2001.5 6 speed was driving home just fine when I noticed white smoke coming from the tailpipe. If I hit the skinny pedal I got a lot of black smoke. Pyros were a tad high but not dangerous. Boost normal. Fuel pressure normal. Temperature oil pressure all normal. Even felt like normal power. Regardless took it easy for 5 miles to my driveway. Shut it down. Turned the key. It fired up. Same smoke issues. Shut it down. Turned the key. It rolls over like there is no fuel. Fuel pressure gauge is still good. Popped the hood. Recently had the fuel pressure gauge installed and noticed it was weeping a bit. Thought maybe I was getting air in the fuel …

Hey folks, I've got a hard start issue that started when I pulled off the interstate in 115 degree heat. Almost always has a hard start if the engine is warmed up and sits a couple minutes now. Sometimes it will hard start if sitting overnight. The first time was 1k miles after a fuel filter change on a road trip from Vegas to southern Idaho, but I did the standard bump the pump and it ran great after that. I can't see any fuel leaking anywhere. I've always seen a little drip off the tank if I really top it off, but that's been the case since I bought it. I just ordered a DDRP from FASS, but haven't installed it. I'm driving a loop from Vegas>Oreg…

  5. after doing a head gasket job on my 1999 24v cummins i started my truck back up after getting everything back together, and i noticed there was a check engine light but didn’t think much of it. once i drove it i realized i had absolutely NO power and no throttle response after 1200 rpms. if i kept the pedal all the way down it would slowly get up to 2000rpms so that my auto trans would finally shift. after getting on a back road and giving her WOT i was able to get up to speed but it was a dog. i had no problems with my VP44before hand. also, when we had the code reader plugged in while driving it said i was only giving 40% throttle while i had it WOT. i have zero boost p…

  6. I need help here. I have a 2001 with the 6 speed. The clutch went out a couple weeks ago so I decided to do some long overdue work on the truck while tackling the clutch job. I put a new south bend dd in and a new slave cylinder assembly. I also changed the drivers fender as well and pressure washed the entire engine and undercarriage. The truck ran perfect when I shut it off to do all the work. I have the air dog 2 with a 2 year old industrial injection vp44. I've always had 20 psi fuel pressure at idle with about 17 at WOT. When I got everything back together and started the truck, it idles perfect but it won't rev above 2000 rpm and started defueling causing a missing …

I poured a gallon of my wife's cooking oil in the tank. Man! I cannot believe how smooth the Cummins seems to love it. I'm pretty sure it has more power up the hills to boot.

  8. Hi, I just joined this site but had visited it for a while now. Lots of good info,Thank you!!! I have found similar threads related to my issue, but seems like thread ends before the problem is resolved or 99% of the time everybody narrow it down to junk vp. I got a 2002, 2500, 6spd, 4x4, qwd cab, with 130k, air dog, 100hp injectors, 3.55 gears, qwad with pulse, 5" pipe, Problem I'm having is driving on highway over 65mph pulling a trailer(rated 14k gross but about 8-10k total) at steady speed , when going up hill truck starts to surge but not much it's noticeable enough to know there is a problem. And if i turn up the fuel box up it gets worse. so it tells me it's fuel r…

Hello there's everyone, hope y'all are doing well I've been fighting an ongoing issue that renders my truck useless, it will not rev past 2300 rpm no matter what you do, once you get past 2000 it pops and misses terribly here's the codes are 1698 ive had forever with zero issues and the p0230 is from my air dog. my grid heater is deleted so I believe that's the other two but the p0251 makes me wonder. It's not the VP as I thought because I got it warrantied with no better results any help would Be great thank you 61619919762__5C17D84F-A4A4-46C2-AA6C-40B6342BFF4C.MOV

  10. 2001 24v. Blue Chip V44, Fass DDRP lift pump, Beans sump with 1/2" hoses, otherwise stock. Autocomputers repaired my ECM and PCM ECM- Replaced Lift Pump circuit, Resoldered CPU, Resoldered Flash Chip, Replaced APP circuit, Replaced 9.5 and 5v drivers. PCM- Replaced voltage regulator, replaced 3 220uf caps, resoldered CPU and Noise Filter. I have replaced the alternator and installed a 5A fuse to protect the PCM. I am testing the wire harness for shorts and haven't found any. If I do the W-T mod first, will it be safe to connect everything and turn the ignition on so I can connect my new BlueDriver and check for fault…

  11. hey guys! Im new here, and new to the cummins world, so please bare with me! I recently picked up a 2002 ram 3500 dually, 6 speed. There are absolutely no modifications the the truck except a brand new raptor frrp 100 gph lift pump, and a brand new thoroughbred diesel injection pump. My problem before was, i started up, warmed up, and left the house, made it about 10 minutes down the road before i started bucking and misfiring, come to find out i had lost all fuel pressure and got the amazing code of p0216. I went ahead and replaced both the lift pump and injection pump, checked voltages on the plugs, checked the numbers on th…

Hey guys, about 4 months after installing a rebuilt ECM on my 2001 Ram 2500 4x4 automatic transmission truck, I pulled out on the road in front of my house and started accelerating up the hill. the truck stumbled really bad, seemed to catch and then went dead. I rolled backward down the hill and rolled back into the yard and started working on the truck. It would not do anything, it would just crank over and not even try to start at all, after trying a couple of times, the fuel pump came on and would not go off until I pulled the relay/fuse. At this point I pulled the smarty out from under the seat, I hooked it up, and it gave an ERROR COMM. TIME OUT, after calling smarty…

So yesterday my truck kept cutting out and having no throttle response. And no wait to start light. Does this mean ecm? No codes either. Already did w-t ground wire mod. Barely started after it died yesterday. Had to turn it over for 15-20 sec before it started back up to get me out of the middle of the road. Checking alternator today. If it is the ecm, can anyone recommend a good place? I’m looking to get one ASAP as it’s my only vehicle. I found this one from Ares Technologies, but i don’t think I know what it looks like because I thought I found it and then they gave me a part number for one 2 times as much.

Not to long ago I did the w-t ground mod with the 150amp breaker on the charge lead from the alternator to the battery (pass side) and it tripped a couple times shortly after install. On the advise here I disconnected the relays for the grid heaters and no more trouble until yesterday. Grid heaters still disconnected, I fired up the truck to run to town, made it about a mile when I noticed the "check gauges" light and my voltage was down to around 10 volts according to the dash gauge. Popped the hood and found the breaker tripped, not sure why. Did not have the lights on, a/c was off. Shouldn't have been any major power draw at the time.

It’s the 2nd time this month the check engine light has come on for this code. I replaced it 2 weeks ago with a new one from Cummins in el paso because I’ve been traveling, this morning the light came on again. i thought something looked off getting on the highway today when I saw on gray smoke and a little black from the exhaust. is there something that is the culprit usually other than a sensor? I’ll be home late tonight or tommorow, but if I can fix it on the road that would be cool to.

What’s up guys? I’m at a loss and like most people, I need to try and get this figured out ASAP. Trucks a 2000 auto. About a month ago went to fire the truck up and check engine light was on and would just crank. Wouldn’t start, just crank. Felt like it was cranking as it (batteries didn’t seem low). I posted something on a different websites and was told to check the batteries and charge them. I did that and truck fired up and check engine light went off. Flew home today for work and went to start my truck at the airport and the same thing happened. Well I purchased a cheap $30 scanner to keep in the truck. It said there was a code being thrown but it wouldn’t tell me wh…

I've just had a vac pump seal kit and a steering pump from Rockauto, arrived in the UK in 3 days so really good service from Rock BUT the vac pump seal kit which is a Dorman 904335 has the most useless main seal in it to the point I'm going to reuse the old one as it is better, good job I didn't remove it from its carrier, the old one has the oil scraper lines in the seal area to move oil away from the lip, the one in the dorman kit is just a sharp lip and some of the lip is malformed, barely see able but oil would find it. £34 and the main seal is going in the bin Mopar kit is not a lot more... my own stupid fault

I have a 1999 2500 with 165,000 miles. I bought the truck 6 months ago with fuel issues taking a chance. It would take partial throttle before cutting out. It had a cheap aftermarket pump on the rail (no name) that had recently been replaced. I immediately ordered a FASS titanium lift pump and b&d sump. I removed the factory fuel filter setup. The truck ran fine With zero issues until a month ago. I filled up, drove 60-70 miles and came home. The next day the truck started to have an intermittent dead pedal. Seems to be only at cruising speed, never during acceleration. Fuel pressure with key on not running is around 18psi so lift pump is fine. Fuel pressure…

I'm not sure if I can post this here, but I really could use some help. Sadly my father passed away in November and left a little debt that I'm trying to pay off. I'm trying to sell his truck But me nor my mother have any idea what to ask for it. Nobody has seemed to be any help so I thought I would try here. I have had several people Make offers on the truck the last being $2500. It has a little over 200000 Miles, runs good. The top of the dash needs to be replaced And the paint Has areas that seem to be peeling But the inside is in good shape. It is a 3500 24 valve Turbo? My dad loved this truck and he would not be happy if I didn't get close to what it was worth. …
