Ok I love the sound of my truck, it’s straight piped to a large tip and has an open air box with great turbo sound. But I have to say it, it’s too loud. So simple question, can I make it quieter without sacrificing flow? Looking maybe at muffler or dual mufflers or maybe some sort of attenuator. I daily drive and use this for normal stuff like going through a drive through or stopping to talk for a second with friends or other parents at my kids school. But I also use it like a work truck, towing and hauling campers, equipment, firewood, etc. Can anyone help with this dilemma?

Howdy guys it’s been a while since I have posted! A lot has changed in the last few months. I sold the 2000 6 speed and bought a 99 24 valve automatic trans. The new truck has 102k miles. No rust absolute mint condition all original. I’ve got a few questions regarding the 47re that is in the new rig. First thing I’ll be doing is gauges. Trans, fuel, and boost. First off I need a rundown on what a tc lockup switch is and how it works and will it benefit my stock trans. Next is they’re some upgrades I should do to help with trans longevity? Truck is all stock with no plans to add any power. As of now the trans shifts perfect. I know some people will say I’m crazy to sell a 6…

Hello, I have a guys 2001 Dodge that is losing about two to three quarts of oil out the breather tube in 50 miles. This tube comes out the side of the lifter/pushrod cover. The truck runs fine and is not underpowered but there is also a good deal of blow by coming out the oil fill at the rocker cover. Right off the bat I’m thinking bad rings but I’ve read some other forums that said a bad vacuum pump could cause this also. It started happening all of a sudden which causes me concern that it might be a vacuum pump if that can cause it. Thoughts?

  6. When I first got the truck, there was a lot of black smoke coming out the tail pipe, more or less all of the time. I changed the fuel filter and most of it stopped (I don't think it had ever been changed), but perhaps that is coincidental. Now I get quite a bit of black smoke when I step on it. I also put in a fuel pressure gague and the fuel pressure is running about 12-13 at idol and can drop well below 5 when I put the hammer down. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great!

So, I decided I would give my injectors a little looky-loo. A few days ago, I did this. After fumbling around trying to figure out what wrench size the injector lines were, I got a wrench on them while the truck was running and all of them responded to them being cracked open. I was not able to get to cyl. #2 and #6. Is there a way to get to these injectors? Also, it seemed like it took a good amount of force to crack them open. I have never heard of a torquing device that would use an open-ended application like a wrench. How do I know if I tightened them enough or not enough?I have been avg. about 16mpg now after my BHAF install. I'm curious to see how my injectors are d…

  8. I've mentioned this in few of my replies but now it's getting worse. It actually stumbled for a bit today when it blew some smoke out. It definitely smells like oil. I'm not loosing any antifreeze but it does seem to use a little bit of oil, I heard the oil I use (Cen-Pe-Co) is known for that so didn't think nothing of it. Last summer I did head gasket and new guides in head. So my guess is ether a seal was faulty or a guide not true that ruined a seal prematurely. I don't think it's the turbo seal because engine runs rough and if it was exhaust seal on turbo I don't think it would change how engine runs. Is there anything else I'm missing that can cause mostly whit…

Has anyone ran a baldwin b50 on a 2nd gen 24v for a oil bypass? Just found a kit locally for super cheap and was wondering if it was worth it. Been doing some research and the info is kind of iffy if the hole size in the filter is too big?

I replaced my water pump a few months ago and ever since I have had fluctuating temps. The new pump is a bosch from pepboys and had a shroud on the impeller and the old unit did not, I also noticed the new one was harder to turn than the old one but that is to be expected. My temp used to set right around 188-194 and now driving down the interstate at 70 I get swings from 188-222 today. It would go up pretty fast and come back down to around 200-205 or so but I cant help but theink its the new pump. I may try a new radiator cap too but what does everyone think? --- Update to the previous post... The old pump worked great but I did a coolant flush and it leaked f…

I took the plunge and ordered a fuel boss this morning from Glacier Diesel. I ordered and extra belt and the hobbs override switch. I'm not in need of a lift pump replacement yet, but having not upgraded my system yet, now's as good a time as ever. Also ordered new thermostat, hoses, water pump, and bosch alternator rebuild kit from geno's to stay ahead of power curve on that as well.I'll do my best to take some pics when I install the fuel boss and do a write up on the installation. Richard at Glacier Diesel, as has been numerous time reported both here and other forums, was great to deal with. He answered my emails promptly this morning and instilled confidence in my de…

Hey guys, about 4 months after installing a rebuilt ECM on my 2001 Ram 2500 4x4 automatic transmission truck, I pulled out on the road in front of my house and started accelerating up the hill. the truck stumbled really bad, seemed to catch and then went dead. I rolled backward down the hill and rolled back into the yard and started working on the truck. It would not do anything, it would just crank over and not even try to start at all, after trying a couple of times, the fuel pump came on and would not go off until I pulled the relay/fuse. At this point I pulled the smarty out from under the seat, I hooked it up, and it gave an ERROR COMM. TIME OUT, after calling smarty…

  13. Hey everyone, I hope all is well. I currently have a Bosch alternator and even with the WT mod I am experiencing high AC ripple. I plan to replace the alternator and am wondering if I can replace it with a Denso unit as they seem to be more plentiful than the Bosch units. I also plan to keep my stock alternator and rebuild it with a new rectifier, bearings and brushes. Has anyone rebuilt their Bosch alternator? I'm curious if it is easy to do. I have found a replacement rectifier online so they are available. Thanks and I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving. L8tr d

  14. Hi all more knowledgabe than I: In several circumstances there is talk of bleeding air from lines such as when a fuel filter is replaced, when the fuel pressure guage is installed, etc. My question is: How exacty is this done? I've heard that you turn the key three times. Is that with the clutch depressed to make the engine turn over or just with the key and no engine turn over? In the instructions for hooking up a fuel line to a guage isoator, the manual talkes about running the lift pump until the fuel flows good without air. How do you do this while you are in your truck turning the key, or cranking the engine? Hope the question makes sense. It will be obvious …

  15. So, I have repaired the front axle ABS sensor/hub/bearing or whatever you wanna call it, and have yet another pending DTC. P0126 -- not one I'm pleaseantly happy to see. I have little money to make it into next week, due to the repair I just made. Why do bad things happen to good people? Is there any way to keep the Injection pump from failing completely. I just need it to last me long enough so I can save up the funds to purchase a new one, seeing as how they aren't cheap. Anyone got an extra pump laying around?

Hey Mike , wanted to ask your opinion on something, I had send you this link last month http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-powertrain/260716-vp44-electronic-fix.html . So I did it on my second truck that I have been working on because I was getting dead pedal and the code P0216 so I gave it a try and now I have been trying to turn the truck on and it wont start. This is what I have done so far : I loosen the banjo bolt on the vp and fuel did came out from there with a lot of pressure ,then I loosen injector line 3,4 and 5 and I am only getting fuel on injectors 4 and 5 ,on 4 is were it comes out the most and on 5 it only drips . Could I have messed up the pump ? I …

Anyone know who makes the oem intercooler? I think I read somewhere it was Valeo? VALEO 817151 I think mine is leaking somewhere, need to do a boost leak test next weekend to verify, and I can't justify spending almost $900 for a Mishimoto, the cheapest one, when I can get oem for $400. Correct me if I'm wrong, but an aftermarket intercooler isn't going to net me much of anything with 100hp injectors, super b, quadzilla xzt and not towing really heavy.

So my VP went out towards end of April. I purchased a new pump from thoroughbred with the new electronics. Immediately following install upon starting the truck I had a 0251 and 0252 DTC. I went back and forth with their tech trying to trouble shoot it. They ended up sending me a second vp. I ruled out all causes on the vehicle end that could cause 0251 and 0252. I have not shipped both pumps back to them and they want to charge me an additional 650$ for the second pump they sent out because the fuel shop says fuel contamination. The pumps had a total of less Than 5 minutes of run time total. Both pumps IMMEDIATELY began throwing the DTC’s. Any advice on how to handle…

Thinking my ddrp is taking a crap on me. Hopped in this morning and had 11 or 12 psi at idle and usually have 18 or 19. Wot is usually 12 14 now is 8 or less... Thinking that could be my power thief when I was pulling the trailer?
