go from there, but remember, they do pull about 90 or so amps each and a lot of welding is done at lower amperage.

Anybody Do Any Hunting?
I haven't hunted much in the last few years except for grouse. If my wife or son get a deer that is fine, but I don't much care if I ever shoot one or not. Wife and kids have been on a bunch of moose licenses so I get to help once they get one down (Indian laws). I have also helped some of my in-laws on moose hunts too.

Alaska Weather!
I use propane here too. I pre-buy my fuel every winter so I am covered. I normally buy 800 gallons, but this year I bought 1000 gallons at $1.799. If the retail price went down then I would get it at a lower price giving me extra on my pre-buy, but if the price went up I would have a maximum of what I paid. The news people say the price is now OVER $5.00 a gallon! I just went to a seminar about taking a trip to Alaska. Anchorage is way warmer than here........

3Rd Gen Or 4Th Gen Steering Upgrade For 2Nd Gen?
The 2WD trucks do not have a track bar on them. They even have the 'lighter duty' steering linkage with an idler arm too. I have wondered if the heavy duty steering the 4WD use would fit and be an upgrade by eliminating the idler arm.

Good Morning Idaho!
Don't forget how warm it is in Anchorage. I see a temp of 33*F and that is the LOW for today. 39*F for a high and rain all the way until Saturday. And YAY for us....... another Polar Vortex....... -22*F this morning and a high of 0*F.

Parking Brake Cable Advice/knowledge
The axle seal is pretty straight forward. Pull the axle, pull out the small keeper between the nut and axle tube, unscrew the 2 9/16" nut, pull hub off. Turn the hub so the inside is pointed up and pry the seal out. Assembly is reverse of tear down. Just becareful to not let the hub hang on the axle tube without having the outer brearing in place. If you let it hang you stand a pretty good chance of ruining the seal.

I have not seen a blue light on any of the three TDIs in my family. 2 '06 Jettas and one '12 JSW

Low Temps And Now Power?
My son decided he wanted to try out the heater tonight. The outside temp right now is 18* above so it should be showing on the temp gauge. I just looked at the temps in your area JR and they don't look too bad. 3* above is about the coldest for next week for you. Gonna get to about -15* here.

First Time Towing- Is My Power Curve Normal?
That sounds pretty close to normal. The ECM starts to defuel at about 2500 RPMs. I don't know if you would get to 3000 RPM in O/D. Besides you would be in the triple digit territory for speed! Welcome to the world of torque.

Low Temps And Now Power?
JR, I wish you would check the temperature. Like you said, 1000 watts is a lot of heat. Shoot, we only have 750 watts on our trucks!

There is no heater on my 2012 TDI.

Rear Brake Issues
Last I checked the cylinders were only about $25 for the pair. edit: I lied to you. I just checked and they are $9.69 each close to me. If you decide you want them don't tell the person behind the counter that they are fior a Dodge. All that would do is confuse them. The cylinders are for a 1 ton Chevy truck.
