OIl consumption issue
I honestly would never run anything less than a 10w oil in a diesel unless it is designed to run it like VW, The issue may be coming from the 5w you were using. I use Amsoil and it is just as bad if not worse than Rotella as far as smell goes, It ususally smells very strong for about 3-5k miles before it simmers down, even the ATF does the same thing, can smell it for a couple months after doing a tranny service. What does your air filter and intake look like? I hope you don't have a K&N r some other cheap media filter on it that would have dusted the engine like a friend of mine did this year with an 03 CR. I believe he had an AEM Brute force intake and filter.

timer for block heater
I saw -32* on my pickups thermo this morning on my way to work. I have used several of the plastic ones and they last only a couple weeks and then they crap out. I think the bigger ones that come in a steel box are better. I don't use them as working shift work and all the other running around we do I would spend more time programming these and never knowing when we are running. I just plug it in before I go to bed and let er burn. The tank heater in my wifes jetta is actually t-stat controlled internally unlike block heaters.

LED Headlight
Who makes them and how much $ are they listed at? I love LED lights, the newer technology is awesome and they are coming way down in price not to mention the near endless life span they are getting now.

new fass installed
That is why I like the electric westach fuel psi gauges, they are designed and have built in hammer buffering protection, no snubber or restritcer fittings needed.

Where to jack up rear of truck?
Not sure what you means there but a small set of chock blocks are really cheap from any auto parts or general farm or hardware store carry them, get the rubber ones though don't waste your time on the plastic ones. They come in many shapes and sizes.I can't work without a set, One would laugh at ther creative ways I use my hoist to lift certain vehicles, Just had my landscapers 08 one ton quad cab dually with flatbed in my shop, the hoist isn't big enough to lift the whole truck so I just jacked up the front half and chock blocked the rear wheels so it wouldn't move once I had the front end about 3 feet off the ground and on the hoist locks.Heck I use my cut and split fire wood as chocks all the time for all my trailers whenever I unhook one it always has firewood chocks under a couple tires, the V shape fits perfect under tires.

High Idle Kit Is Here
I want to hear what it sounds like rolling down a mt road in 3 cyl operation with the exhaust brake on........ Looks like one needs to wear a respirator while riding in your cab lol........

Fuel 2-3 psi
A coworker with an 03 cummins and Fass system had to leave his sit in the shop at work to warm up and get a ride home, his Fass wouldn't build any pressure, my HPFP150 would be like that when it was below zero too, had to restart it a couple times or drive it a couple miles and then restart it to get any fuel pressure to build.

High Idle Kit Is Here
yeah I just kinda give up some days too. Same goes for calling all pickups a "Truck". No duals or tandem axles not a truck!

Flashing wait to start light
Haven't read about a blinking wts light but I know from experience on my 02 that no wts means the engine ecm is dead and it will not start.

fuel system
Get a big line kit that goes in between the filter housing and VP44, it comes with the larger banjo bolts for the bottom of the filter hsg and the VP. I ran a 150 FASS HPFP on my 02 for many years at 560 hp with just 3/8 line from the top of the tank to the filter head and not a single issue. just tied into the factory pickup tube on top of the tank.

No crank
Does the dash come to life when you turn the key on or is everything dead? Try tilting the steer column up and down while holding the key in the start position to see if you have a broken wire in the tilt area of the column.

The epic split!
I used to be a fan as well until his wife beating conviction and that ended it for me, don't even watch reruns of things he was in. His career never did recover after that, he has had roles but nothing like before which is still more than he should have in my opinion. Chuck Norris is just on a lot higher moral ground than JCVD.

VP or something else??
Welcome to the family, Did you recheck for codes again after this started happening again and did you try an APPS reset?

Stuff Woodburners Should Never Hear……………or Say
You been watching how I do things? Not that the wood isn't dry and seasoned..just wet from the snow and rain carrying it in from the weather it tends to be wet, I store mine in the open uncovered and unprotected away from the house. On several ocassions I have had my stove and the chimney pipe glowing red from super dry fast burning cotton wood.

Recommendations for a Jump Starter
Only if the Battery voltage is at or above 9.5 volts, anything less and the ECM will not function thus a no start...............................But I would have fun watching it. Another reason I like these is the places vehicle do wind up with dead batteries makes for a challenge getting close enough to get a set of jumper cables to reach from one vehicle to another a lot of times, can't cont the times I have had to move things or pull a vehicle out of a tight spot to even get close.

Recommendations for a Jump Starter
I bought a Diehard platinum portable power 1150 from sears, one of the more expensive ones at over a hundred bucks as It does and offers a lot, it had the most reserve and highest cranking amps, has a 150 psi air compressor with built in gauge and hose has a 120 v inverter and 2 plug ins and 2 12 v plug ins and has USB charging ports too plus an LED light built in. I carry it on my pontoon mainly as I boat on a large lake and can end up many miles from the closest person or shore at times and its nice o have a bit of extra insurance from a dead battery if a storm is coming ect. They do make a car charger for it but I do not have it, I store mine at home and it has to be checked and recharged every couple of weeks at least as it does draw down over time, It has a digital read out that shows the % of charge and it is slow to charge if it is down below 50% it takes 4-8 hours to top off, even if it is at 70-80% it takes a couple hours to charge to 100%.

air filter question
The AFE dry filter elements are very high quality and if used with an outer wear slip over to keep the corn cobs and grasshoppers out of the media pleats will last forever. No washing just blow it out a couple times a year and go, the media is of a design that air from a gun won't damage it, it was designed to stand up to this and live forever.
