My truck has a factory security theft system. It was an option for our trucks. When you lock the doors with the key fob, the truck will not start without unlocking the system with the key fob. If you are inside the truck and lock the doors with the fob, it will crank, start, and then the engine shuts off. My question to those that are wiser than me, "has anyone tried to see exactly how this system works?" Does the system have to be activated with a down load?

Power door locks My pass side stopped unlocking a couple years ago. It would lock, down. but not unlock,up just makes a noise, eeeegh I have never took the door panel off and to check it out. Then I saw power door lock mechanisms at Geno's for about $200 ,,,geeze ! So has any one repaired a power door lock or do they just phuck up and need replacing like all the other new modern electronic crap?

I think with a reader I can get feedback on my laptop but I don't know exactly how it would work. I would think I could see the exact numbers for all of my guages along with IAT info. I am not sure though. The 1997+ all had OBDII on them I just don't know what I can monitor, anyone got an idea? I was thinking of getting this http://www.laplogger.com/products.shtml?fily=wired_usb

Hi All, The broken E brake... I brought up in my General Topics post viewtopic.php?f=23&t=382 I can see the front cable is moving in & out with the pedal. There's no resistance. I dragged a hunk of cardboard out & took a quick look under the truck. On the drivers side, outside the frame rail the front is connected to the drivers side rear. There's a thin rusted bracket attached to the rear cable but it's adrift. The attachment for the passengers side is there but not attached to anything. A push / pull cable requires the cover to be anchored at both ends. I imagine the rusty bracket was welded to something. The truck is very rusty underneath…

So I replaced my wheel bearing/hub assembly yesterday, I didn't put the heat shield/dust shield plate back on due to destroying it getting the hub off. My ABS wire was then able to rub on my rotor, not to my knowledge of course, and proceeded to cut the cable almost in half. Is there any way to fix the cable? I really don't want to buy another 270 dollar hub for a dagum cable.

Has anybody on here had any luck with the cheap Amazon winches? I just picked up a 12000lbs viper recovery from a company called motoalliance. Looks like it has a decent warranty. I bought it to pull trees up to the road for firewood. We shall see i guess. Ill post an update once i get some use out of it. Merry Christmas everyone.

  10. Was driving the other day and noticed my overhead console display going haywire. I've had it on the fuel economy display lately & was pleased to see my mileage creep up with the warmer temps (got up to 19.7 mpg). Suddenly the numbers started to increase rapidly, about 2 tenths every second, then more like 2 mpg per second. The number kept on spooling up until it hit 99.9 then it stopped there. While it was spooling up I scrolled through the different displays & saw the miles to empty reading spooling real fast too. A few moments after it hit 99.0 I did a reset while I continued driving: it came back down to 2 mpg and then started to increase again but at a much s…

Well my ball joints have finally decided they've had enough. 174,XXX miles I can't complain. I can complain about Dodge's ingenious idea to rivet them in though! So who has done this? Is it a huge PITA or not too bad. Truck is a 2wd dually. I found some moog joints from rockauto.com for $350.00 shipped. Deciding to do it myself or pay for it to be done.

Hi All, How Screwed am I? So the P.O. coated the front bumper and rear bumper with bed liner, and oh Yea he coated the grill as well. He thought that it looked great. I bought the truck knowing that they bolt on. That said I came home with Stock Front and Rear Bumpers for $200. I was cleaning the front bumper prior to installation when I noticed that the lower front cut out was full rectangular. My bumper has a round hole for the Fog lights. So Crap now what? Also I have seen ads for year conversion bumper brackets (Gen 3 for Gen 2 trucks?), has anyone put a later bumper on? Yes it is 3D, with texture. The good news is that you don't sl…

Hey guys, I lost my high beam function on the passenger side of my truck. I know it's not the bulb because I already replaced it with a new one. What color wires should I be tracing to repair this issue or what might the problem be? The high beam function works perfectly on the driver's side. Thanks

  15. I just got done installing my high idle switch. I went to try it out, but nothing happened, I waited for about 10 minutes on each setting as I know it's not an instant thing. I don't think it is the switch as I have a scan gauge and it shows the IAT and ECT values change with each twist of the knob and the TPS voltage was also reading 0. I took the truck in 2 weeks ago to have the TSB for the high idle unlocked, they said to bring it back if it didn't work, but is there anything else I should check before I deal with the dealership again?

Ok gang...Time to pick your brain a bit. My 1996 dodge Ram 1500 has a CAD axle under it. This morning heading towards Donnelly, ID it was only 15*F and slick. So climbing Goose Creek grade I figured I'd lock the 4WD and be safe. Once it locked and the 4WD light came on it just whined the whole way. So Near the top I push the stick back 2WD and the CAD remain locked for a bit long but still whined... The POP! CAD released and whine is gone...I remember I checked the gear oil last month and it was full and clean and the Transfer case was full and clean too. So my thought is u-joints??? :shrug:CAD axle are new to me... Haven't played with them much yet...

I have just finally resealed the Hydroboost on my truck only had the seal kit for most of this year, MOT (our yearly check) is overdue so as it was leaking and that would be a fail I decided nows the time. The reseal went ok, had to cut the rod as it's a staked item, I was going to make a threaded joiner on my lathe but decided against that as the inner bore of the input seals are tiny compared to the rod they have to be fitted over to get to their grooves and didn't want sharp threads incase I had to ever reaseal again, anyway thats all done and rod welded back together. Question is has anyone got a picture of the accumulator looking right in it, speci…

I had an issue with both of my quad cab doors wouldn't open using the inside door handles. I took the door panels off and found the cable that goes from the inside handle the the outside one was broke where in anchors in the door panel. Apologize for the crummy pictures but its the best my camera will do. Hopefully this will help somebody else out so they know what to look for.
