tranny install
i am going to put a new front a rear seal in the new tranny before i install it. it appears you must remove the tube from the front to acces the seal. is there anything i should be watching out for when i take it off. i downloaded the FSM but it will not open. there is some sort of error.so i am on my own on this one. i would ask the same question about the rear seal. any help is appreciated. --- Update to the previous post... the tranny is off and out of the truck. the new to me one goes in tomorrow. everything i read said to be sure an support the rear of the engine, so i blocked it up with some wood. when they seperated the engine lifted and the blocking fell out. i was a little suprised at that. ijust hope it does not making lining them up any harder.

Crusie Control and Towing
I40 near ashville nc 6 miles 5% to 7% lots of twists and turns just like in chatanooga. i cant do either one of those without thinking about the runaway truck ramps. My 5'r weighs about 14k and it will run away if you let it, even on lesser grades. it is almost 13' tall and there is not enough drag to even think about slowing you down. if i did not gain speed on a down grade i would be wondering what was wrong.

blower controls 06 dakota
i checked my fuses. they ar e good. this happened the other day, no fan speeds at all. it was working when i pulled into the gas station and when i came out and started the engine i had no speeds. a short time later it started working again. worked good for 2 days and then did it again and just started working on the way home tonight. all speeds working like normal. I have never had the rodent problems you have had in my 2500 so i dont think that would be an issue on the dakota. it seems that i might have a bad connection or ground with the way it is working. the resistor went out on the 2500 and i only had one speed. when this one acts up i have no speeds, ac still works just no fan

Crusie Control and Towing
i use mine alot. the only anoying thing i have encountered is going up a hill i might bleed a little speed and when i start down the other side it will speed up to over my set speed before backing back to the set speed. it is like there is a delay starting up the hill and a delay in it cutting out at the set speed. if i hit the throttle slightly before the it will usually hold the speed up and not overeact going back down. like i said it is annoying but i got fairly used to it.

Oil Truns Black Quick
i dont get pissed off out loud at them. they are in a service buisness and they make money by selling services. it pisses me off more when they do that to my wife. sent her in for an oil change once and it cost me $250 by the time they got thru selling her services.

K&N filter good or bad for 2001 Dodge Cummins?
i think you will find the same advice here. i ran a k&n in mine for 8.5 years and never weemed to have a problem. cleaning was pain. i kept it well oiled, but you canover oil them and that can gum up your turbo. mine is still nice and clean. i was a skeptical when i bought my first one because you can see thru it when you hold it up to the light. but it did seeem to catch the dirt preety well. i think the dirt you cant see is what disturbs everyone and when you consider youcan see thru it i can understand why. i have come to know and trust the people i talk to here and switched to a BHAF. it is a dry filter, you cant see thru it, it is very easy to install, eliminates the stock filter box(i had to grease my filter seal to get a good seal, another negative) and i am convinced it is a better filter. folks here are getting 75k to 100k out of one, so the cost is not bad. so iguess i am a convert to the BHAF.

Info needed please guys
it looks like it would bolt up to my 02. you would need the do some measuring ot be sure your exhaust will bolt up to the brake properly. there shoud be a wiring harnes so you can tie it into the trucks wiring. my banks tied into several things. i dont remeber it all now. mine operates on a lighted toggle switch. same as any toggle switch you can get at the parts store, lighted or not. i would not know wether it was all there even if it was in front of me. you might be able to look it up on line and see what the kit came with.

Exhaust hangin low...
unless your exhaust has moved i would almost bet your mounting braket has moved. i know as far as the rods are pushed in mine it would be impossible for them ot come out unless something had moved quite a lot. i just took the one off my tranny and the exhaust would have to shift 4" or 5" to the rear to have come off of that one.

Oil leak (another thread)
i know mine is still there after dodge replaced my oe lift pump with the intank pump and there is a reson for them leaving it there. i just dont remember why. i think one or both othe bolts penetrate the oil jackets in the block. i dont know that for sure, but i believe i have read that some where.

tranny install
glad to hear i am not the only one crawling around on the dirt. me and my grandson got everything off of the truck except the tranny. too many thunder storms. man that tranny got bigger every time i looked at it under the truck. i got my replacement today and talk about big. the bill of lading that came with it says it weighs 201#. i cant pick up one end of the pallet it is on. i think 400# is alot closer. BIG QUESTION? should there be any play in the input shaft? it sticks out of a tube on the front of the tranny. my repacement has about a 32nd of play either up or down or side to side. does this sound normal?

Oil leak (another thread)
the bracket heavy is talking about is just behind and below the fuel canister, you should be able to see it without taking the starter off.

Tensioner Bearing
i have noticed a little rust dust coming out of the pivot point lately, no squeaking. i hosed any opening with PB i could see. hope that makes a differance

Oil Truns Black Quick
every time i have had my oil changed by someone else they bring out your oil is black and you need a flush. i just tell them their oil will be black in 500 miles, do i get a free oil change if their's is black after the flush? that crap pisses me off.

Oil leak (another thread)
my pump came from blue chip diesel and he had some very good instructions. i was able to take it off with out removing all of the fuelines. the three on the rt side of the pump come off as an assembley and the other 3 stayon the engine, very time saving. as i remember i loosened the bolts, then pulled the gear loose. it came of very easily. you can down load his instructions right from his web site. i think mike has some good intructions here also. i just galnced in my haynes manual and they have you taking have the truck apart doing it. that is no bueno:cookoo: blue chip's worked great for me:thumb1:.

Oil leak (another thread)
:iagree:the vp is not bad at all. took about 4.5 hours with a helper/gofer. like jw says just take your time. you might want to replace your cam sensor while you are in there, but you might have a crank sensor in an 01. i dont know. i got oil an my engine too and only see a few drops like you. if i go 8k on an oil change i am right at 1qt low. with every thing else i have had to deal with I am not worrying about that one yet.

tranny install
due to the weight of the nv5600 i figured seperating them and taking them down seperately would be better but i am always open to suggestions. yours a 6 speed also?

24V things to check/do before/after buying?
do the lift pump and fp gauge soon and treat that new vp well. if it is a 6 speed take good care of it they are pricey to replace. i have dealt with most of what dorkweed has listed. did not think about the cam sensor when replacing my vp. mine was a very slid truck untill 9 months ago, thats when i encountered most of those problems. not all at once but pretty close. still would not trade it.
