ok guys heres the deal a friend of mine tried hooking his smarty up to my 1998.5 it wouldnt let him, the smarty kept telling him to turn the truck on and then back off again in a row about 5 or 6 times. heres the second part of the puzzle after my friend talked with Bob Wagner from smarty he suggested a short in my wiring so i pluged in my very simple OBDII scanner into the truck it pulled up a P1683 code. this is/was the only code that my scanner found. so now to my question has anyone ever ran into/seen this issue before and what is a P1683 code? thanks for any and all help

Anyone know where you can get parts for a 47re. Had a cooler line fitting break off and can't locate one for threaded lines. Only one I can find is for push in lines which I don't have. Called the local dodge dealer but got more help asking my dog about it. :banghead:

I asked many times what I could do to increase my performance on my 2001, auto. Being in California I can not run a tunner without headaches at smog time. WELL, truck got to 200K and I decided I wanted to change injectors as I am keeping the truck the rest of my life. Eric at Vulcan performance sold me a set of new RV275s. WOW! What an improvement. More power and milage. They improved my milage by 1.5mpg, from 12.5 to 13.9 or 14. Pulling combined load of 19,500 lbs. First thought this was favorable winds but after several trips with real hard 6% grades I am convinced that they are really great.

I found this on another web site... I copied as it was posted and brought it here... The following are the preliminary results of a research study on diesel fuel Lubricity Additives. There is likely to be further commentary and explanation added at a future time. PURPOSE: The purpose of this research was to determine the ability of multiple diesel fuel additives to replace the vital lubricity component in ULSD (Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel) fuel. HISTORY: ULSD fuel is the fuel currently mandated for use in all on road diesel engines. This fuel burns cleaner and is less polluting than it’s predecessor, called Low Sulfer Diesel Fuel. Low sulfer fuel con…

  6. Install some DAP 7x.009 injectors. Everything went smooth and took my time checking everything. Tightened everything to spec's. Bled the system after installing and she cranked right up. Nothing leaks but now after sitting over night I have to crank on it a good minute or so to get it started. Before I couldn't hardly get my hand on the key and it would be running. At first I thought it may be some air in the system still seeking higher ground but after a couple weeks Im starting to wonder if maybe it's something else. I cleaned everything good and also put new orings on the crossovers. Any ideas on what else I should look for. Also have fass lift pump 17 at idle and…

So about this time last year I installed a Valair 13" Upgrade clutch supposed to be rate at 400HP and 900fts torque ( I dont think I'm there but I could be wrong ) and I had zero problems but maybe 2 months ago I went to pass a line of vehicles and bumped up the Quadzilla up romped on it and slip went the clutch. Now it will slip on any setting except stock when I get on it and progressively has gotten worse. So now I'm looking at going to a dual South Bend but before I drop a grand 1) Anyone know of anything I should try to get the current clutch to heal itself or so to speak cause I dont!? 2) I am thinking about doing the 1.375 input shaft upgrade, is it nece…

  8. Blue Chip Diesel is a VP44 specialist... that's all they do. There is an incredible wealth of information including detailed information on diagnosing the VP44 injection pump. If you own a VP44 truck, you need to read this. Blue Chip Diesel on VP44 MODS: May I suggest you sticky this link!

  9. If you have a Smarty & are willing to flash trucks to enable High Idle for other users, where are you & how far are you willing to travel? Thank you, Ed

I finally installed a fuel pressure gauge in my truck. Now I'm wondering what normal operating pressure is. I have an Air Dog 150 and my pressure runs around 18-20. When I get on it, it goes down to about 16 - 18. At start up when the pump cycles it goes to 20. Is that too much? And if so how can I turn the AirDog down?I also noticed today that it was jumping around between 18 - 20 at idle.Lucky

Is it just me or does it make the truck a bit more peppy on the low end. I had to go to a service seminar 4 hours away from home. At 1 intersetion in particular you have to make a sharp turn to the left. I attempted this manuver...at a slow speed ,darn near did a 360 right there. Granted the roads were wet and I have studded winter tires but it was quite warm. WOW it works nice. I drove Like Michael told me for the most part on cruise at the speed limit. I had the Edge set on 5x3. Hand calculated is 20.76 mpg. I am pretty happy with it. A set of RV 275 or so injectors and it should be sweet. I wonder what these trucks would be like with an unlimited computer co…

02 3500 6 speed HO. 252k miles. Still has factory injectors & HX35W turbo, etc. No tuning mods (Yet. Maybe quadzilla and DAP 100hp 7X0.009 VCO injectors in the near future) Anyhow, my questions is this: I added a boost elbow recently. How much boost gain can I expect by adding a boost elbow? I was getting 22 psi before installing boost elbow. After installing went up to about 24 psi max. Is that to be expected? Or is there a possibility my waste gate is not fully closing? Figured I'd get some feedback from you guys before I start taking things apart. What comes first, chicken or egg? Does the fueling increase relative to boost increase? Or does t…

O.K , Today I noticed that when i idled up engine around 1800-1900 i noticed a slight miss{ fuel knock}. When i fuel it up to 2000 and held it there steady it got worse, 2100+ was worse. Injection pump & AirDog Lift pump 3-MONTHS OLD, new DDP injectors 2-MONTHS OLD I almost think its water in fuel but i thought the AD water seperator takes care of that getting these codes: PCU 0500 ECU 0230 Anyone know what this ma be?? I'm new to posting here, but have been reading tons of threads, suggestions, and related story issues here over the past month and a half. I am working on a friends 01 that I cannot seem to get figured out. This started for him last fall with the truck having dead pedal issues, stuttering/miss, and a small hand full of codes. I unfortunately don't have those codes to reflect on now, but the agreed upon synopsis was that the VP44 was on its way out so we made a plan to attack it this spring. Back in April I installed a new VP44 from Bluechip Diesel along with the Airdog FRRP lift pump. At this time I also installed 2 new Interstate Batteries. The truck fired right up…

If there's already a thread could someone link me it? My gearbox on my 99 is leaking pretty badly, like from full it'll leak out in a day, and instead of just resealing the gearbox can I just install a 4th gen steering box? I remember someone I follow on Instagram putting one on his 2nd gen (I don't know the year) but I didn't know if it was possible on a 99 since it isn't the newer front end. Anything helps. Thanks!

  16. I'm disabled & have to send out virtually all work. I have an original maker AirDog... out of warentee because if how I bought it... mounted to the frame rail. I like the mechanical pumps but am afraid I can't send something that complicated to a shop. Wife has the truck... broken down in Vt. So I have to make choices, long distance. I'm going to have to deal with it tomorrow.

As some of you might remember my clutch has been going away. After nursing it for the past few weeks I got home to day and dont have to go back to work until a week from Monday. On top of that this is what greets me when I arrived. Sure am happy to have this and the truck gets parked tomorrow for install. There were a couple things that surprised me with the clutch. First the throw out bearing, googled the part # and it came up a bearing made in China. It would appear that it is a common bearing and apparently SKF and Timken both sell the same bearing also. No markings on the bearing what so ever. The other is the makings on the organic facing of the di…

Hi all, I have what I believe is a 47re trans. question, so I'm a new owner of this truck and I'm admitting I'm more than a little nieve when it comes to transmissions. Anyhow, the truck seems to run pretty good and has a "built" trans. as in shift kit, beefed up torque conv. etc.. The prior owner said you have to kinda power brake it when it's cold or it dies when shifted into gear, said it had something to do with stall or? Well sure enough every time it sits overnight I have to go through the same ritual and then the rest of the day it does fine, idles fine, @750ish? Runs great, shifts great I've tried letting it sit and warm up for quite a while, but no, same thing lik…

Getting set to start upgrading my ‘01, including 100hp injectors, head studs, turbo, FASS, clutch, exhaust, exhaust brake, Quad, and gauges. At what point should I consider upgrading to heavier valve springs? I’m targeting around 450-475 whp with the changes I’m making, but at what point should the stock valve springs be updated? Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!

02 dodge 4x4 - Truck seems to unlock converter from around 50 to 60 mph. RPMs go up and down about 200 rpms. At times the throttle can make no difference if it is on the floor or not, the engine stays at the same rpm. We replaced the apps about 6 months ago and it seemed to cure the problem, but it is back.
