2nd Generation Dodge Reliability / Performance

I have had the itch to trade up to a newer model but after talking to several owners of different brands, most say just keep what I have and sink a little money into the 2001. 2001 automatic, HY35, 4.10, 119,000 miles. Driven 10,000 miles a year and retirement coming in a couple of years. Here is my plan so shoot holes in it. BHAF, gated HX40 turbo, 4" exhaust, 75 HP DAP sticks, re-build transmission. I have a Edge Juice with attitude that I might add. Opinions?

I have an 02 HO/6 speed with 3.54 gearing. I am looking for better towing performance and economy. What is the best way to get there? I was looking at a Quad XZT+ and a set of RV275 injectors. I don't want to begin chasing the next parts needed to make the new parts work. Still on the stock clutch. That will be upgraded for a good towing/DD version when needed. The XZT and RVs is similar to an iQuad. Does the iQuad fit the bill for what I am looking for? I don't want to change the turbo now because of a new set of injectors or a tuner. Looking for a good update but not crazy requiring other supporting upgrades. If I want to go fast I have another ride that fills tha…

  3. Back again. I towed the tiny house from Tucson to Denver last summer and it was a little slow. Besides being heavy, the house is just as aerodynamic as a 13' x 8.5' flat wall. I couldn't shift into 5th on the nv4500 unless I was going downhill. I couldn't keep up with the semi's at 65 mph unless I was running 4th at 2400 rpm so I just cruised at 55. The rollers between Trinidad and Pueblo had me in 3rd at 40 mph. There are a lot of rollers. All I want to do is use 5th gear to keep up with the semi's and maybe go over a rolling hill in 4th. Anyway, 'tis the season of sales on upgrades so I got a Quad v2. I'm sure the quad will help add f…

Hi everyone, I have read alot of posts here and on CF trying to put together the "best" mods to my truck that I think fit my needs. Before I pull the trigger I want to run it by you and make sure I am headed in the right direction. My truck is a 2000 3500 Dually two wheel drive with an automatic tranny. It has 173,xxx miles on it. Previous owner put 65 horse injectors in it, plugged the wastegate, K&N air filter, 4 inch exhaust turbo back, and a new stock lift pump. I've read these trucks will go for 700,000 + and I'm going to have to try because I can't afford a newer model! Besides the occasional trip around town I put a 4K pound Lance 11'6" truck bed camper in t…

  5. Hey guys, Well I went ahead and bought that used Edge EZ off Kijiji for $150. Put it on Friday night.. and I THINK it was working.. although there definitely wasn't a night and day difference. Ran fine yesterday the couple times I took the truck out.. then tonight, when I was driving my son to soccer, I was braking for a red light and the truck surged for a second on it's own. When the light turned green I went to accelerate and there was no throttle response at all.. it was just idling. I put it in neutral and it started to slowly idle up again on it's own - but still a dead pedal.. at about 2000rpm I put it back in drive.. and pulled off to the side of the roa…

Is there really valuable parts I would want to consider pulling of a 99 gas model before owner has it towed away, without starting my own junk yard? ? In my area parts not that easy to find sometimes. (Took me couple months to find a fuel tank) Body parts...nothing without minor dents. Interior...shot. Any parts that are rare I should consider?

Who makes the best valve body for a 47re? I'd like something with 2nd gear lock-up. I noticed that there's a major price diff between BD and ATS (with BD being substantially more) so I'm wondering which to go with when the time comes. Or maybe a different brand, depending on what you all think.

So I changed the lash to 8 intake 15 exhaust. It still spools really good but not the jump I was expecting because it was a huge difference when I went from 10/20 to 8/18 so I thought 8/15 would be a big jump again on spoolup but I don't think it changed that much. I am thinking me cleaning the turbo and all the crap off of the turbine shaft must have gave it a big kick. I will say this though, it runs reallllllly smooth now. The power just rolls on perfectly, no points on the throttle that are more powerful than others, even down at lugging speeds. I might go back and set the intakes down to 6 and see what happens.

replacing head gasket and thinking about adding upgraded valve springs since the head is off and getting decked. Are there any real gains from upgrading valve springs for my truck? i do not plan to add any more power or performance parts from here on out just figured since I'm here I should do those or not. If i should upgrade them what to and what is all do i need to order todo so?

I tow, and plow and sometimes the truck might idle for a few hours at a time while out on a job. I have DAP 7x.010 SAC injectors that at the time were new body injectors circa 2013 and they have over 200k. I pulled one for a pop test and it was dripping slowly when closed so it's time for a replacement, also the truck is showing tired injectors by idle hazingl more and more with time. I'm hoping to get some expert opinions on the matter to replace. I have a truck built to make power while towing.Quad v2, converter is a little looser stall than stock, I've gone down from a s364 to an s362 that behaves well. SOVP, the rest is pretty normal compone…

I got a turbo from @CSM and I went ahead and got it pulled down to rebuild it. While its apart I figure I would measure out the turbine and compressor wheels. Here is what I got. Compressor Inducer 60mm Exducer 83mm Turbine Exducer 60mm Inducer 69mm From what I found online this is a HX40 compressor wheel. The HX35W is 56mm compressor wheel. So this should be a rather nice boost (pun intended). Waiting for my bearing kit to come.

Not sure if this is the correct area to put this, sorry if it is Mike Anyways, just want to get your thoughts on what I have going on. Between 40-50mph I'm getting some vibration which I'm thinking is a tire balance issue? It's almost like I'm going over a whole bunch of small bumps in the road, but that's not it because it happens everywhere that I'm between 40-50mph. It's nothing violent and doesn't effect the steering or anything, but it is annoying. Should I check anything else?

  17. 99 2nd gen 2wd dually. 365k miles. Bonestock besides 4" straightpipe, S&B Intake, and quadzilla adrenaline V2. In the video, I'm running the "stock injector race tune" from me78569 that i downloaded from here. Turned all the way up to 5: Im maxing out at 19psi of boost. My fuel pressure sporadically spikes down to 7psi. And the truck doesnt blow any smoke (not that I care, just concerned it's running lean because i feel like it should be fueling for 35-40psi from what I've read) Any idea what's wrong? MAP sensor? It acts like this even in the default power levels, cranked up to 11. No CEL, but I am getting a p1693 code on my CTS2 moni…

  18. I have a new proto type with custom circuit boards so I don't have to worry about a big mess of wires and components moving around and causing problems. I can move on to working out more of the code. My tune tables need some work and I need to build an ECU to operate my guage cluster and OBD2 port. Got my transmission signal working pretty good. I need to make a TPS calibration routine. Here's a new video of it running.

  19. I was in a panic when my fuel pressure went down to 5psi. Went to O'Riely's and spent $53 on a cheap Chinese pressure gauge with all kinds of adapters for most likely any vehicle. Second time I used it the piece in the middle that presses the schrader valve fell out and would no longer test. I took it back and got my money returned. Ordered one from Vulcan Performance. Was here the next day and cost $54. Nice liquid filled gauge that only goes to 30psi and has a 6' hose. You could route it into the cab if wanted. It's got a turn valve that depresses or not the schrader insert. Unscrew the gauge from the hose and you've fgot a great bleeder system and can bleed into a…
