  1. Thanks guys, I will see if ISX wants to part with the pink one................I am not too proud to carry a pink one lol.
  2. They would last as long if they had only one injection event per revolution like all previous models but they fire 2-3 time more than the old ones which plays into the shorter life span measured in hours or miles.
  3. Anything in the works for us old 3rd gen guys? You second gen guys just need to let them die in peace....................
  4. All three commenters under the tst j-hook all run K&N filter...............................not very educated folks.
  5. Yep if you have an auto tranny you have an HY35 turbo which doesn't have a boost elbow, it has a different type of waste gate which needs the J-hook to hold it closed a bit longer meaning it adds more spring tension on it externally requiring a bit more boost to get it to open.
  6. Look for a Passat if you are bigger people, the front seats have plenty of room in a Jetta but if you plan on having even small kids in the back you will definitely want a Passat plus they have more head room as well as rear seat leg room, we have an 03 Jetta TDI GLS 5spd manual with about 250K on it and it is still a solid rig 100% stock and still oem clutch and fuel system but it could use a set on new injectors. I like the 99-03 body style the best and it has a solid body, engine and injection system similar to our VP rigs only with little to no issues they do have a Bosch VP pump but not sure what model it is right off. I have never heard of any automatic tranny issues with them but I have not looked into it either as we do not have one. to be honest. The 04 - ? had a different fuel system on them but I think they are still a good system, not sure when they went with more emissions. I know MnTom has several newer ones in his family so he could answer questions about the PD "Pump Deuce"fuel system similar to common rail I believe and how they are holding up for him. Mileage will be between 40-50 depending on car and driving conditions.
  7. I like to keep my money and manage it myself, you get no benefit from overpaying, I like to manage and save so If I do have to pay in it won't be much but at least I had the benefit of investing and making a bit of profit from it rather than giving it to the government to hold for free. Then you could have had the money for gauges already.............................................
  8. We have a local guy here who does airbrush painting and owns a Tattoo shop who has an older like late 90's crew cab chevy dually like this one he has lowered like that too not sure if it is air ride or not but it has an awesome airbrushed paint job, I see it around Bismarck / Mandan every once in a while. He has been featured on Sturgis tv shows for airbrushing custom Bikes now days too. http://www.dollsstudios.com/about-jason.asp He doesn't have pics of his own rides on the site though.
  9. Hits close to home, 5 people from my area went missing while snowmobiling Thursday in Wyo. http://www.kxnet.com/story/24791492/five-north-dakota-men-missing-in-Wyoming Found them and all alright. http://www.kxnet.com/story/24794832/missing-north-dakota-men-found-safe
  10. She has the smallest cheapest one they make called an I-pod mini, no screen just a couple of buttons, I would like one with a small screen. How about music sources, stick with I-tunes then as it is so easy to deal with?
  11. I-pod because of the ease of use and or quality or both?
  12. OK so I am usually about 5+ years behind the curve in technology, just the way I roll. Here is the deal my wife has had an I-Pod mini she got as a gift a few years ago and uses it while running so along comes me I buy an el-cheapo $14 walmart special mini mp3 player and a portable speaker for it and get it home and decide to do some music down loads but I do not know where the best site is to get the music from? My wife has an I-tunes account that links directly to her I-pod mini and downloads directly from site to device. I read the directions on my el-cheapo and I have to download music to my computer first and then transfer to the device, should I just return it and buy an I-pod mini at 4 times the price Since my wife has an I-tunes acct already and it would be a huge time saver to load music to or just bite the bullet and use the one I have even though it will be a pain in the but to load music on? What are your thoughts on best music source and best player? I have started working out a lot now too and see the benefit of having ones favorite music to stay motivated during the workouts. Can one download music from I-tunes for generic mp3 players? Sorry for being extreme non techy when it comes to these things.
  13. Yep it is the frost heater tank heater, thing has been awesome after I fixed the two cord issues it had. They came with a crappy cord, first the end went bad so I cut it off and wired on a new one and then the connections inside the heater where the cord hooks up went bad so had to disassemble the unit and replace the internal connectors, that has been several years ago and has been flawless since, the first few years I had to retighten the coolant hoses a couple times a year until they finally stopped weeping.
  14. I feel for you buddy, hang in there! I know how something you didn't have a lot of control over can come back to haunt you, I experience it quite often as a supervisor.
  15. Started out the year tipping the scale at 280 started working the flywheel harder in my elipticle and have dropped to 265 in 6 weeks. Or did you mean my Pickup......... I had my 02 across scales so many times while power pulling I could have told you what it weighed at any point, I have never been across a scale with either of my current rigs without a trailer behind them.
  16. I have placed many orders over the last 10 years and get it 2 days later every time and I am twice as far from the outlet as you, not sure how getting Amsoil in Grand forks wouldn't be a next day delivery or 2nd day at most.
  17. And now I developed an exhaust leak on the passenger side by the engine, need to take time to crawl under and see if it is a cracked manifold or blown gasket, I am leaning towards a manifold issue as it only leaks for a couple of minutes at cold start up until things warm up and expand then it is all quiet again.
  18. At that age I would be replacing all the rubber fuel lines as well, they could be dried out and starting to crack and allow some air into the system.
  19. I say nay nay...................he should sell it before it contaminates the ground water in Canada from all of the leaks it has. Having the capability to fix it myself I would take it off his hands...........................and then keep it myself.
  20. I need to add to my prior post, the reason the additives are depleted is that they are designed to bond or bind to contaminants like soot and moisture which makes the particles or molecules bigger to the point that the filter can actually catch them and filer them out of circulation. As one sees soot climb in samples this is normal but also a part of the depletion of the additives. The primary additive that depletes is zinc phosphate and phosphate doesn't show on any analysis. The stacked disc filters are designed to catch the moisture in the oil the way the oil flows through and down the media, I sat through several filter training classes and this design was about the best on the planet for getting moisture and sludge out of the oil and matched with the stratapore media was about a perfect combo. The only thing that is better is a slinger. When one looks at filter quality there was a trick I once saw, Take brand new filters and cut them open and then take a white clean towel with a bit of clean oil on it and then wipe it through the inside of the filter housing, there were only a few filters that came out clean a lot of them came out black from the fine metal residue you see on new iron, that was an eye opener. Fleetgaurd/ CAT /Donaldson were the only ones to pass that quality test of the 10 or so common filter brands we cut open. I have brought this up a few times in filter threads already when filter quality comes up. You can have the best filtering media on the planet but if it only holds a little bit of contamination before it is plugged and thus bypasses what good did looking at the filter medias filtering capability when the capacity is even more important. Some Filter companies don't want this info out there but when shopping for filters look for the "Sediment Index" of the filter, this is how much contamination a filter can hold before it is plugged, you will find this info either buried so deep in filter specs your chances of finding it will be slim or they do not post it at all but a few filter mfgs do post it up front.
  21. I would if I knew the price he wants for it. Who wants to start the bidding? The lad needs the money for a mega cab or to fix up his 02.
  22. Did you run the same filter and oil together for the whole 40K miles with no service at all or did you do regular filter changes and replenish the oil lost from the filter replacement? Problem with oil analysis labs is they check the basics but none that I know of test whats left of the protective additives in the oil which is what is depleted over time even though the uoa looks fine plus as a filter gets used up as in plugged with normal material it actually filters better to the pointy it can filter out the additives themselves also, this is more so the case with certain finer micron bypass filters rather than full flow filters but if using a quality full flow it will happen as well. I ran 30K on a single oil change with my 02 but did regular filter changes, full flow every 5k and both full flow and bypass every 10k and added renewal oil to replace what was lost during the filter changes so my oil was all changed out already at the 30K mark. Having worked at different shops over the years I knew a farmer who was a petro Canada oil dealer and ran their 15-40 synthetic for 1.3 million miles on a B series 3406 Cat with not a single oil drain only oil filter changes every 10k miles and he had me pull the pan and inspect the bearings at 1.3 million miles and the lower end of the engine looked like new, we actually put the stock bearings back up.
  23. Around here Boss V plows are king although we have few plows, we do not get straight down snow often if ever, most of our snow blows in in piles so plows are not practical for most other than contractors who do snow removal in big lots on a regular basis. loaders and blowers are the primary snow removal tools in our area due to the amount and the way our snow piles in other than open roads. One could start with a plow for a couple of snows and then you would be screwed as you would have no place to move it after making the initial trail which there after fills in first with the next snow blow and when it thaws and freezes into near concrete barrier strength then you are down to blowing it and moving and piling it with a loader anyhow.
  24. All new crosses come with new clips so no need to be gentle, get in there with a small tipped chisel if they are rusted in tight, wrap things pretty hard with a hammer to start to loosen the rust if need be.
