2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

  1. So a while back I discovered my heater core was leaking and probably plugged since the heat output last winter was not the best. I ordered and received the new heater core and evap core from rock Auto, figured I'd replace both since I would have the box out already. I plan on replacing both, cleaning everything up and checking all the foam gaskets and whatnot while in there as well. Thought about the "heater treater" part but I was not having the issue that it repairs. Wanted to replace the dash cover as well but it's not in the budget at the moment so it will have to wait. Is there anything else I will need to consider while I have it all apart?…

  2. Started by K-ris,

Short Summary: Bought the truck a month ago for a good deal (2001 24v w/ NV5600, shortbed.) My 1st diesel. Problems started with. AIRBAG light, reverse lights always on, cruise light on, leak from xfer case and also one on the motor. At this moment I am left with a leak on transfer case and cruise light as of yet. New servo, brake light switch, ran the middle wire to clutch pedal, clockspring and checked cruise buttons for function. Also found no substantial power from pin 6 that crosses through the brake switch to the servo. No go, called dealer after noticing too many flags of a hack job conversion. SO pump, hacked wiring harness and …

  3. I've been thinking about cleaning up and painting under the hood. I've googled some pics of Cummins engines painted up and looking sharp. Just wondering if anyone on here has done it. So, if you've detailed and cleaned up your Cummins or painted it up to make her pretty post a pic. I'd like to see them just for some ideas.

So I built a custom truck and had buddy of mine do wiring on it and he hacked it all up. So there are like 4 wires he cut on the in cab harness and I can’t find any where they go, but I noticed the brown clip in the back of fuse panel is missing now. Idk if it was ever plugged in but can someone tell me if it is needed thank you

I recently purchased an 01 6 speed single cab Cummins. I’ve noticed that while driving at slow speeds and turning the steering wheel the truck makes an aggressive power steering whine type noise and vibrates the truck like it wolf off the pump was low on fluid or something. Only while driving at slower speeds, making turns in town and such. Here’s the interesting part, if I’m mid turn and it’s whining, and I press the clutch in it goes away and won’t make any noise. If the truck has either the clutch pedal depressed or if it’s not in gear at all it doesn’t make a sound while turning but If it’s in gear, it makes the noise. Doesn’t seem to matter if I am on the accelerator…

  6. Manufacturer of new hub assemblies for my 1999 Ram 2500 4X with TD says it's okay to have slop between the hub and knuckle since the four bolts will hold the hub in place, no problem. I say baloney, since the bolts should not be subject to any shear load, the purpose of the chamfered faces between the hub and knuckle. Additionally, OEM interference fit caused large problem in getting hub removed from knuckle. Unclear in Shop Manual whether interference fit required. Request advise.

  7. I am looking at having front and rear Eaton TruTrac's installed in the wife's and my truck. Getting really fed up with getting stuck/tire spine on damp grass and poor off road manners especially in mud & steep forestry roads. I am trying to figure out an easy way to determine what spline axles are in each of the axles. Both trucks I am pretty sure I have 3.54 gears in both trucks. Any comments, opinions, suggestions, and recommendations welcome.

  8. 2001 3500 Dually. Hi all just wondering what people are using for brake fluid and if there is any specific brake fluid that is idea for steep mountain driving. I'm about to use Dot 4 on my cars as they need a fluid change and that appears to have a lower boiling point.

  9. Started by Stanley,

Tried epoxy to fix my broken tabs x3 on my pillar. Worked well till I parked truck outside and come back later to see it not attached anymore . Gonna try one more time to secure it, but I need to start looking for a new A pillar. Any thoughts, comments, advise on picking up a new one? If this mask BS goes away maybe go to a junk yard, but around here might not be so lucky. Rather see if some company had them NIB I could get.

  10. Started by 01cummins4ever,

So been fighting this issue with air conditioner since it got warm out and even the last year it was giving me fits, basically my compressor won’t stay engaged even if I have up to three cans of refrigerant from a completely vacuumed system. I have manifold gauges hooked up when charging and can get up to between 150 to 200 psi on the high pressure side and compressor will still cycle off and come back on periodically.( it will drop about 50 psi before re engaging) Sometimes it will not re engage and start blowing warm air, I can wiggle the wires by the compressor and it will re engage for a while but eventually it will quit again. I know it sounds like bad wi…

  11. 02 dodge squeals like a sob when I turn the wheel. Mainly to the left it seems. Stock wheels stock height. Only thing I have done steering related is a steering box brace and that was in May. It just has started a couple days ago squealing. I don't think it's something related to the box brace but y'all tell me what y'all think. I just greased all ball joints and no change. Sprayed the steering stabilizer with wd-40 no change.

My front sway bar is bent/twisted. Has anyone had any luck at all repairing - or having repaired? It's out of whack around 1/2" and chewed up the cushions at the drop link connection. Rockauto doesn't sell a new one, and Hellwig doesn't even make an overpriced new one. Next stop: the junkyards if it can't be retweaked to straight.

Ohh boy i started a can of worms with this title. But to me i have finally accidentally made my truck drive better to me then some newer cars feel to me. Personal opinion i guess. But non the less i think it is pretty good and i would rather drive it then the recent new cars i have drove. I can literally lay my wrist on the steering wheel and drive down the rough uneven dished roads we have around here without any problem or feel like i need to grip the steering wheel. I hope i can help someone else with what i have learned. This was done on a 94-99 truck. For 2000+ trucks instead of bushings you will probably need offset ball joints or maybe someone makes a adjustab…

I renewed both sway bar links complete about 18 months ago, now both sets of bushes are split again and it's MOT time. I had a set of Landrover 90/110 rear lower shock absorber polybushes and they are just right for the sway bar link bushes, the ones I have are a flat bush but you can get bushes with a cone shape on one side which would sit in the sway bar better. Could probably do with a thin tube spacer in the sway bay just to centralize it but I didn't have a piece of tube the right size Probably not much use to you guys in the USA but here in the UK and Europe landrover stuff is everywhere, cheapest on Ebay is £3.85 for the set

I rolled my dash out and this are the wires that I find. Please someone tell me where they go or what they do. I cannot figure out how to pull the entire dash out so I am going to just try to cut the. Back to fresh and see where I can put them. From what I can tell all the wires on the box to the left in the picture are accounted for. But there is like 6 wires melted together that I don’t know what they are or where they go. I now have no idea how to add a picture

So what is out there you guys have found that are decent on gravel roads and in mud that don't make these truck wander so bad on pavement? I have used many tires but most rougher treads make these trucks wonder and squirl all over the road. Especially Fierce attitudes! They seem to make everything drive bad. I had a set of pro comp mud terrains years ago that drove great but they have long been discontinued for a newer version that wonder all over the road. Only other tire i have tried that drove good are the michelin MS which are a street tread. I want something that does a bit better off road then street tires. Surly there are other good tires out there? The bad o…

hello, I just bought my first dodge. 02 slt Laramie, 24v, bone stock. I want to put an aftermarket stereo in it so I ordered the factory plugs, dash kit, speaker box for the back seat, etc. I went and bought a stereo from the local Walmart and went to install it. Using the factory wiring diagram on the top of the original stereo, I wired it up and im not getting any sound out of the speakers. It turns on and all that stuff but I can figure out why it won't work. My question is, on top of the two factory plugs and the ground wire, there is another set of wires the plug into the factory stereo that are pink and white with a small white connector. What is this a…

Its time to start looking for pads and rotors, front and rear, for my brake upgrade. I usually use ceramic pads from NAPA, lots of Adaptive One stuff and their premium rotors but I've been looking more for this project. Has anyone used Power Stop Evolution pads and rotors on their truck? If so which ones and would you use them again? Any other recommendations for good stopping power, brake fade, noise?
