  1. are you saying the engine was running backwards?
  2. i dont believe the noise is coming from the brake. it is faint but still audible and i can only think it is coming from the drive line somewhere up front. i heard it with the old tranny and the new to me tranny, so i am not sure where the noise is. the guy on CF said you should not use an eb on a nv5600 and i had never heard that anywhere before. i know alot of people with them have them so i am not sweating that one. the noise has me somewhat baffled. same noise in every geari love mine. one of the best mods i have installed. i came over the blue ridge mtns. and used my brakes twice because people slowed in front of me. stayed at or below the limit no problem.
  3. i dont think so. the noise is constant the whole time the eb is on. very faint almost like a rattle but clinking. if that makes any sense.
  4. i have noticed when mine is on i hear, for lack of a better term, a faint clinking noise whenever it is on. i had noticed it with my original tranny also. i thought it was the tranny since the original went out on me. it was going out before the ebrake install. i still hear the same noise. it is faint but present. just have not been able to detirmine what i am hearing. it is definately due to the ebrake being on. i have read alot about the 5600 and never saw a statement like that any wher else.
  5. i came a cross an old thread on CF discussing pros and cons of the nv5600. the only thing unusual in it was a single post by someone stating you should only use an exhaust brake in 5th gear. no mention as to why or any responses to the post. i am just wondering if any of you have ever heard of any reason not to use an ebrake on a nv5600.
  6. welcome. it seems you are already findig answers to your problem.
  7. i have been getting just under 18 on the highway. thats running 65 to 75 most of the time. the truck has 265 75r 16's and we weigh about 7500#. i just installed some rv 275's and i am now getting just over 19. close to 1.5mpg better. i have only run 3 tanks since the install so i am still watching it. the return tee was leaking, fixed that and only one tank has shown the 19.2. so iam still watching it. I would have to agree with AH on the speed thing. that and a heavy foot getting up to speed will kill the milage. mine has stayed very close to 18 highway since it was new.
  8. thanks i missed the tread life rating. this is what i get when i compare what i saw there.265 75R16 load range E Sentinel $108+$25 each shipping+$20 mount and balance=$153X4=$61224 month 24k mile warranty. tread life 40k to 50k purchased from Discount Tire265 75R 16 load range E Pirelli $209X4+$836 out the door.65K warranty on treadfree rotation and balancefree flat repair(they tell me they will do that for anyone wether you bought them there or not)free replacement if damaged beyond repair(i have had to use this twice on differant sets, ran over something both times)the is the second set of these i have run and i got around 58K on the first ones.if you have no problems with either set there is only about a $50 differance in the cost thru the life of the tires. rotation and balancing is going to cost you something down the road unless you know someone who will do it for free. Treadwrights warranty states you must have it done a documented to honor the warranty. the initial cost is much nicer than new tires, i cant argue that. i for one am tired of the sticker shock i get when buying new tires. but for the life of the tire and what i have from discount tire it would be hard for me to change.
  9. they are good looking tires. i just wonder if you get enough milage out of them to make them economical compared to a new tire. i used to run retreads a long time ago and dont remember any bad problems, but i do remember reduced milage along with the cost.
  10. NC sets up license checks and DUI checpoints about everywhere i have been in the state. Some are announced some are not. they will right you a ticket for any violations, vehicle or driver. these are usually doone in town or on secndary roads. Occationaly you will see them at off ramps on the interstate. its not like they are all over the place day and night.
  11. Howdy Bob. Hormonol might be an understatement. Jag has a point on possibly a clogged vent, but i am like you and feel your pressure would have gone up operating without the cap. Did the presssure ever come back up after removing it? Putting some air into the fuel line sounds like a good idea to see if there is anyhting in that part of the system. There might even be something in the line to the fp gauge. I think checking with the test would be th easiest thing to do first. Though with out a port for it i could be speaking out of turn.
  12. There are differant pumps. SO on the autos and 5 speeds, HO on the six speeds. There is also hotrod vp. I am not sure of the differances in the pumps. Blue chip is a good place to get info on that. My truck will boost to 34#. My waste gate opens fully at 34# to35#, that and the Ottomind tuner on the truck allows me to do that. the only way i could pass 35# is for the waste gate not to open. i while back i lost the ground to my tuner and could only push 25# to26#. i repaired the ground wire and all returned to normal I put a new vp from Blue chip on my truck about a 1 1/2 years ago. I have had the Ottomind for 6 years and there was no differance in performance after the change. I just swapped an HO fo an HO. The hotrod vp is another story and i know nothing of them. I wish i could explain this better but my knowledge is limited on this subject. so maybe we can get a little help from some one.
  13. Are you monitoring your fuel pressure to be sure it is still good? A bad or failing vp can casue lower milage.
  14. mine does not change goingover the blue ridge mountains. the highest elevation i see is somewhere between 5,000 and 6,000 feet though. maybe its just a rocky mountain high thing. hmmmm.....
  15. beware the grid heaters dont throw it back at you. we like you they way you are. your truck also.
  16. Bob, if you had a leak causing the pressure drop you would know it. you would be loosing enogh fuel to see it somewhere and smell it also. i still have to lean toward the gauge or a retriction in the line or filters. i was suprised that they dont put the screen in anymore, it seemed to be a decent feature. try that test and see what happens. good luck
  17. my wife went thru the same thing a while back. i was not impressed with the whole experience and quite agree with you. thats all i care to say about.
  18. Bob, i sure hate to here this. my first thought is the filters, but i believe you did those not very long ago when you first had the problem. you still might want to check the prescreen and see if something is in there. Might be a sign you picked up some dirty fuel somewher. i'd check the needle valve and see if maybe it has vibarated closed. i think mine has opened a little, seems pressure up a little quicker now. do you still have anywhere to hook a test gauge up. the gauge might be messed up from the isolator going bad
  19. not sure what looks better Brutus or the scenery. i guess they both look preety good to me.
  20. mine has no color for referance either. i just keep the numbers in my head. thats all you need.
  21. welcome. you have found the right place to accomplish your goals with your truck. the folks here have hepled me beyond any where else i have sought help.
  22. mine stis just over 20 at idle. i swear i am going to turn it down a pound or to one day. but like Mike says keep it in the green and you will be ok. the green include wot also.
  23. it is not a difficult job to do. just take your time and follow the instructions. a helper is also nice to have, but not an absolute necessity.
  24. the waste oil would be my problem. i dont think the cummins or the dakota will provide much heat. it is a good concept. especially if you are getting the fue free.
