  3. Reading some of this makes me glad I have a 2nd gen. Maybe not as powerful on paper but I have pulled our newly acquired 5th wheel (11k lbs.) With no trouble. I could tell it's there and the truck worked a little but handled it well. Besides admit it, .........she is sexy

  5. No pics? I drive them nearly everyday. I haul them to the dealers. I admit they are nice but then I look at the sticker price. Crazy what they ask for a new truck now days compared to 20 years ago. I'm sure the warranty is a big plus but I like the look of the 2nd gen trucks, lack of emissions is a plus as well. They have come a long way in power, I will give you that. The torque of the new ones is incredible. I hauled a new 3500 crew cab SRW yesterday. Very nice. Enjoy your new ride!
  6. Off topic (sorry): @Mopar1973Man, what ever happened to the guy that rebuilt your manual? Thought he was going to join us here and offer some of his knowledge? Or did I miss something? Just curious. Wasn't trying to hijack.

  8. I short shift as well. Usually around 2000 rpm when just daily driving with the truck empty. I have seen guys in the past remove one of the rear wheels on each side for better winter traction but it looks ridiculous.
  9. Do the smaller tires break loose a lot easier in winter when you don't want the to? Just curious, with the less mass and the torque of these trucks it seems like you could spin out pretty easy. Mine is a dually and I notice by having the rear weight spread over 4 tires rather than 2 creates a traction issue sometimes in slick conditions.
  10. I filled up yesterday in a genoa ohio for $3.39/gal. I haul dodge cars/trucks along with jeep wranglers and gladiators. I haven't seen any 2022's yet but I'll keep an eye out. Dodge/chrysler/jeep has shifted the freight around which changed alot of things on our side for hauling purposes so I may not be seeing the trucks come into toledo much longer. May even be looking at layoffs again. Ugh.
  11. Here they typically have cones across the lane and the flagger behind them. Very visible. They have also been using more of these portable traffic light setups for things that will be down to one lane on say a 2 lane state route and have to be one lane 24 hours. That way there is traffic control all hours but unmanned.

  15. @Silverwolf2691, thanks for the link. Seems like the mopar kit would work on an '01. I don't use my truck as hard or rough as some but I would like to upgrade thing when I can. Heavy duty parts usually works out to be longer life in my situation. With recently buying an 11k pound fifth wheel I want the steering to be tight and strong.
  16. Here in N.W. ohio it's been a rather wet summer and early fall. Temps are in the 70's and haven't dipped much blow 60 at night yet. I expect it to change fast this year. Sucks to, had a chimney fire last spring, haven't been able to inspect and repair it yet so as a quick fix we will be switching back to propane for this winter. Chimney probably needs a liner installed. Just don't have the funds for that right now in this up and down economy. I haul cars and the auto industry is up and down with this chip shortage. Never know if we'll be busy next week or looking at possible lay offs
  17. Now to find something to remove the black streaks and discoloration. The outside has been neglected, paint is dingy and a bit rough. I'd like to at least get it clean for now. Gonna be winterizing soon.
  18. So the taper of the tie rod ends is the same for 03-08 as a 2001? I read somewhere which parts swap between years but can't find it again.
  19. @Mopar1973Man, the wife really likes the open floor plan and big kitchen. Been looking around at options for lifting the rv. Dexter axle makes a spring over kit, I think that may be the way to go at least to start. If needed, could a person cut down the factory blocks under the springs on the truck? I don't want to unless absolutely necessary but just a thought and only if the spring over conversion isn't enough. Really don't want to have to mod the truck unless it's absolutely needed.
  20. Anyone want to see pics of the inside? Here ya go. Inside is in very good condition, outside its a little dirty. She has the typical black streaks of an older rv. I'll be trying some "streak-x" to remove them and clean up the outside better.
  21. I was thinking about the spring over axle conversion. Might be my best/safest bet. That should give me about 4" of lift on the rv to level it out better. May not be enough to be perfect but a step in the right direction.
  22. A few weeks ago I pulled a buddy's 5'er to the campground for him since his truck was down. Well, long story short, he decided to sell and I bought it. A 1994 coachman 360RK imperial. Very nice camper. Took it out the first time this weekend and we love it. So much space compared to our '89 jayco 29' bumper pull. We camped in Quincy MI. Where my son and his wife have a seasonal spot. My other son came up and we all had a great time with 6 of our 14 grandkids here as well. The camper is an older model but in very good shape. Only issue I'd like to figure out without having to do major mods is the camper is high in front when hooked to my truck (2001 dodge ram 3500 4x4 dually). See pic below. It looks worse than it is in the pic, I'll get a better one later.
  23. @Evan, would that steering kit in the first link be a direct bolt on? No mods to the knuckles or anything else?
