Bad IAT Sensor?
I don't know about the 2nd gen owners manual, but the 3rd gen owners manual details the temps/specs for when the grid heaters should operated. On a 3rd gen it's anytime the intake manifold temps are below 66*, I have heard, but never verified, 50* for a 2nd gen.

Need help from the members...
Seems to be working good for me. I downloaded a couple of files, and upload a couple.. Good speed and no issue.

Taking out the 2" level...
The instructions call for a little more removal of parts than I was hoping for... oh well, still doesn't look too bad.

Taking out the 2" level...
The part is here! Now to find time to install it. I think I'll do it when I do my 50K mile diff/trans/xcase service early next month.

What oil filter do you use?
Be sure to do an OEM sample interval with the new oil.. All oils are different. Have you done a UOA with 15w-40? I ran HDD 5w-30 for a OCI and got better wear with the AME 15w-40.

PureOne is better in terms of rating than the stratapore, but you have to change it at OEM intervals.

Fuel prices thread...
No changes to prices here in Boise in the last week or so.

6.7 What gauges to buy?
Here is what I would monitor in order on a 6.7 (are you doing deletes?)TransEGTBoostFuel PsiRail PsiRail psi is really not that big of a deal unless your adding a lot of power, or a rail pressure box. The trans idiot light is more of a "buy a new trans" light. Fuel psi tells you the status of your LP and filters, but a lack of pressure really won't kill a CP3 like a VP44. I run EGT, Boost, Fuel, Oil, Drive Pressure, and on my SGII I watch IAT's, Coolant Temp, Load, and Rail Pressure.

Do I Buy a 07
Deletes are always good! A deleted 6.7 can get some crazy good fuel economy!6.7 Injectors are a little more stout that 5.9, due to design and lower cruise (but higher max) rail pressure.

Need some info guys
03's had 3 different motor options, SO (250/460), HO (305/555), and Cali (235/460). There were some 47RE's on 03's so that's something to look at, but I think they were only on SO/Cali motors. The engine mounted lift pump is a weak design, but may already have the retro fit to the tank. The valve seats on 03-04 don't like high EGT's, just something to think about if mods are done.

cleaning a dirty turbo???
Carb cleaner is a good idea, but I would pull it and do it that way so you can get it all out and avoid engine run away.

Tempting myself with an exhaust brake
Yeah it did come out with the HPCR trucks, but wasn't offered as soon as the HPCR came out. There are a few 47RE's behind HPCR's from early 03, and I beleive they are all SO or Cali rated, so I am 99% certain all auto HO's are 48RE equipped.
-
Tempting myself with an exhaust brake
The 48RE came out it 03, but wasn't approved until MY06... thou I still don't understand an auto behind a diesel
-
Tempting myself with an exhaust brake
It's technically back-pressure, but measure then same as drive pressure... but there is nothing to "drive" when your braking.
-
Tempting myself with an exhaust brake
The variable orifice brakes, like the PXRB, get to max psi sooner than the non-variable, like the Jake. On my truck the Jake hits 60 psi at 2500 rpms, and holds it.

DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) for dummies
The C&C 6.7's use it. While I think the filling/cost can be a pain, SCR allows the enigne to be less emissions friendly and have the SCR clean it up.. We all know that a less emissions friendly motor burns less fuel, and makes more power for the same fuel..

Some more mods on their way....
Thanks for the feedback!I am not upgrading my hydraulics, and look foreword to getting it in!
-
Tempting myself with an exhaust brake
It would add to the cost considerably but I am sure there are trans parts you can add that will beef up the required parts if needed..That being said I would not OWN, let alone TOW with, a diesel pickup without an exhaust brake.

Fuel prices thread...
In Boise regular is $3.67, and Diesel is $4.18

Some more mods on their way....
I stopped by the local diesel shop today and got put on the calendar for a Southbend CON-OFE clutch install on the 24th. I was able to slip my stock clutch at will in 6th gear on my normal towing tune, so backed off on the fueling and it's good now, but I am just going to swap it out.
-
What type of clutch?
I'm ordering my OFE this afternoon!

ScanGuage 2
I wish it was known by the ECM on a 3rd gen... I bet if you work with SG you could get a PID for it. I beleive other OBDII gauges show it.
-
ScanGuage 2
That's a good general rule, but there are exceptions like rail pressure is known by the ECM on 03/04, but the SG doesn't seem to be able to read it.

Taking out the 2" level...
I have ran 4 different sets of tires with the spacer and have never even had a hit of what I read described as "death wobble". My steering is true, and tight.. (thou I need to replace the BJ's, I am getting a hint of right pull in the last 7K miles)I would much rather have a 1" progressive rate spring, but they aren't offered and I don't want them bad enough to pay for custom ones. I like a little level for the few reasons I stated, the rake does look good but the oil pan is way too low for my liking, and the tail gate is a bonus (At 6'4" it doesn't effect me much).I've had level kits on most vehicles I own/owned and prefer the look over stock.. it sets them apart. But function dictates I drop this one to only a 1" level.
