Amsoil intake fail
That looked very similar to a filter a vendor sent to me to try but when I got the filter it already had the standard pin holes like K&N filter does. From the picture it appears to be a standard washable media filter. So my bad on that... But I wonder what the price of the filter vs. the life span before being consumed now? Being its not washable how many miles will it go before pulling a water column vacuum on the filter? As for the damage if there is no holes visible I say go for it. But if the media was distorted enough to create a pin hole I say replace it. EDIT: Looking back at the picture. You didn't rotate the filter did you? If you didn't move it then I would say its possibly been sucked down. But if you did rotate it from the bottom then I would say it was damaged from beating against the fender. I can't see getting damage on the top of the filter unless it stands taller than a BHAF which mine barely rubs the hood near the firewall. But still mine is not tied down and not distorting.

2002 Hard start, occasional stall, not fuel related (this time)
Just probe the wire with a test light to see whats going on.

OBDLink LX and Android Tablet
To simplify the learning curve I started with the 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 with only the PCM to find. I've got to say "SUCCESS!" I figured out how to address a simple gauge like "Tachometer". The 1996 Dodge follows the PID listing for the ISO 9141-2. Take notice the module/header is 104. This is decimal for hexadecimal 68. Now to move over to the diesel and try again... Then dig deeper into the dark corners of that ECM (Evil Laugh)... I'm going to keep moving forward. Like what I found in the SAE doc...

HPCR Injector Changes Throughout the Years
Ok. But there is always going to be someone wanting to add Big Bang Injectors or similar so that's why I'm asking if they aftermarkets are of the same quality or not? Nice to see 6.7L engines getting there act together. But lets give them more time and see what happens in the future.

Amsoil intake fail
Check with the site vendors... http://forum.mopar1973man.com/index.php?/forum/140-vendors-dealers/ Vulcan Performance, DAP, CPP Diesel, etc... Personally I'm not fond of any washable filter most will fail shortly from excessive washing.

Added more PDF documents to the original post showing more about the OBDII port under the dash... I'll keep adding more documents as I find them.

HPCR Injector Changes Throughout the Years
Brian you speak of Bosch changes. How about most of the aftermarket injector market do they follow the Bosch changes as well?

scan guage cutoff setting
Set it for zero. It used for telling the Scangauge when the fuel is cutoff for like hybrids and our diesels. Our fuel is technically cutoff at 0.

Ok. The lift pump should not run all the time with the key on. The lift pump only runs if the crank sensor detects RPM's then it activates and shuts down after loss of RPM's. This is a safety thing. As for the VP44... Here is the wiring diagram. As for the ground that is the battery cable not anything tied to the body or frame.

tranny temp gauge
Most suggest installing in the pan or in the hot line leaving the transmission to the cooler.

It don't look like you were using any tapping oil of any sort. Also it looks like you attempted to tap in a single pass. Usually tapping is a in and out process cutting a little and cleaning your tap of cuttings to prevent binding. Smaller taps tend to break rather easy.- OBDLink LX and Android Tablet
Umm... pin 5 is a ground lead. Pin 3 is the CCD Network. I know for sure now its just I'm entering something wrong. Like on both trucks they both report IAT temperatures as a provided gauge. But creating a custom PID and attempt to read data and the same thing every time "No Data Received". So I'm missing something.- thanks Mike! I redid the air conditioning pump on my truck due to failed clutch.
Not a problem. I'm glad my information helped out.- OBDLink LX and Android Tablet
Like what I'm finding is the Dodge Cummins did NOT follow the OBDII rules for the most part. So this adds bit more challenge to the puzzle. Even when you do a PID search on OBDLink app it reports that it not a OBD complaint system.- JAG1 made it to my place.
What can I say its a illness every Dodge Ram Cummins owner has to deal with. You never know when the bug will bite you and when it does you don't what to do next. Well you in the right spot we can spend you money for you. Seriously. JAG1 has a very nice stock powered truck very clean as well. He's done a lot of supporting mods to the truck already like front end work, suspension for heavy camper, and fuel system that I've seen. Yeah... He's still got a stock tranny and that is the weak point. So till that's dealt with I say enjoy what you got. Then you can step up to a Edge, Smarty, etc.- OBDLink LX and Android Tablet
Now I had a long discussion with Yankneck696 about this. Yes, Yankneck696 has one as well he uses for diagnostic work. The OBDLink LX is the one you want unless you plan on using it for new Fords and GM products then you need the OBDLink MX which covers the newer Fords and GM products. Now there is more to this the OBDLink LX has the ability of working with a terminal (modem terminal) and taking custom commands to dig deeper into your ECM/PCM looking for information. My current challenge is getting a grip on the Cummins hidden information and where its at. But first thing first get the hang of producing a common gauge like coolant and understanding the PID's and MODE's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs Thing is there is very little if any information on the web for the dodge Cummins in the way of PID information and very few people are even using this method of data reading. So I'm working at compiling information ASAP for the group here. I'm hoping to get other involved to start a list for 3rd and 4th Gen too. Another factor was Cowboy and his custom setup for 12V so when I start studying about the Bluetooth dongles I jump in with both feet and moved foreward. As for softwares for Android... Torque https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque&hl=en DashCommand https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.palmerperformance.DashCommand&hl=en OBDLink - FREE app for OBDLink owners fully unlocked. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=OCTech.Mobile.Applications.OBDLink&hl=en Thing I love is.. The Android Tablet is Linux based, my home computers are all Linux based... So far I've got much more power and control over the OBDLink compared to ScanGauge II which seem so limited now.- OBDLink LX and Android Tablet
Yes. Also allows for clearing all codes. Why I'm going this route is to dig deeper like fuel temp at the VP44 which I know I can do. Now dreaming, maybe how many degrees of timing advancement on the Vp44...- JAG1 made it to my place.
Opps... All I did was... And JAG1 had a perma-smile from ear to ear. All I did was pull up Goose Creek grade in 4th squeezed the throttle a bit deeper than normal and the rear tires let go. JAG1 was shocked when the truck pulled a bit sideways around the corner just as the rear tires broke lose. What was funny was he asked me to drive his truck after installing the injection pump. I knew I couldn't because I'd have to put my boot through the floor to make it pull like mine. So I stayed a passenger for the sake of his stock tranny. So JAG1 is off to work to get paid so he can cure his sickness... I know he feels the love here...- OBDLink LX and Android Tablet
So far the Torque App only see speed and RPM that's it. Can't see coolant temp, IAT temp, etc. At least with the OBDLink it will run through the PID's searching for active data. My problem is now digging into the enhanced data and what mode number and what the PID's are. So far just trying to do a second coolant gauge (Custom PID) comes up dead. I've got two documents up there with PID's and one is in decimal and the other is in hexadecimal. Now my question is when entering information is it entered in decimal or hexadecimal? Digging the internal for documents for any of these apps is pretty thin. If I can just figure out one gauge then I'll know the format...- OBDLink LX and Android Tablet
Since I've been a big pusher of the ScanGauge II I'm now moving away from them. Being I picked up a Android Tablet for working on the web site I figured I would now pick up a OBDLink LX Bluetooth for diagnostics and also enhanced data. Like SmartyTouch has enhanced data like fuel temp and other things like Quadzilla and Edge does too. So if a person wants this information your stuck buying a expensive product. Now I'm working to get this data for the Common Joe. Here is what I've got... http://www.obdlink.com/lxbt/ Now here is the documents I've found for this project. saeJ1979_2006-08-25Ballot.pdf ISB_TROUBLESHOOTING_VOL_2.pdf 54262388-Cummins-Isb-Chrysler-FIS3666288.pdf ELM327DSF.pdf SAE J2178_2v002.pdf K-line communication description_V3 0(1).pdf Now I got to start probing the ECM for the data I'm looking for. I'll keep posting information as I find it. Just a quick screen shot of the stock OBDLink Software and the few gauges.- How Much?
No such thing... It was barely under 80*F all the time...- JAG1 made it to my place.
Well I made it back from Huntington, OR just now. Good trip home being we waited for the storm to pass. JAG1 drove through it. (Covering Eyes) but I see he made it just fine. Sounds like BOMB (Better Of Modified Baby!) bug bit you. I've got to admit we had a wonderful time hanging out for a week. JAG1 is a awesome character to get to know. Sure has a wonderful talent for working with wood. I hope to see him again in the near future. Weather should be warmer and less snow. But here is a few pictures of our camp out in Huntington, OR.- How Much?
As of right now I'm at 7 cords of wood consumed. Still burning wood every day yet. Start burning typically in October and burn till almost June usually. No backup furnace or automatic heat... All heat is from firewood. I'm not like most that set a thermostat and walk away during the day and then build a fire at night when they get home. So the electric furnace or propane furnace is going mos of the day and then burning only a small 2-3 cords a season.- Anyone running 2 stroke in other diesels?
I typically sneak a 128:1 ratio shot of 2 cycle oil into my Chevy 6.5L diesel fire truck. - 01 dodge speedo doa
