Hello, I’ve got a 2001 3/4 ton 4wd auto quad cab diesel. About a week ago I changed the lower and upper dash, heater core and clock spring. My problems are the following items are not powering up. Cruise control light will not come on, no lights in dash or cluster, (all gauges in instrument cluster work, odometer and trip meter work) ODB connector no power, dome lights not working (though they could’ve been out before the dash change). I’ve checked fuses for continuity in the fuse box in the dash. I haven’t checked to see if they have power. I’ve gone over all of the connections that i disturbed during the dash replacement. The three connections on the b…

So for my 99 build I decided to buy new head bolts from PureDieselPower that are Cummins OEM head bolts for 98.5-15 and according to the gauge from Cummins they're stretched?????? Here's a picture of the gauge and if you're reading it like I am, here's a picture of the BRAND NEW head bolt I just got out of the Cummins labeled box and according to the gauge its stretched! Am I missing something? Not using the gauge right? I'm getting aggravated because I haven't done anything to the motor in awhile because I've been waiting on these bolts and apparently they're stretched!

Ok, well, as some of you know, my trucks tcase pooped the bed on the way to my new job. It's home now, safe at my friends shop. I'm 900 miles away though, so I can't do anything but think about what I need to fix, what I should do, etc. Now obviously the tcase is priority. Once that's fixed, she's good to go. But given that the last two times this truck has gone on a long trip and left me stranded, I'm leery about some things. The truck has 265000 on it (I think). I think the vp is the original. Not sure if the previous owner had it rebuilt, or replaced, or anything. He said he had the transmission rebuilt, but that was an obvious lie. So I choos…

I should get my 01 running this weekend. It's been sitting 11 months without any fuel and jacked up. (I was in process of upgrading fuel system and other things in life got in the way) Fuel was bought couple months before I perked it. So fuel (25 gallons) is over 1 year old and was stored in 5 gallon plastic cans in car port. And I also changed fuel tanks. Installing an Air Dog 100 and a carter pump as a back up, fuel has been cycled through filters probably 2 or 3 times. The "new to me" fuel tank not as clean as my old one (but no more sump and I'll never have one again) Because "new" tank still has stuff in it even after getting as clean as I could…

My buddy asked me if i knew of a product that would help him, and his transmission have better performance. He is having problems with his truck burning out, and said there is some kind of load management system on our transmissions that doesnt allow us to rev up enough to light them up. I heard advertisemnts of top speed eliminators and a smarty doing something for the tranny, but i dont exactly know what they do for it. Does anybody got a clue on this subject. Thanks for the info!!!

Hey guys, I just finished a bunch of work on my truck and dealing with some issues I’m not sure are related or not. For background I Pulled engine and trans, resealed engine, new poly motor mounts, new RV275 injectors, new VP and alternator, rebuilt the 47re w Goerend VB and rebuilt transfer case, head studs, resealed AC, rebuilt turbo, new fuel lines, intake and exhaust gaskets, basically went through the whole powertrain. What’s happening now is I’m not getting a tach signal and the truck sounds like it’s missing at idle and there’s a sharp hiss/tick in the exhaust like a misfire. I’m wondering where the sensor is for the tach signal because I’ve checked…

I know that a sucker is born every minute. Ran into a old gent today while filling up. He was driving a F350 and told me he had been putting 1 Old Fashion Moth Ball per 3 gal of fuel since he had 8k miles on his truck. The truck now has 110k miles on it with no problems. Claimed he increased his mpg by 2-3 mpg's. I did some research online and found more negative than positive comments. I did find a formula of 1 ball per 4 gals. Is anyone doing this with a Dodge Diesel ???

So I definetly need to replace the lines that run from the hard lines in the engine bay to the cooler up front on the radiator. Right now they are old rubber lines. But I want to use steel braided hose and some nice fittings. The guy at the trans shop recommended 8am fittings. My question is are their fittings on the hard lines that are in the engine bay by the crank case vent or are they just like barbed on the end? That's the only thing I can't figure out. Thanks guys

Does anyone know what the VP44 requires in Gallons Per Hour fuel flow on a stock engine? Doing a search gives conflicting info with nothing available from Bosch.Filters are rated in flow amounts per hour, not the psi.Mike, you said 45 GPH is enough, forgive me for beginning to wonder about all this, but, even our stock filter on the engine may not be rated for enough flow. Look at the restrictive banjo fuel system. It wouldn't be the first time I could be wrong on something like this, But why isn't this information available on a Google search from Bosch? Some guys are saying we need to increase the size of the return line too.

Totally stock right now, except airdog 100. Will the switch in MPG mode work if I have no idea if my 2001 has ever been programmed on for high idle? If I need "re-flashed" can quadzilla do this or only smarty or anything else. Last resort being the dealer? MPG...mine is two wheel drive. I keep reading about people saying they are getting well over 21 mpg. Best MPG I've ever gotten (since 2005), even using cruise control has been 18 1/2 (long hand, not overhead reading) With switch in MPG mode what's a good "guessimate" people have seen in MPG? Thanks

So I been listening to my fan clutch staying locked in for weeks even when Its cool out and it sounds like a jet trying to take off. So I go get a new one this morning and same thing. I dont get it. My old truck didnt have this issue. My old truck you could hear it when it reached a hot temp it would lock in. I dont think the old clutch did this in the winter I would have noticed. I stayed on the throttle up to 3k rpm and it still locked in.

My trucks shifts good and firm but if im in 3rd and slow down to 10mph or just below it wont downshift to second and sure is a slug taking off again. It will go down to first if I stop completely or 2nd if I all but stop but I would like it to shift to 2nd if I slow down to 10-20 mph. Do I need to adjust the cable or what?

A couple of weeks ago, I was tool'n around town and realized my Quad XZT was on high performance setting. I switched back to the low setting which I run all of the time. However, shortly after switching down, the engine light came on. The code was P0237. Since then, I have hardly driven the truck. Today, I disconnected the Quad XZT and drove the truck to run some errands. After a few starts, the engine light went off, and when I checked codes, only the P1698(I think?) was displayed. Here's my take on this. The truck was never over 40mph when the XZT was switched to the hi setting. It was dumping fuel with very little boost, and the MAP sensor thought the boost wa…

So my main issue is a knock. It’s only when warm and don’t always do it. I’ve also noticed higher egts and a decent amount of black smoke which is supriseing for stock injectors? Also seems very gutless but that’s problably from stepping down in injector size. Can anyone suggest some remedy’s for my issues before I sell it and go buy another that runs right?

Hey guys, Have a few questions about my truck. This site is awesome by the way. Very helpful for us backyard mechanics. I own a 2nd gen 24 valve with a VP. Since buying the truck last year I've restored the truck cosmeticly and mechanically. I've come to the point in my project, where I'd like to do some top end modifications. Namely removing the head and rebuilding it. The main question I have ( any other information would be greatly appreciated ) is.. what is the procedure for removing push rods? My concern is that I understand that at the bottom side of the pushrods, there are tappets. I'm picturing in my mind, once I pull up on the pushro…
