Hello folks. My typical 2nd gen doge tranny is nearing it's end. I'm thinking about doing an Auto to Manual swap to hopefully save on money. (Built tranny's are quite expensive) Currently, the truck sits around 500 horsepower, but will probably go up as I add a twin turbo kit and injectors in the future. Can someone share a parts list of the things I would need for the conversion from auto to manual, including the cost of the parts (Except transmission)? Also, would the ECM need to be swapped or reprogrammed? I need to know everything that has to be done for the swap before I decide to begin the project. If any of you believe I should stick to the Auto, what co…

Okay, so I have been wondering if my sensors were any good. So, I only managed to pull my IAT sensor and it only looked a little dirty. Nothing like what mike has in his pictures.I was gonna use a DMM to measure the ohms according to the temp. and I could not even get a reading from it. I checked the DMM and the DMM is fine. Is the IAT sensor bad?I did not have a socket to pull the MAP sensor. I need to go buy one but I'm confused about the size. Its definitely not 1 1/16".So I called o'reilly's and they quoted me $30 for the IAT sensor and $114 for the MAP sensor!Anyone also know if I can get these for cheaper? Would either one of them cause my mpg's to fall as well??

Well I thought the truck was running good... It sat last night and most of today and I went to start her and she fired first crank but idle extremely erratic and had a nasty lope and unloaded a mass cloud of white smoke... New injectors went in a week and a half ago and all seemed well until the lift pump failed. I'm thinking the LP took the VP too. Fuel pressure went straight to 20 psi so that's not a issue. Ran the key trick and got P1693 and then -------- and then P Done. checked for codes and found nothing.

  4. I am wanting to do a 24 valve cummins swap into a truck and i was wanting to know if a factory wiring harness could be modified to work without the original truck. I have been told that the 98.5'-00' trucks and the 01'- 02' have slightly different wiring. My question is has anyone done a stand alone wiring harness or does anyone have a diagram of a factory harness that has been turned into a stand alone harness?

Experienced a dead pedal for the first time heading up the Blue Mountains last month on a trip to Seattle. Didn't recur again for a day, but occurred periodically on the return trip home. Seems to be under light load - last freeze frame shows 8.2%. No CEL, but found the DTC P0216 when I plugged in the scanner today, no other codes. I have 2 questions: First, I'm trying to follow the article (P0216 Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure) and properly diagnose the problem. Where is "See FUEL INJECTION PUMP TIMING in ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS - RAM PICKUP - DIESEL article." located? I can't find it anywhere here. Second question: Does it matter? From what I'm re…

hey all, got an 02 dodge ram 2500 that the only way i can get to fire up is to break #1 and 3 injector lines loose. The truck will then crank, run about 10-15 sec and die.. Lil history, truck died while driving it , the pick up pump was replaced(not by me) and brought to me with the problem it has now.. I checked voltage at the pump and have 12 volts, checked it as the truck dies and no voltage loss.. Checked the fuel pressure at the injector pump. Fuel pressure is 12 psi and also does not drop as the truck starts to die.. Found code p0216, found your vp44 trouble shooting articlefollowed it to the wire jump and by it the injector pump was bad.. replace pump, truck still …

  7. My truck finally runs again. My vp failed and was rigged with an external transistor years ago. Then the dreaded delayed wait to start issues for a long time then the ECM finally died a few months ago. It only ran in the hot wire test mode, idle only. So I made a microcontroller project to do it all. 3 hardware versions and 7 software versions and a lot of simulation and testing later I hooked it up for real today, turned the key and it started and ran, pretty good actually. I'm very happy😀. Still a long way to go though. The mysterious VP44 has been cracked.😎

Well seasoned school bus mechanic tells me when they get somebody new changing oil it's only about 2 weeks till they stop filling up new filter with oil before threading on new filter without prefilling. Interesting part to me was no failures that he knows of. I fill mine but wondering if really necessary. Other than manual says so. Do you prefill?

Disconnect the VP44 wiring harness connector completely. Connect pin 6 on the VP44 to battery ground. Connect pin 7 on the VP44 to battery positive. A diagram of the sockets on the VP44 wiring harness connector is included below. The pins on the VP44 will be the reverse of this diagram (a mirror image). Make sure you know which pins are which... numbers are molded on the connector and possibly on the VP44 (I can't remember). You must insure you don't cause any short circuits or make connections to the wrong pins on the VP44. I would also strongly advise you to add a 15 amp fuse between the VP44 and battery positive. As soon as you make the last con…

Please help I'm at witts end. I just got 3/98 24valve and I'm trying to find out why it starts it right up, idles great and when you give it throttle in park for drive don't matter Motor doesn't go above 1500rpms . Got a code reader and it came up with what seems to be Dreaded P1689 code Which far as.I can find is something NO ONE agrees on of the cause!! I found this site from another diesel guy and I link I was given was here for 24valve 50\51 engine/obdii-error-codes94/P1689no-communication-between-ecm-and-vp44-r35/ I went through link and was able to get all way to #5 test which is checking ohms between #2terminal on FORM which is Supposed to be a "Whi…

  16. I just replaced my intake manifold gasket, checked/adjusted the valves, and swapped in some injectors (on the truck in my sig....). The truck starts, runs, and drives, but I have a check engine light with the P0222 code (APPS low input voltage). When scanned, it actually shows two P0222 codes. I erase the codes, but they immediately come back. Any ideas on where to start looking?

  17. So you got a Cummins, congrats! But are you getting the best stock performance for what YOU use it for??? Here is some info you may find interesting.. so the HX35 began in 1995, similar spec to the WH1C which was a 94 one year hybring is the H1 series and HX series that honestly I wouldn’t mess with. It’s not really worth building as it’s balanced as an assembly so you can’t drop wheels on or make changes without swapping the turbine also. The center section or bearing housing isn’t that great, the oil paths aren’t as open as the HX. So the HX35 was a 56/60/12 which is the main figures you typically look at in turbo sizing. 56mm inducter (inlet) of the compres…

Happen to be walking by the truck parked in the shop and noticed a small puddle of green coolant. It where its at which is strange. Back at the bellhousing. I know the only freeze plug back there is the block freeze plug but as far as I can see right now there is no coolant coming from that freeze plug but I fear the worst.... Possible head gasket.
