  1. Yes sir...you got it right. Another way to think about it is pushing the front axle forward so that the center of the bottom spring perch is further forward than the center of the top spring perch. Like Evan's pic indicates.
  2. Loving the hood ornament too! Give us a better look at it...
  3. That is a big swing. My current Napa 200° opens right at 200° and kicks it back to 190°. Never seen it outside that range after first opening.
  4. I think after that many failures and with the amount of work to swap in a g56...I would've built me a 47 or 48 that would have no problem with the power. Cool looking swap though.
  5. No experience with it but I've read of just as many failures of the g56 with higher horsepower as the nv4500. So I don't know how much of an upgrade that would be. Plus they are super expensive to fix being that they are made by Mercedes. And from what I hear the swap isn't exactly a plug and play. I don't know how you guys feel about 'German engineering' but when I hear that phrase I cringe and run away from it. It might have been good in WW2 but has since been surpassed and even lapped. I have made 2 major mistakes with vehicles...bought a BMW and bought a Mercedes. Both were tremendous piles of crap. Those are mistakes I'll never make again.
  6. The truest statement. When I'm fully lit I have 7 different driving lights facing forward...2 crappy headlights, 2 crappy fog lights, and 3 6.5" hi-lights on the bull bar...and I'm lifted 12 inches. I imagine others are thinking 'what in the world is coming at me'.
  7. I have yet to see any 2nd gen aftermarket replacement or oem headlights that are what I would call good. So to me they are all junk.
  8. A couple of 6.5" led hi-lights mounted on a bull bar up front. They are 3x brighter than my sport style headlights that I gave up on and don't blind anybody. They are DOT certified driving lights.
  9. I wouldn't think so...sounds like it's just defueling at a certain rpm. I run up to 60psi boost and rev to 3500+ and I haven't had any float issues with stock springs and rods.
  10. Geez...how much power are you running to shred an overdrive gear like that?
  11. The only other thing I can think of is worn out shocks.
  12. What about tire balance? A choppy wear pattern is often associated with that. And bouncing tires will wonder on you and make noise.
  13. Are all these parts new? What about your bearings...how many miles? Have you balanced your tires recently? Something sounds worn out or possibly tires out of balance.
  14. I don't know what year truck you have...but it sounds like it could be the TPS or APPS depending on what year truck you have...or a bad VP. Have you checked for any codes? That will usually tell you which way to look.
  15. The Goerend pan is definitely a strong piece...instead of cooling fins it has a structural double 'X' across the pan from corner to corner and middle side to middle side on the bottom. And in that part the aluminum is up to an inch thick which I imagine adds tremendous strength to the case and the transmission.
  16. Damn I must be getting old cuz it felt heavier than that. It is very dense for its physical size.
  17. Yeah buddy...all except for the top cover. I would estimate by memory up to 300lbs. I think the nv5600 is closer to 400lbs.
  18. I'm not going to drive mine again til the end of August for this reason alone! Sorry for your misfortune Mike...I've pulled a 4x4 nv4500 before and those cast iron pigs are heavy!
  19. The way I look fuel pressure...it takes 14psi to open up the overflow back to the tank which means that the VP is full of fuel. Since fuel lubricates and cools the VP then having the overflow open means that you are doing the absolute maximum amount of cooling and lubricating. Not having the overflow open means you are doing less than the maximum. So the ultimate goal is to have the overflow open at all times...which means no less than 14psi at all times. Anything less could adversely affect the longevity of the VP.
  20. Looks good to me...exactly like my truck when warm and idling. I have the exact same bypass setup as you as well.
  21. Sorry...I have a habit of stating obvious truths often without regard for feelings. It keeps me unmarried and happy. It's hard to see the logic of purchasing a 21 year old truck that needs so much work when he has no time, space or knowledge to work on it (obvious truth). He would do much better considering his time, space and knowledge limitations by selling it and purchasing another one that doesn't require as much work, time or money (obvious truth). That's the best advice you are gonna get. Mark Twain said "It's much easier to fool somebody than to convince them that they have been fooled." The sooner he realizes that this is not the truck for him and gets one that is...the better off he, and you for that matter, will be. And then when he gets older like you and I and has the time, space and knowledge...by all means get a project truck. I not sure if others will agree with me on that but everyone on here will agree with me when I tell you to thank him for his great service to this wonderful country!
  22. Doesn't sound like the purchase was well thought out...or that any thought was applied at all. He should sell it and use a little more brainpower on his next purchase. Otherwise he could save you thousands in labor by doing the work himself and hundreds in parts by shopping himself...just like all the other big boys do on here. Good luck!
  23. I agree with this. That way you can put the 2nd Tee in a better location rather than cluttering up that area with a bunch of lines and connections.
  24. Well that sucks! I thought you had that 5th gear nut situation handled already.
  25. Yes the newer gens are a little more inset than the 2nd and 3rd gens but just a spacing issue that can be worked out if you want the newest wheels bad enough.
