  1. Where did you get torque specs? Every thing I've ever read was to torque in sequence 59 Ft.lbs,77 ft lbs, recheck at 77 ft lbs then 1/4 turn, nothing at 125 or 135 ft lbs.
  2. As far as I know it's the 2wd's that are hard to find, With that said $1200 is cheap, depending on miles, condition, year.
  3. Taxes,Regulations from EPA,UNIONS! --- Update to the previous post... Try Frieghtliner dealer.
  4. I ran a Hypertech for 5 yrs, switched between stages several times before buying a used Edge EZ cheap on Ebay. Never had a problem and really don't see a difference in performance between the two(even ran both together)still keep it to pull codes, but hav'nt needed to do that in awhile. Really doubt that the Hypertech is his problem.
  5. New beefed up block $1500 from frieghtliner, bearings, rings, gaskits $1000,headwork $400. Rebuilt mine, used same pistons, cam(guts, hard parts) one week! at 450k,pulls better now she's got broke in!
  6. Pulled a set of doubles thruogh the tunnel(vail pass) and had an AWD suv flip in front of me ,people were OK so I did'nt stop. They were way over the safe limit.
  7. In the midwest Diesel Specialties is a Bosch rebuilder, only two locations Omaha NE,Sioux City IA. Bought My reman VP44 at 388k,still going strong.
  8. One thing about 2wd,it gives no false sense of security on snow/ice.
  9. Why did'nt cummins want to deal with you? Call a local Frieghtliner dealer,(DON'T tell them it's for a Dodge Pickup),rather give them your engine#,ask for a price on a block,Overhaul kit, short block, long block. Why do you need new pistons?Did you read my post above? --- Update to the previous post... You told them this was in a Dodge truck,Right? Always call with engine# until you build repoir with you cummins dealer.
  10. I've been happy with a used one I bought, but I think I'll make sure it's sealed good against moisture, cause I can see that happening.
  11. For stock one call your local Frieghtliner dealer with engine# I bought one 4-5 yrs ago for $175,then grind all the slag/imperfections(help remove hot spots) from the casting, since then I've put 500k plus on this manifold.
  12. Then WHY does someone manufacture one for this engine?
  13. Just put iin my NW has humidity, dry heat in AZ,that's why all the old folks with arthitis go down there to live.
  14. pulling a 16k load in 110 degree heat it probly worked, especially in the hills.
  15. Pulled mine 3 times 2 to try welding crack 1 to install rebuilt with new block from frieghtliner $2900 in parts and head work 3 days of my time:cheers:
  16. You can buy a new block(reinforced by water jacket) from frieghtliner for around $1500,Overhaul kit(rings, bearings, gaskits, seals)for about $1000,get the head done for $400,use your original hard parts(pistons, crank, rods, timing gears, cam) Then your labor.
  17. This cracking is due to a defective casting(to thin by the water jacket) Vibration cause's this crack(this engine vibrate's like an ultra sound cleaner)
  18. I think I said that, but on one point YOU DO NOT have to be the original buyer,as long as you bought before the 5yrs/100k:smart:
  19. Unless ARP studs are different specs, You should torque in sequence 59ft.lbs then torque in sequence to 77 ft.lbs then recheck in sequence 77 ft.lbs then 1/4 turn (90 degrees) in sequence:2cents: one last thought did you get you gasket from Cummins?
  20. I recieved a postcard regarding a settled class action on the 53 block, documentation is required to claim a max $500(i know not much) but the crack would have to occured after the 5/100 warranty and before 250k:spend:,but i believe that is you have a 53 block you will recieve one.
  21. The marking for the 53 block had two place's it was possibly marked, driver hidden by wire loop or below oil cooler. Document and save pictures,I just recieved notification of a settled class action that will pay up to $500 dollars. If your truck was originally installed with a 53 block you should get a postcard.
  22. I know you can by bearing kits online, like off Ebay for $500-$600. I've Replaced the rear bearing, but from my research this is a tranny I would'nt try to rebuild myself.
  23. Change the fluid,Penzoil makes Sychromesh that meets spec for NV5600(half the price of dealer) Manual call for 5 qt's put 6 qt's in.
