stumble on acceleration
I have been pretty lucky with VP's. My first one failed at 75k and it was replaced under warranty. I replace that at 217k. It actually survived a lift pump failure and then I dont know how many miles on an in tank pump producing little to no pressure. Replaced that one with a Blue Chip pump just like yours. 175k miles later and it is still going strong.

I dont believe the Raptor pump comes with the wiring harness. They just plug right into the oe harness.

Injectors
That is my understanding of the connector tube. A bad injector o ring will allow fuel past and into the top the head and down to the crank case.

Injectors
I would think it is the meta they are made of. The ones in mine are extremely hard metal. I check them in a drill to spin them to clean them up on my first install and it did not leave a mark on them. Just my speculation. i have never seen the earlier ones.

Could be. I am going to send them back and have them rebuilt for a spare set. I had no coolant change like I just experienced when I installed them 6 years ago. There was no change at all then. But in the 6 years they have been in there I have seen a slow increase in my running temps. I was running 170 to 175 when they were new to about 184 cruising at the time of the swap.

Need water pump, where to get one
I got one 6 years ago from AA or AZ i believe. Was in a bind and bought the first one I found. Still going strong. When it gives up I would not know who to take to for warranty. Rock auto has 6 different ones from $21 to to $35. http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/dodge,2002,ram+2500+pickup,5.9l+l6+diesel+turbocharged,1440064,cooling+system,water+pump,2208

new injector instll
Well I got take the 150 mile trip to work this morning and the truck did fine in 5X1. plenty of power and almost no smoke. Throttle response was fine but that is cruising around 70 to 75. A quick jaunt thru town leaving home and arriving at the job site and its not acting a whole lot different than the RV's on 5X3. Not sure what to think for now but I am going to drive a little longer and see what happens. The weird thing for me is this is the first time in many years that my truck ECT temps have held at at 190*. Did that all the way to the job until parked and let it idle. It was about 43* and it dropped to about 175 180. My truck has run cold for many years. For the most part 184 has been normal for me cruising of late. It even went to about 195 before it popped open. Not sure how to explain it or what to think about it.

Have not tried level 2 but thinking its going to smoke also. I dont mind a little smoke the RV's did just a little when you got on it but it cleared right up. Not so with the 50's. I have to turn the fuel level down to one to be close to that.

new injector instll
I was pretty sure one of them was leaking diesel into the crankcase. I have some oil leaks that need to be fixed and all of a sudden I was not needing to add any oil. I figured if I had a bad o ring I might as well replace the injectors since they had 150k on them. Going to send the RV's back and get them rebuilt and save them for later. I did have 2 damaged orings on the cross over tubes. One was on #6 and sure that one was leaking externally making the rear main look worse than it was. The other had a nick in it but and was weeping a little. Fast forward to this morning and I did loose oil on the trip up here where i have not been losing for a couple weeks. I am glad I did it now just dont like the smoke. It is almost gone on fuel level one but on three It is pretty big cloud until the turbo spools.

Thoughts / Prayers to those that live below Oroville Dam
i have been listening to this on the radio while driving to work this morning. I hope they can avoid the catastrophe.

I love this place but you do have to be a little crazy at times to fit. Sounds like you and your buddy the squirrel fit right in.

Shuddering at the 18s
Not trying to speak for Mike but he does have a 5 speed manual, but he does help folks with these issues quite often. Me, I have a manual also but have been experiencing something similar of late. Occasionally a vibration at idle. Almost like an injector or cylinder not firing completely. Hard to describe though it seems to disappear under throttle for the most part but not always. When it happens, under hard throttle, it seems like the shudder you describe. Just installed new injectors and I believe it is gone. Not sure yet because I have only made one good run in it and due to the smokiness I did not pay attention to the other problems. I just kept trying to tune out the smoke. As I remember all was smooth under throttle no matter how hard I got into it. Anyway, not sure that is part of your problem just my experience.

EPA orders VW recall on Not So Clean Diesels
I just hope that some of the chaos and change finds a foothold and does not just disappear like some many others who have gone to DC and just ended up blending in. I dont think the DJT is going to disappear that quickly. I have personally been looking for a leader of this earth to come along and make the hard decisions we are all going to have to face in the near future. I might get lucky and miss out on paying the piper but some of you and my children will not. There is a rather large butcher bill that has yet to be paid from 2008. About 15 trillion or more. @KATOOM, I do not mean to take away from the religious aspects of what you said. While I am not a very religious man, I do believe that we all will have stand tall before God before it is all said and done.

EPA orders VW recall on Not So Clean Diesels
I voted for Trump for the change he would bring. He was not by any means the choice I wanted but the other choice was going to give it all away. I have the privilege of working for men who have a vested interest in the company suceding. We grew crazily large back in 2000. Hired any body who walked in the door and it damn near broke the company. With the man the took us down that path gone the remaining owners hocked there houses and kept us alive. They took a big hit in pay but kept the rest working. They could have closed the doors and went on to bigger and better things. Then in 08 when everything tanked they kept us going again although this time we all took a hit in pay department. Just saying this so you know not every one is out for the almighty dollar. True the owners of my company make alot of money but they and I try to bring all that work with us along. We are not successful if they are not. I see CEO s at companies that dont do good and walk away with small fortunes. That sickens me, they have no skin in the game. At least I feel the men I work for have skin in the game and do care about the people that work with and for them. It is my privilege for me to work for them. I understand where you are coming from and not trying to take away from it.

04 keeps eating turbos
I am thinking that if the oil pressure is that low while trying to cool the turbo off, maybe a coking problem with hot oil or at least the lack of any cooling oil. Just the neophyte's opinion,

By the time the rich man runs out of cash it will to late for the rest of us.

I will do that tomorrow, As far as I know the Comp just boost fools in the off mode. Smoke with the 50's is about equal in fuel level one as the RV's are in fuel level 3.

Not sure what anybody thinks about this until they see the squirrel sitting in the tree with small camp fire. Kindling Baby, Kindling.

As in turning the Comp off? I do have some small boost leaks that need to be addressed. My boost did go up just a hair, I saw 29 to 30 where before the install I saw about 28. I replaced the gasket on the grids. I have a leaky boot on the intercooler, drivers side. Small bubbles with about 15 psi with static air pressure and another on the intake where I have my boost gauge is attached with a boost bolt. Probably should do some checking out of this issue. I had a Banks stinger plus on here for many years and saw 32 to 34 psi. No boost bolt, The waste gate that came with it opens around 33 psi. Cant quite get to that these days. Even with the boost being down some I cant imagine why the 50's smoke so much more than the RV's. Always ran them on 3X3 or 5X3 with little to no smoke.

new injector instll
Well I just got thru installing a new set of DAP 50hp Injectors. The whole process went well. The most fun was dealing #6 and to a lesser degree #5. I did go the extra mile on cleaning up the ends of the fuel lines after reading all that @hex0rz went thru. Used scotch brite pads to polish them up real good before re installing them. So far I have a little weeping, just enough to dampen the head at the injectors, but no leaks beyond that. I figure I am going to ride that out a little and see it goes away as in the past. As far as the injectors go, they run quieter and deliver a little more power than the RV's they replace. They are however smokier and a little hotter than the RV's. The only way to keep them from smoking is to turn the fuel level down on the comp to level 1. Thats on level 3 or 5 on the power setting. Not happy with that part. I have not had a chance to talk with DAP about that as of yet. Will do some time next week. I did replace my valve cover gasket as I suspected it was leaking on the rear of the head. It seems to have been the case since I let the truck idle for 20 minute or so with little oil hitting the ground. I will know better after going to work tomorrow. The old gasket had oil all over the outside of it at the back. One thing to add to this is if anyone is worried about running 2 stroke or bio fuel the old ones were just about as clean as the new ones except for the shiny metal on the new ones. The RV's had 150k on them. I will take some better pictures of them tomorrow. Cant get the camera to focus on them good tonight. v's

What else will eat a turbo that quick other than oil flow? Just a neophyte asking questions.

Protect your lift pump
Thanks. I was looking at a harness in my shop and could not remember what it was for. Now I remember. Kept thinking it was for the booster pump I p pnut after the in tank pump was installed.

Guest house flooded again...
Just a thought, knock the roof off and build a second floor on the block walls. Then just turn the bottom floor into an open air stream under porch. It dont get much more redneck than that. The steam might evem keep the beer cold.

Ordering replacement steering soon
I figured you were since this is in the 3rd gen section. The 00-02 are different from the earlier 2nd gens. Matter of fact the companies that make the the lifetime warranty ball joints for 2nd gens dont make them for the 00-02. Something about the alignment of them makes them wear quicker I believe. Anyway those are to expensive for my taste and you have a 3rd gen anyway.
