  1. I cant knock any of the pumps. I just am not going to drill a big hole in the bottom of the tank. But thars just me.
  2. My perception is you have a 150gph pump, mine is 165gph, i dont think the VP can accept that much fuel. To me that puts the bottle neck at the VP. The pump is trying to push that much fuel but VP but won't accept it and the pump has no return for it to go to the basket. Might need some extra advise here from others that know better than me. I just dont know how much fuel you can push into the VP.
  3. I bought 3 old new stock in the box spicers with 2001 and 2002 dates on them. I just hope someone did not stick something odd in them. They are spicer but not sure how to verify they arre real from the day. I did buy them as such.
  4. I am not familiar with this pump and it does not appear to have a return line from the pump to the basket. My AD has a return directly from the pump to the basket in addition to what the engine is returning. The return line from the engine will not keep up with the demand of the pump so you probably need holes in the basket. The engine return line only returns the fuel that passes thru the VP for cooling and any extra fuel the injectors don't use. So from my feeble mind if the only fuel that is being returned to your tank via the basket is less than the demand of your fuel pump. I hope that came across ok, I seem to have a little @KATOOM disease. What I type makes sense to me but does not always make sense to others.
  5. Mine uses vacuum and and it failed in the actuator or ar least I think it has. I have been thinking of late that it just could be some worn fittings that might not be letting enough vacuum get to the actuator.
  6. I do not remember drilling holes in mine. I did remove the red flapper in the bottom of the basket shown in @Dieselfuture picture. Both my engine return and pump return go to the basket. No issues with running the tank dry. What fuel pump do you have?
  7. 434k to be precise. I have set of spicer sealed sitting on a shelf. Figure to do them sometime in the future just because. I do not see alot salt like some off you do. Have done my best stay away from it.
  8. Mine too. Easy to get it in there.
  9. In a since yes but basket has to be modified for the pick up and the extra return line. Could be a little different for the FASS vs the AD that I used.
  10. You don't have to but you will want to. Without the bigger lines you will see alot of pressure drop due to the stock lines being so small. No sump is needed, you can pull right from the fuel basket with some modifications. Kits are readily available for that purpose.
  11. I ran a 75hp Banks tuner and RV275'S for several years on the stock clutch form150k miles and never once slipped the clutch. That was pulling a 14.5k 5th wheel. The quad v2 would get my vote today. You dont have to tap the pump and if ever decide you want more power you would have the option to tap the pump, turn the tuner up and slap some bigger injectors in. I would have chosen that route myself had the quad been available when I bought my Edge.
  12. I dont know about all of what @Me78569 has posted, but it works. Even the DAP 50's I have on now have maintained the mpg advantage.
  13. That is quite a bit of difference.
  14. This is why I asked a while back as to what king of AD you have and how it is wired. Katoom is much more eloquent than I am, and explains it better.
  15. Could just be the fuel level sender is crapping out on you. They are mechanical I beleive and they wear out. It and a lot of things on your truck are 18 years old where mine are only 17.
  16. I can see the day that we junk vehicles just because the electronics are shot and are too expensive to repair. Chasinf gremlins at a shop is already expensive.
  17. Why can't you put more than 15 psi with it connected? My stock ones saw 33psi regularly especially towing in the hill country and mountains without issue. Never tested them that high. I test mine in the 20 psi or so range.
  18. I test mine with the intake horn in place. You can find any leaks there also.
  19. While it is not common it does happen. Went thru 3 on the wife's Dakota inabou as many months.
  20. And he has a pump he does not have to buy.
  21. That's a good sign. I would do the diagnostics on your codes and see what you find.
  22. A dealer, maybe, Cummins or send it to rebuilder to test it. Not much you can do but find symptoms or see a p 0606 code. Fuel pump not acting rignt is one. At key on you should get a little blip or prime of the pump, less than a second. Bump the starter and it should run for 20 or so seconds. Engine starting should run about half pressure and engine running the pump should run constantly. Now that is if it is connected to the ECM and it is working as it should. If it is connected to the ECM or wired to a key on hot and running all the time that could be the hard start issue, to much pressure while starting. If it is connected to the ECM and running all the time, there is your first symptom. Does you WTS light come on at key on or is it delayed? That is another symptom.
  23. The po may have had ECM problems and wired the pump to a key on hot to get around it.
  24. Saw this one when I was down in Alabama. That's a corner of my job site just above the hood. He came up right after I took the picture. Got in, fired it up and it went his dd ride height. Hit a button and it went to his tow height. He had a landscape business and towed equipment and materials with. When looked in the bed you could tell he did use it. I believe he put a lot more thought and $$$ in it than the Ford guy. Still not my cup of cool.
