So, I was towing my boat back and no issues until I went to put it in reverse. It was acting like it was stuck. After I backed in the boat, I put the brake on, unhooked the boat. Jumped back in and then tried putting it in first, with the brake on... So, soon after getting home that I tried to put it in reverse and no go. the pedal went right to the floor, and it would not go into gear unless the engine was off. Is this a broken clutch fork, stuck throwout bearing.and do I need a new clutch master/salve cylinder? I rebuilt the tranny last year, replaced the clutch 2 years ago, and now have 350,000 miles, with about 70k on the clutch. Thanks for any he…

truck died on the way to church. Originally had P0236 p0177 p1693 p0602 p0500. However These are all pretty standard for me with the smarty, no fuel canister, and having just spun the tires with the new turbo. I cleared the codes and no other codes came up after trying to crank again. Kinda odd to get a no code die and no start... but I'm thinking the vp44 randomly decided to die. Any thoughts?

Hi, I just joined this site but had visited it for a while now. Lots of good info,Thank you!!! I have found similar threads related to my issue, but seems like thread ends before the problem is resolved or 99% of the time everybody narrow it down to junk vp. I got a 2002, 2500, 6spd, 4x4, qwd cab, with 130k, air dog, 100hp injectors, 3.55 gears, qwad with pulse, 5" pipe, Problem I'm having is driving on highway over 65mph pulling a trailer(rated 14k gross but about 8-10k total) at steady speed , when going up hill truck starts to surge but not much it's noticeable enough to know there is a problem. And if i turn up the fuel box up it gets worse. so it tells me it's fuel r…

So, weather sucks. It's like 4°F here with wind chills of -25. Truck won't start. I though it was gelled up. Poured power service in the tank, went to pour some in the filter housing and the fuel in there is fine. I reinstalled the filter top. Still no start. Put a fuel pressure test gauge on it and no fuel pressure. truck was plugged in, ran fine before thos cold weather, plenty of fuel pressure before also. Is it possible the lift pump froze?

Ok, a little backstory- the truck has a build date of 8/99, auto 2500 with 370k miles I bought this truck recently with a bad transmission but had a reman in the bed. I dropped the reman off at a tranny shop to have them check it out and picked up a single disc torque converter while I had it out. The tranny checked out ok so I swapped the transmissions. On initial install, I only had 1,2,3 shifts with no od and no lockup. I dropped the pans on both and noticed the pressure sensors were different. I swapped the od solenoid, pressure sensor, and wiring harness from the original tranny to my new transmission. By doing so, I was able to pick up od and lockup but not it…

Starter fuses and relays look fine/ Switched them around with some others in PDC and no difference. Ideas on what to troubleshoot ? Had same issue when I came back from holidays. Pulled starter and it checked out ok and switched fuse and seemed to fix but fuse seems ok. thx

Hi, new member here. I am diagnosing a no crank problem for the last few months. Turn the key and nada, no clickity click, nothin. the first 19 times, i tapped the starter with a steel bar and it'd start then start normally for a week or so. . I dont think tapping actually had any effect now, i did think it was the starter. but starter works great. maybe a relay going bad and a few seconds to reset ? the 20th time, i had to hotwire the starter solenoid and it fired right up, then it worked a few more times like normal. now, after the 21st time,, i have to hotwire the solenoid each time i go to start. I checked the voltage at the reverse/neutral s…

So, 2000 RAM, 5 speed. I have bypassed the signal wire and jumped to 12v and engine starts, I have checked all fuses and relays (to best of my knowledge), I also jumpered the clutch safety switch which did nothing.... Wait to start light still works as expected, what would keep the 12v signal from making it to the starter? I know I can just put a push button in to bypass but I want to make sure this isn't a bigger picture issue. This literally popped up outa no where, stopped at a store, and when I got back in it wouldn't crank, I had to roll start it, luckily was on a slight slope. Thanks in advance. Tim

I did get it started, I jumped the terminals on the starter ('00 3500). Funny how you check to make dang sure it's in N before crawling under the truck... and still a little nervous when you stab the terminals with piece of baling wire..So, tomorrow, will check the fuse, relay, and the clutch safety switch... anything else?

I tried using my cruise control on my way home from work tonight and it set a about 90 km/h. Nothing faster but I could use the accel button to speed it up. Played with it some more and then it wouldn't do anything. The odometer readout showed that it would turn on and off. In the morning I was pulling a trailer so I didn't try it then so I can't remember when the last time I used it. Any ideas?

Hi, I thought I would post this on this forum because there seems to be a bunch of people here that are good with Cummins electronics. I have a couple issues. I have a smarty touch with the command module (essentially an MM3) on a new Diesel Power Sourse compound turbo setup. I can’t get the smarty to read DTC codes or the trans temp. Everything else seems to work ok. I sent the unit back to smarty and they were able to test it on a 2001 (mines a 1998.5) and it worked ok so they sent it back and said to check the OBD connector and wiring (which looks good). My generic code reader also works on the OBDII but not the smarty. Anyone have any thoughts on this or know what co…

I’m still running down some issues with my truck. It will start and run but I dont have any charging, no a/c clutch, and no O/D. Everything works when bypassed. No voltage from the pcm on the blue wire from the pcm to the trans relay and alternator. Checked CCD bus with a meter and have 2.4 - 2.5v on the network. Unplugged all modules except pcm, ecm, and ipc. Still no signal. Checked cam sensor and the bolt was missing but I replaced the sensor anyway. Checked and cleaned all grounds. Instrument cluster and overhead console are working so I don’t think the ccd is the issue. I’m wondering if it’s possible to have a bad crank sensor even though the engine starts and runs. …

Help!!!! Traveling cross country with truck and car on trailer. Trying to limp home 1500 miles with a badly leaking tappet cover (1 gallon oil leaks out per 200 miles!) Pulled in to get fuel. Went to start truck, heard click then nothing! All lights, dash lights, windows, cabin lights, etc. DEAD! Checked batteries, terminal connections, grounds, fuses, etc. all seemed good. Removed terminals from batteries and reinstalled them. Heard door open alarm so turned key to run. and had dash lights, windows etc. Tried to start, heard click again then nothing. Lost all dash and interior lights, windows, etc. again. Waited a few minutes and dash, interior lights reappeare…

Truck runs smooth as glass, good fuel pressure at 19, 15wot, 65k miles and got trouble codes 1693 and 230. What's with that everyone? I'll clear the codes and report back. Thanks for any help. Update; I checked the code list and it does not mean a bad vp. 230 means incorrect lift pump voltage from the ecm. I'm hoping it's just dirty battery connections. Now cleaning all battery terminals, checked lift pump connections and batteries still unhooked with headlight switch on to get rid of residual electricity in the system. Hope I'm on the right track here. --- Update to the previous post... I hooked everything all back up and still got code 230. …

I've got this goofy situation going on and was hoping y'all could check my thinking. I'm working on a friends truck that started and died the other day. I get up there expecting to find a bad VP. Instead, I find there is no fuel getting to the lift pump. (Yes, it is a block mounted pump. 300k miles on it!) So I disconnect the suction line from the pump and blow into it. I can hear bubbles in the tank. Now, I pressurize the tank. Barely any fuel comes out. I reconnect all lines, bump the starter, and blow into the tank as the pump is running to force prime it. No go. Should I be looking at a partially plugged line? Or partially plugged basket?
