I asked this before...but after 6 months of 2 cycle oil use I've still got ticking going on. Sound comes out of both front wheel wells. No difference one side to the other. I try to listen to other 24 valve rigs out there and some have the clicking sound and others don't. I adjusted my valves, but should probably look at them again. Maybe one was way out and I adjusted at 20 rather than 10? Other than excessive lifter noise, could a bad injector cause the sound? Idle is smooth, but power and torque seems lower than I feel should be, but that's not backed up with any kind of inpherical evedence. Oil pressure good, fuel pressure optimum, fuel economy around 14 when towing a…

  3. Lately I have noticed my 5 speed is getting harder to get into gear. I can feel the shifter moving between the gates like normal but then try to pull it into gear (mainly 2nd or reverse when stopped) it doesn't seem to want to go unless I press the clutch pedal firmly against the floorboard. It wasn't like that before, she used to slide into gear just fine. With a hydraulic clutch I'm assuming there is no adjustment? Is there a way I can check anything? Any other ideas? Thanks!

  4. My injection pump just went out and am in the process of ordering a replacement. I have pulled it once to replace side cover gasket because it was leaking oil. But it's still leaking oil from there and somehow oil is reaching the fan and getting blown everywhere. I don't know if its leaking somewhere else too. So one way or another, since I will have the vp44 off, I'm going to replace the side cover gasket again. Should I use a butt load of RTV next time, or buy a different brand of gasket?

Yesterday I was coming home from a trip to the hunting property. Truck was running fine and then I hit a railroad track at 60 mph, when all of a sudden the engine got loud (valves seemed to clanked louder than norma) and I lost some throttle power. I never lost total power, just the majority. I could press the pedal 2/3 of the way down but didn't have much power. If I floored it, it downshifted hard and threw the rams up, but I didn't want to run it like that so I didn't do it but once. Other than hitting the rr track pretty hard, the only thing out of the ordinary was I filled up with fuel a few hours prior. I had a quarter tank prior to refueling (water in fuel po…

i need some fan clutch help. local a/c place swapped out my oem fan clutch and replaced it. didnt ask them to but they did. now a/c temp rises at stop lights. the fan clutch they put on, the fins are much shorter than the fins in the picture in @Mopar1973Man "cooling system flush" article. does anyone know the brand/type/part number you have on your truck. i got 2 numbers from parts look up tool, need to find the proper fan clutch and get it cooling correctly again. the one i looked at from autozone have short fins also. for comparison, belt is 1-1/16" wide first picture is of @Mopar1973Man fan clutch fins second picture is from thoroughbred d…

  8. I've seen a lot of info in this forum about engine oil but didn't run across any focused discussion on the topic. If anyone knows of one please direct me to it, if there isn't one now would be a good time for one. I'm planning to change my oil in the next few days. My local parts shop recommended Delo 400 15w40 oil and WIX XP filter (see picture) The fella at the parts shop also said something about using a thinner viscosity in winter. I do go to where it's cold but it's not exactly cold in Los Angeles. I'm hoping some of you that live in cold climates will know about this first hand. Let me know if this is the oil and fi…

This is for the old '99 that the parents have now. It's got a "miss" at idle............but only after the engine has gotten up to operating temp. Cold idle is normal with no miss. It's a miss, but the computer adjusts by increasing the idle speed slightly after warm up.. Running up and down the road, she runs as good as ever. Dad says she's been averaging 19mpg most every fill up. What should I look for and check to diagnose this??? Thanks guys!!

I've been getting code 0336, crankshaft position sensor, lately so I changed the sensor tonight. Still the same problem. Under heavy acceleration the tach bounces around and the comes on. When I'm towing a heavy load the tach will stay at zero long enough that the engine defuels some. To me it seems to be related to the extra vibration caused by the increased power. Any ideas what I should look for next?

  11. First forum post, hey y'all! So I'm looking into getting a new tuner for my Cummins, but it's quite the jungle out there, I've come to find. I see the guys over at PowerDriven Diesel use the Quadzilla Adrenaline tuners, and I kinda trust that lot with all the R&D they put in these engines, but would it be the right tuner for me, is the question? I'm not looking for a tuner that'll supply me with a million horsepower and enough torque to rotate the earth backwards if I launch it too hard in 4WD, but something that'll add around 100-150hp. Having that said, I already have a Smarty S03, and I read elsewhere on this forum that it fuels weirdly, requ…

  13. I am looking for a good quality magnetic oil pan drain plug for my wife's 2001. I have one of the Geno's Garage magnetic oil drain plugs on my truck which is a very good plug but the magnet is kinda weak. It does OK. Does anyone know of any other good quality magnetic oil pan drain plugs? I ordered one from Power **** Racing on ebay. The magnet is really strong but the plug is not the right size and is junk. Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks!

New to this great forum. Just wondering if anybody knows of anybody that has had long term success after replacing the transistor in their vp44 module??? I am referring to the “injector pump fuel valve” drive transistor that overheats melting its connection. Anyone know what the original transistor was that Bosch used? If so please let us know what transistor replacement you used? Did you solder or use an adhesive to secure and provide the necessary heat transfer? Thanks, Gary

I am searching for Moparman's Alternator "noise" test article. Cant find where it is. I want to check and see if my alternator is 100% or not Does Alt noise have to do with a bad diode? I saw a Alternator part on Larry Bs sight. (Diode pack / Rectifier Bridge for Deanso Alternator) Is that "the fix" if your Alternator is making "noise" I think I checked my alt a few years ago, before I replaced my TPS Rick

  17. Hey! ok so ple ase help me here I just bought a 98.5 cummins about a month ago and it has this issue that I just cant seem to tackle and its super frustrating! if I have ac on just cruzing along in overdrive (48+ mph) it jumps in and out of overdrive! but as soon as I turn the ac off.. no problem! it runs great.... turn it back on it goes right back into this cycle of going in and out of overdrive. when I first got it the ac worked but the fan didn't work so when I took it home and got to lookn at it closer I noticed a wire going to the + battery turminal and it had a blown fuse right there too.. replaced the fuse and fan works great now...... just tonight I put a APP…

Do the 24Vs have injector rattle? And under what circumstances does it occur? I'm getting a really loud pinging and panging, like a metal on metal sound, in low rpms when on the throttle. It happens from 3rd to the 3rd lock-up and 3rd to 4th. Right after the shift, the rpms drop to 1300 or 1400 and it starts pinging, but as soon as I get past 1600 or so rpm I don't hear it anymore. My fear is pistons hitting the valves, and NO, I haven't done valve lash yet. Any ideas?

Last year I had the ECM repaired because it would not come off of idle. This year it would start cold but would not start after it was warmed up? I sent the ECM back for repair but it was sent back saying it was fine but the PCM would be the problem? I sent in the PCM for repair and after it was returned and installed now the truck will not start at all? There are no codes showing? Any ideas?

So, i have just installed my new APPS that i received in the mail the other day. Everything checked out fine, truck idles smooth, CEL turned off, and everything except, i cycled the ignition for the heck of it and noticed all 3 codes i had listed before are still there. My questions are...- Am i back to square one?- Do i need to manually reset the codes?- Will these codes reset over time by themselves?Any help is appreciated. Thanks,Dave
