Had one heck of a week "In a Good way"
Here in North Dakota Ron Paul made a 4 city tour in 2 days, very short and only announced a couple days in advance to prevent his opposition from organizing any negativity campaigns against him, "It worked" I got to see him speak in Bismarck monday the 20th on Presidents day to boot "Knock on wood" in person. It was a great time and a packed house. I have been so fired up and fed up with how things are going I attended my district GOP convention which was on Thursday night and got myself elected as a delegate to go to the state GOP convention. At least I got my foot in the door now. After spending a few hours visiting with folks who also were elected delegates "there are 32 in my district" I can say there is a strong chance my district will nominate Ron Paul.

data link for cummins insite
It hangs in the fuel filter area. Slightly below/behind the filter housing IIRC. Its a connector that isn't hooked to anything. Generally performance boxes like edge EZ and other comp boxes hook up to it for signals or boost fooling.

Injector Pop Pressure
Looked like it wasn't spraying out all of the holes in the tip unless the camera angle was off but I didn't even see the spray in the end of the video.

Best Fuel Pressure Gauges
I like westach gauges, no bling like others but solid quality. I had an electronic westach fuel psi sender for years on my 02 with not a single glitch and no snubber or needle valve.

Newbie from Oregon - Michael from ISSPRO
I thought the DirtyMax was G&J Diesels truck out of Billings Montana. I saw that rig in person a few years back at a G&J diesel event in Billings and at the now closed Acton NHRA speedway. It was plagued with breaking pinion shafts at the time. Should have never used a 9 inch ford rear end with that kind of power.

Mopar Man's Reverse Lights! PICS!
Scotch locks:banghead::wow:If you lived in an area with any kind of deicing solution on the road way you will be replacing almost all of the rear end wiring harness in a few years and will be plagued with all sorts of wiring glitches in the future once the wiring turns green and corrodes about 4 feet into the wire insulation.Believe me scotch locks and non heat shrink connectors have made this man lots of money over the years repairing wiring harnesses on all sorts of vehicles they were used on.

6.7 Harmonic Damper on a 5.9
Good to know for those who might be wanting one I know on the older ones The dampners are usually different diameters from one generation to the next due to how the accessories are and also some dampners have notches for speed sensors ect. If you go to fluid dampners sight they give a good break down of each dampner so you can see the difference.

Question on metal filings!
Take a prybar and pry the carrier housing side to side to check how much play or preload is on the bearings if it is tight I wouldn't worry if there is movement I would pull the carrier and inspect things. Danas are noted for spinning the carrier bearings inside the case if preload gets loose. This will cause fine silt like iron as well as if you spin one wheel a lot since it is an open carrier the side thrust washers on the spider gears will wear a bit and cause fine iron silt too.

47RE question
Non lockup converters in the automotive market went the way of the dinosauer in the 80's. There may be a few theat went into the 90's but thats about it. In fact you can upgrade the older trannies with lockup converters and valvebodies.

Engine shuts down when the head lights are turned on
I would also look at the wires on the bottom side of the steering column. On my 02 I recently sold I had to repair several wires that broke from years of bending back and forth. A couple wires were for the horn and cruise and one was the main power feed for the key switch.

Another Wolf Attack in Emmett, Idaho
Canadian grey or timber wolf in the northern part of the us is minor we could be talking a difference of a hunderd miles of original territory around the turn of the 20th century, had man not intervened they would have followed the food supply either way, so to say they are not natural to that part of the country is hard to prove. Look at mountain lions. They are all across north and south dakota and minnesota but they were not introduced or reintroduced its the territorial nature of the animal and following the food and juveniles being forced to new areas.
-
Another Wolf Attack in Emmett, Idaho
My point being the wolves are still native to north america, other than the american indians we humans are the invasive species here.:evilgrin:So other than us humans moving into wolf territory, I still don't see the problem here. Its natural for predators to move. Especially those that are territorial.

Another Wolf Attack in Emmett, Idaho
Well they were here first! Its called survival of the fittest. Mother nature weeds out the week even if its human. Doesn't mean they need to be killed because they kill off the stupid.:banghead: Our state is saturated with mountain lions and everyone wants to kill them even though they do little noticable damage. A couple horses dogs and domestic cats get wounded or killed every year but not much else.

Question on metal filings!
Yep! some Silt is ok, excessive silt, flakes or chunks are not. Usually if you get to excessive silt you will have flakes starting to show up. --- Update to the previous post... Silt IS small metal when its stuck to the magnet or magnetized sensor.
-
Question on metal filings!
It is 100% normal to see a small amount very fine iron silt. Like I posted earlier if it is heaped on the magnet of the diff cover or the speed sensor which is magnetized as well then its time to inspect.
-
Question on metal filings!
Is it like silt or actual shavings? Silt like material is 100% normal unless the magnet is piled with it, if there is a nice ring of silt around the outside edges of the magnet I wouldn't worry. If its more than that like chunks or flakes pull the cover clean it out and inspect.

Steering Wheel
My 02 did this a couple weeks after a new clockspring install. It was the plastic rubbing together between the rotating center section and the stationary part of the clock spring hsg. Pulled the airbag back and spritzed a bit of lube on the plastic and presto chango no more squeake.:thumbup2:No battery disconnect or anything else needed.

05 feed pickup gets front end work
My 05;s ball joints were shot at around 40k, I put Carli joints in it so I will never have to worry about them again.Never had an issue with my 02 ball joints or axle u-joints even with the extra weight from the ranch hand bumper. mostly country road and bad pavement miles for 9 years and 140K miles. The rest of the steering is a different story though.

My new ride, 2010 Ram 1500
I recently sold My 02 cummins as I had 2 Ram cummins and was daily driving one and with the price of diesel being so high I couldn't justify having 2 of them so I went Hemi shopping and found this one.2010 Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 quad cab 5.7 Hemi 5 spd auto. first tank averaged 16.9 with a good mix of driving and a lot of town driving for my standards. So I am happy as can be as my cummins daily averaged 15.5-16.5 so with gas being 40 lower than diesel around here right now I am saving money already. It had 19,800 miles when I drove it off the lot. still has factory warranty.:thumb1:So far almost 2K miles on it since I bought it. Mileage has been great, hand calculated it has averaged right about 17. lowest tank was 15.9 and highest was 17.9 with most coming in at 16.9-17.1 range. Even the econo gauge is pretty accurate, it actually reads low if anything but has been within a couple tenths at most fill ups if not dead on.

oil out the dipstick??
Getting hot is a very small factor in it. Could be a broken ring could be worn rings from bad or dirty air filter in the past "dusting", could have been a dirty injector spaying inconsistantly causing a hot spot on the piston which could melt a small hole in piston. Pistons can and do fail for other reasons. Could be washed out cylider walls from faulty injectors or another symptom of "dusting" could be a scored cylinder wall caused by one or several of above descriptions or from using poor quality oil, excessive uneccesary idle time will cause this as well. A broken or dropped valve seat or a previous injector tip failure could have damaged the piston and over time it created a hole or scoring. Until you get the head off you will not know. You are wasting your time with doing all the extra tests, you already know it is internal damage. With The time you have spent chasing you could have had it almost fixed already. If the compression test failed why would you think a leak down test would give any different results?

Why coolant flushing or changes are a must...
Even more contamination. iron minerals sodium ect ect. My well water turn rust orange after it sits for a few hours in a container and a neighbors well water looks like you put alka seltzer in the water when it comes out of the tap its sodium is so high it is fizzy. Reminds me of True story, When I worked at a CaseIh dealer a dairy farmer bought a new tractor and a few weeks the water pump went out "B series 5.9 cummins" And when I swapped it the block was full of dirty sandy water so I flushed and installed new pump thinking he used what he had to keep it full. a week later the same issue arose, water pump out and leaking and once again muddy sandy water. So I asked him why he couldn't find cleaner water to fill it up with, Keep in mind this is an old timer and he farms right next to the Missouri river, This is what he told me, "I drain that green stuff out of all my new equipment and put river water in because that water doesn't freeze up until it gets down to 0 to -10*, I couldn't even find any words to express my shock at the stupidity I just heard. I went back to shop and told the management team who passed on to him he no longer had any warranty on his brand new $60K tractor engine. I never had to go out to his farm again.

Why coolant flushing or changes are a must...
Don't blame the coolant as the problem caused by the tap water long term. Tap water ingredients= Chlorine=caustic, Sodium fluoride among other caustic stuff that the gov says is good for us.
