This is a discussion forum of the 1998.5 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins 24 Valve Turbo Diesel power train and drive line system. This includes all sub-system including wiring, fuel, oil, exhaust, air, transmission, computers and sensors.

    47re shifts in and out of all gears does not do it first thing in the morning when when everything gets all warmed up it will jump in between gears and 1-2 will be super late. Fresh rebuild with only 2000 miles on it. Replaced gov pressure sensor and transducer. Sometimes it will go away for a while if I do an apps reset but not always. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

    I want to start off by saying a huge thank you to @Mopar1973Man for providing this excellent resource for the ram community! I had the P0122 code and the truck would just randomly turn off after a few minutes of running. Would happen whether parked, driving, on a hill, on flat gound, under acceleration, and deceleration. It didn't matter what the truck was doing, it would just turn off. It started off doing intermittently and then just got worse and worse to where it happens quite frequently.     My 2001 4x4 is having an issue with the driver side front turn signal it flashes fast and very dim and the light under the hood also flashes along with it. The rear signal is nice and bright but also flashes fast. I've replaced the bulbs and nothing. I'm sure it's a ground issue but I have no idea where to even begin. HELP for the love of god!

    Is it imperative that a drb III scan tool be used for this? I'd there another way this can be tested? I've been looking at the power probe hook and a obd scan tool as an alternative? Thoughts?

    Hello everyone, I have a spare HX35 laying on the shelf and I would like to get it rebuilt to more of a towing turbo. Does anyone know or recommend a shop that can rebuild turbos? Closer to CNY the better. Thinking about getting housing machined for a 60 or 62mm wheel. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Tim

    my truck hesitates or shudders from 1800 to 2200. FP 20 idle 13 wot. is seams to only do it if the edge is above lv 0. if you let off to idle it idles ruff almost like a lope if you rev it up it gos away. its diving me nuts need help!

  8. I've been wanting to get the high idle enabled in my truck, dealer wants more than I think it's worth so next option is to get a smarty and plug it in which will enable this feature. I know DAP will "rent" them out for this but you basically buy it then return it which ties up $650+ until they get it back. Figured I'd ask if someone has one I could borrow to get this enabled.

    Recently my oil factory gauge drops to zero, and the check gauges comes on and the warning buzzer goes off. This can happen 3x in 1/4 mile or once in 30 miles. Checked for codes, checked oil level, recent oil change about 1500 miles ago. I am thinking it is the oil pressure sender going bad. Just wondering if there is something I am missing. Did a search on the site and can't find anything on the oil pressure sender. I have been thinking about a 4th gauge on the pillar. This might be a good time for an oil pressure gauge! Any comments are appreciated.

I've noticed in my truck and when I had my 5 speed Mustang GT years ago, that when you let off the throttle somewhat suddenly, without pressing the clutch at all, the whole vehicle seems to jolt quickly. Say for example, I pull out and shift normally to 4th gear, then a car cuts me off, and I immediately release the throttle without clutching at all. The whole truck jolts. Doesn't make any clunks or bad sounds. But I was just curious as to what this is and if it does any harm. It gets progressively worse the higher the speed of the truck and RPM's.   11. So, for the last few weeks my truck seems to be louder than normal. Almost sounds like a knocking but only hear it in lower RPM limits (less 1200 rpm). I don't know if its just me or not. I don't have any CEL on or any codes that I can see with my Bluetooth OBD2 scanner. I don't see any smoke and the truck runs good. I did start getting diesel at a different station (Chevron instead of Fred Meyer). Could it be a difference in diesel? Could it be colder weather? It does it with the Quad at 0, 2, 3 or up.     Ever sense the Body shop/insurance replaced my Complete Fan assembly after the Accident 2yrs ago my fan runs constantly. "I mean I never hear IT lock in or out even in the middle of winter 10f-15f degrees i can start it up and fan is fully engaged and when you take down the road it sounds like standing beside a jet airplane before takeoff .. after talking to a few people, I'm pretty sure they installed a aftermarket POS on my truck from keystone auto.. ARE there anything i can do to adjust or re-calibrate it.. rburks

    1998 24v 47re trans. 100k miles on the clock. Edge EZ, bhaf, and exhaust. I am having some slipping which which I notice when I roll on the throttle at highway speeds in overdrive with the TC locked up. I was convinced it was pushing through the lockup clutch and I was about ready to order a TC and valvebody. Now I’m not 100% convinced that will solve my issue and thinking maybe it’s my overdrive gear that’s slipping?? Is it common for overdrive to slip in these trans? I can turn off OD but then I have trouble even telling if and/or when the TC even locks up. Does anyone have any tips on how to really narrow it down?

    Not really sure where to post this.. I work at a dodge dealer and can get any factory part that is still available for 50% off the list price.. P.m. me your vin number and the part you want, Ill see what i can do.. Any part u need ie turbos, radiators, heater cores, ac evaps, anything.. Cant do it for everyone, but first few guys no problem. Love this website, everyone helping each other out with our trucks. Id Like to help out a few guys get some parts cheap.. Timmy

    So I just had to replace the engine harness in my 1999 24v Dodge 2500 and after i hooked it up it would start dropping out of lock up, Thought negative battery cables were the problem replaced those and it still happens. I'll be going down the road and itll happen my rpms will go up about 200rpms and I loose speed. Thanks for any input really annoying having to drive 50 miles a day to work on the interstate with it doing this.

    Heading out to work today. Got about 1/3 of the way to work. Hit a small hill and suddenly the truck wouldn't shift up. Couldn't go much faster than 30mph. Trying to go faster, the transmission would hunt back and forth like it was going from 3 to 2 and back. So i pulled over and thought I toasted the transmission somehow. Got to calling around and local shop wanted me to limp it in. I eventually got to a down hill and it up shifted for me. After that it was okay to drive. Dunno how that happened. But i played it safe and still went to the shop. The owner put his scan tool on the truck and said my output speed sensor was bad. …

  19. Well since most of my truck is now straight water since the issue I had this morning. I have been researching the coolant for my truck and find out it is the plain ethylene glycol (Green) antifreeze. Low silicate and meets requirements of ASTM D-3306 and ASTM D-4985. My only question is because of reading about cavitation errosion issues with diesels. Is the 98.5-02 Cummins ok with this antifreeze alone or do I need to add an SCA additive to the mix??

I got it used off line and guy said he was upgrading to a 3 pod. well I got ready to trial fit it and the speaker is not in correct place and this is one that fits over the factory one you drill holes etc to mount it on top of. errrrrghhhhhhh! Man this makes me mad what year would this have fit on its same demensions as factory as far as lenth width just speaker hole different spot so this makes it impossible to mount on factory one! Any options? Thanks CD
