Replacing the VP44
Actually my first Blue Chip pump took 3 hrs. He does not post instructions on line for competitors to use, and the 3 line trick is in his instructions as well. He just sends out a printed replacement guide.

OK no laughing guys but my truck doesn't have owners manual, sooooo
More like you can buy 3 at Fleetpride for $50.00. You should be able to prime it, just bump the starter with out starting it, and it runs the fuel pump 30 seconds, You can also put a jumper across the switched contacts of the relay to run the pump as long as you like. I have even run a jumper from a 12 V GP relay, to the load side of the relay, that way I don't even have to turn on the key. Do you have fuel pressure gauge, it makes it easy to see what is going on.

Wanting to build my own big line kit for my truck.
I made my own out of some extra 1/2" line left over from the Fass pump installation. I am pretty sure they are 12 MM banjo bolts, the bigger ones are 15 MM. I ended up buying fittings from Vulcan. I decided to get a tapped 90 and run the fuel pressure gauge at the filter outlet rather then the VP44 inlet. My thoughts were, with 1/2" line less the 12" long, I wont get any sort of pressure drop, plus I get a cushion from the VP44s hammering effect on the sending unit.Let a few others jump in and confirm the line size as well.

VP44 problems ?????
I assume you checked the fuel filter?

looked under the truck!
You could try and top it off with a little brake fluid, it does a good job of swelling the seals, and it might just save you a steering box replacement? I have done this more then once for seal leaks, and most of the time it works.

Your right, I forgot about the source of water, but for me it is second nature to go to volume stations, I don't even think about it any more. I actually have a company right down the road from me that sells home heating oil, and they put in large volume pumps and get alot of heavy truck traffic. My blonde haired wife goes there with a Jeep Diesel, and says men always get excited and warn her that she is using the wrong fuel, must be the blonde hair? But when I see a Moolah station with the prices 5% higher then every one else, I stay away.

VP44 problems ?????
I would not call less then 2 feet a deep well If a Fass 95 is not capable of that, I am going back to the OE Carter that is capable. It actually primed it self very quickly on 1/4 tank of fuel, with no fuel in the new lines. So the pump is very capable of pulling the tiny bit of lift, and 23 PSI is proof of that. My pump would have to be 9" from the ground to have 0" lift on the intake side. But sure a pump that needs no prime is best situation.

VP44 problems ?????
Hmm, I located mine under the hood by the engine where it is high and dry, instead of underneath where the winter road slop can corrode it. I Get 23 PSI at idle, if you have no air leaks, it should not matter where you mount it.

Thats it, open the drain cock on the fuel filter canister into a suitable container, the water should come out first because it will be on the bottom. It was not a good idea to put this off, you could screw up your injection pump really quick. You should pull out the filter and be sure all the water is gone, and clean the probes on the water in fuel sensor, it screws into the lower side of the canister. Put it a new fuel filter and bump the key for a second, and leave it in run position with engine not running for 30 seconds, and repeat a couple of times then try to start it.

Get the after market pump, and do it once, before you blow the VP at $1000.00 +.

Fuel Pressure
I am running 23 PSI at idle, and it can drop down to 16 on a hard run, once I see 14 I will change the filter. I don't think the truck has ever run as good with the stock pump as it does with the Fass.

A/C Evaporator
Maybe you should consider a new heater core while you are in there as well? But they dont seen to fail as much as the old brass and copper ones did? I have seen quite of few of them fail, back in the day. You should prolly buy every part to the evaporator that is behind the fire wall, and return what you don't use. I imaging the inlet and outlet stick through the fire wall, so prolly just the evaporator, and fingers crossed that nothing breaks, that you cant make your self.

New oil burner
I got a snow plow attachment and a 200 lb ballast box for now, I cant imagine I would ever do enough digging to have a loader, but I could always get the bucket and hoe later, if it came to that. As far as the price goes, that is why JD does financing. Who would have ever though pick up trucks would go for $30,000.00 and up? Yeah, I should give the 3 point a try, I was thinking about it, but I wanted to see how it pulled, so I put it in 4 wheel and it did good. I forgot all about the differential lock, so I have to try that as well. Don,t worry, I can always find more brush and small trees to pull out.

New oil burner
Just got it delivered the other day, and this thing has some torque, So far used it to rip a bunch of wild bushes out of the ground, roots and all. The wife likes it, good to have a supportive wife. Bob, (me) likes it alot, I even look like a farmer setting on it. At rest in the shop.

Did you ever bring it to an authorized Cummins repair center and ask them to diagnose it for you? Sure you are going to have to pay for it, but tell them you want a guarantee on the repairs if they do them.Any ways, what is the count? How many VPs in how long?

He must be proud of all his redneck achievements? If he had a cam, we could make it a reality show.

Rebuil the VP44 to non electronic
It would be nice is the computer on the top of the VP was true plug and play, and allowed replacement without a new injection pump?

I know we cant post politics because we need to be PC and not offend any one. How bout Redneck, can I post that? I dont want any Rednecks getting mad and quitting the forum.http://myredneckworld.com/

I record it and FF through the commercials. If it were not for my wife, I would prolly not have a boob tube as well.

Sounds like JL should get his next VP from Guatemala?

Have any of you been following this reality road challenge. Pretty cool show, I am sure M73M would get a kick out of the 70s Hemi Cuda as well as the rest of you that have the Mopar Star tramp stamps tattooed on your back . That guy knows how to drive, and he gets thrown into every challenge, and ends up kicking Arse. I found out his co-pilot daughter can drive too.

Damn, did you ever try to contact Bosch? I was reading in CF one of the members there went to the Bosch factory and saw his VP being rebuilt. http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-performance-parts-discussion/108611-best-vp44.html#post1135077 This is getting ridiculous. I would have P-Pumped it or drove it of a cliff by now.

Yep, I know what you mean. :banghead: I notice you guys in TX are lucky, not have the rust on your trucks like us guys in the winter road salt states get. I am trying to nurse along the rusty utility body on the back of my FL as long as I can. At least the cab and chassis is hold up well, no rust, just dulling paint.

Obama bumper stickers worth having
Here you go. Elaboration: President Barack Obama became the first American president to chair the United Nations 15-member Security Council on September 24, 2009, during the 64th annual session of the UN General Assembly. http://www.knowthelies.com/?q=node/4422
