has anyone made their own exhaust brake? I've always thought about using a exhaust cut out (like for use on gassers to dump out before mufflers.) because a exhaust brake is basically a butterfly valve in the exhaust. the biggest problem i could see is the valve not opening back up because of the exhaust pressure. what is everyone's opinion?

Guys, I am having some issues about hooking up some of my guages for my 2001 Cummins Quad Cab 4x4. I bought 4 guages (Isspro for my fuel pressure and Auto Meter for the rest) from Cummin Performance Diesel through Jamie. Spent plenty of time of the phone with him an he was extremely helpful. I purchased a trans and exhaust temp guage, boost and fuel pressure guages. I have some questions on the exhaust hookup for the probe. Instructions say to drill into the manifold and tap with a 1/8 npt, not a problem, 1. Wondering if the temp probe would be better in the 4" exhaust right after the turbo vs. the manifold? 2. How do you keep any tap you put in the manifold or exha…

I am finally getting around to doing the relay fix for my 98.5 dodge. Don't have trouble in the winter but do in the summer. In the center under the hood in a loom of wires in front of the firewall, is the hot wire going to the lift pump in these. If so it isn't yellow/white. I'm trying to find an easy place to cut it to run the wires to the relay. I can't get my fat arms and fingers to work right at the lift pump. I am still running the stock type pump, the wires at the pump are way to short. Thanks

OK fellow Cummins fans, I've got a big problem that many days of web searching has not found an answer to.I recently replaced the VP$$ and added an Airdog 100. Now my truck will start fine when cold and runs great. The trouble comes when I try to start it when hot. The engine will fire immediately and idle for a couple of seconds then it stumbles and dies. I can re-fire it immediately with the same result. If I try to start it within 5 minutes of shutdown all is well. Beyond that it's a no go until the engine is cold again. Does this condition fall under the hot start banner? Would the LP cutoff relay mod help me? Idle PSI is about 17psi on my test gauge. I don't have an …

Thanks You can see a picture of the heater I here: http://hotstart.com/home/products/tank-style-engine-preheaters/small-tank-style-heaters-tps-models/

Came back from a 1900 mile vacation with the 30ft trailer. Weight w/truck approx 17000lbs to 18000. Part of the trip from Dubious, WY, to about Moran WY, 5 % and a 6 % grades pulls, at 2 to 10 mph for approx. 20 miles , 6900 ft to 9600 ft. This was all road construction, mud, holes, no pavement and a pilot car. The transmission, hit 240+ and the truck at 220. I am running syn. in everything. I pulled over were I could and cooled off at the summit. For 1800 miles the truck ran great. My question would a fan on the transmission cooler help or ad a fan and extra cooler help and which one. I will be going again. Sorry for the long post. Thanks

I have been involved in electronics as a hobby for over 50 years.I am a Amateur Extra Class Ham Radio Operator. Now that said.I have learned one thing. Heat is the enemy of electronics. No way around it. Especially solid state stuff.I wasn't aware of how much electronics are in the vp44, and I don't know how much are in other injector pumps.Today I drove on a trip that was 35 miles one way, and came back. Ok no big trip. I drove at 52 mph, and tested fuel milage, and fuel pressure to my pump. Milage turned out to be about 25 mpg, and fuel pressure was around 12 psi. for the trip. When I came home I made a routine inspection under the hood, and I reached down and touched th…

My mileage is normally ~16 all around hwy & some city. Yesterday @ 70mph on the interstate the overhead said 16.4. Overhead on my truck is usually close to hand calculated. Regardless. I want more. I have a new SO MWFI VP.Let's start with making sure we're up to spec then mod. What get out of adjustment or wears & reduces mileage? Will start by checking:adjusting valves, cleaning IAT & MAP sensors

I'm new to 2 stroke oil but I'm trying to come up with a good and efficient means of dosing it. I've got a gallon jug in the tool box but would like to be able to accurately measure what I'm putting in. Preferably a sealable container so it doesn't get contaminated throwing it back in the box. What are y'all using? P.S. getting a package from dap today. Injectors going in this afternoon.

Been noticing mist or smoke in the headlights. Yes I yanked the bottle off long ago. Hoping valve seals is all. It doesnt use any coolant still runs the same also doesnt use oil. I am 1/4" over the hash mark on the dipstick but I doubt that's it. But who knows. Odometer reads 323k not sure I trust it. Never had more than a valve adjust. Is it time to upgrade the head? Hoping its semi normal and I'm just noticing since about 90% of my driving is in the dark right now. This is first year in about 8 that I've used her for work.

I am not the original owner. I didn't install the FASS HD. The pickup looks stock, and I can't see a draw straw. I am thinking of putting one in as I need to replace my fuel level sending unit anyway. Is there any way to tell? After looking through google images and on Rockauto for pictures, I really couldn't tell any big difference. All the photos I see have a 4 prong plug. The only big difference is that some of the in tank pumps have a squat hockey puck looking filter on the top of the pickup.
