Since it was 10F this morning and going to be the same or colder tomorrow morning I figured I will get some statistics on how well a winter front works. I want to get mileage and time as to how long it takes to hit 190F. I will do a constant 55mph for these tests and be on the road within a minute of starting. Today was without a winter front going straight into 20-30mph headwinds at 10F. Although synthetic oil seemed to not do anything at 20+F, you will notice that it cranks slower now that the conventional oil I am running starts to get really thick, you can even see how long it takes for it to get oil pressure. So synthetic does have it's place in the colder…

  4. Is this a ujoint or something else? Noise only happens in reverse gear with engine running, no noise when backing in neutral with the engine off. Noise disappears when in forward gear.

Hi drove my 1999 3500 24v truck to work the other day and parked came back to it in the evening and whent to start it, first thing i noticed was no wts light. It turned over but fail to start and no fuel pump and no bus showing in odometer. Popped the hood and could smell burnt wires. The joint connection 2 in the pdc burned up the local dodge dealer told me that usually the pdc gives out 90% of the time the pdc shorts out its self and causes this but I'm not sure about that. I got a good used one from a local parts truck my plan is to clean all the grounds and check for shorts then I will hook the batteries back up and pull what codes i can. Just wondering what else i sho…

  6. Does anyone have any info about the pins on a 1998.5 OBD port and where the wires go. I.E. Where the chassis and signal ground go. Im trying to diagnose a faulty smarty cable or faulty obd/truck wiring. I have a 2002 ecu and a rebuilt 1998.5 ECU. I purchased a flash file from smarty to flash the 2002 to my 1998.5. IThe smarty would connect to the ECU while it was connected to the 2002 donor truck. IT wont on my truck. It wont connect to the 1998.5 or 2002 ecu while on my truck. I can hook my scan tool up to my truck and it will connect to both and read codes on both? SOOOOO I think something might be wrong with my obd port.

What are the stock coil springs rated for/design load...on a 4x4? Does quad cab vs single cab matter? I was just looking at stock height coils and can only seem to find ones for single cab or shorter wheel base.

It's close to how I want it and yes the license plate recess is off center because I goofed lol. I will be able to have everything cut with a CNC laser thanks to a guy I met at Cola Warrior. Also what is this?

I came out of work a couple of days ago and saw my passenger side headlight lens was just hanging by the rubber strip. I've been wanting to get new headlights but with all the choices I've been a little overwhelmed. I know I didn't want just cheap Amazon lights (no offense to those that went that route) and I wanted more than just new housings with the same bulbs. Do I get sport headlights? Do I pay $$$ and get retros? Well, with this new development I guess I didn't have time to debate the issue any longer. My new lights have been ordered and should be here soon. Stay tuned to find out what I got and how they work... I'm so excited

I am adding a 20" light bar to my 01. I will be making a bracket to add it under my rear hitch, somewhat hidden as much as possible as it is a slim lightbar. Can I run the harness to my non main battery without ill effects? I will be running an inline fuse as well as a relay. My goal is to flip the switch on while backing up to increase my visibility while backing as my reverse lights are not bright at all. Would it work best running from my main battery?

  11. Let me say yesterday I got a good scare. Travelled up to McCall, ID to do my usual shopping. I normally take the back road around McCall to the store. When I started to approach the light I was easing into the brakes and all of a sudden the ABS is back pumping me not allowing to even stop. I was saying my prayers before I rear ended the car ahead of me. Then at the last 5 MPH of coasting the ABS tripped the light and brakes hit NOW. Missed the car ahead of me by inches. Now let me say I've replace all 3 speed sensors and been seeing the random light now and then. I've even tried with no shims in the front and now back to 1 and 1 in the front and the lights stay out for th…

  12. I noticed on my 1998.5 dodge that the passenger side is 1” higher than the drivers side? I have not to my knowledge adjusted anything on the truck that would make 1 side sit 1” higher? I measured with a tape measure and it’s 11.25 on passenger side to top of tire and 10.5 on driver side to top of tire. Isn’t there bolts with oblong nuts on control arms? Orrr how would I fix this?

So I put a new set of Cooper Discover at3 tires on about 3,000 miles ago. I looked at them today and the fronts are still new at 16/32nds but the rears are already worn to 13/32nds maybe a little less. -I'm not out doing burnouts or even launching starts. -Little to no hauling or towing with these tires. -Pretty much all highway miles with maybe 20 miles of dirt road. -60psi It should be noted that my last set of tires (Firestone Transforce AT) wore quickly also, about 20k and they were down to 4/32nds. I just chalked it up as junk tires. So what gives, I know they're softer tires but at this rate I'll be lucky to make it through the winte…

So it seems this is the summer where all the problems start showing, leaking p.s. pump, passenger axel seal leak, front brakes, and now tie rod ends. Not enough time in a day to adress it, but will be making time here pretty quick. So I know there is a 4th gen conversion I can do for the t style setup, but is it worth it? I still have 16s on my truck, so I'd have to grind off a knuckle or two for it to fit right? What's the price for one and who would be a reputable vendor for it? And are there any problems to worry about with the 4th gen setup? Like recalls and such? Other wise I saw Luke's links has all four greasable on…

Just a post about auto trans vs manual trans and brake pad life I just put the new front pads and calipers on my truck.....There were only 25,000 on those pads. Pass side with sticky caliper wore way more. could have gone 30k maybe. Drivers side had plenty left....I just wanted to get this sticky caliper fixed . If both sides wore evenly with good calipers I might get 40k on front pads at most, with my Automatic trans... These are just semi metallic auto zone Dura last pads..... I use semi metallics because hey are easier on my rotors These auto trans trucks really eat brakes..... Im always on them brake trying to keep it slowed down wi…

I'm curious if anyone has a picture of a steering column mounted gauge on a 2nd gen truck? I'm wanting to add a drive pressure gauge and think that would make a good place to mount it but I'm a little worried it will block my view of the speedo?

Geez... I'm not getting break here. Well just finished my gauge project and now found my first crack in my dash on the passenger side of the truck. I was doing a bit of surfing the forum and links of dash providers seem to of gotten old so I'm going to ask all you what you used for dash replacement, caps, etc.

Hey guys sorry to bring this up again! I have searched and haven’t found answers to my questions! So I would like to upgrade my stock headlights. I have ruled out hids because of price and all. I think I would like to do the sport light upgrade. I need someone to post a link to lights they have bought and love!! I’m looking for smoked stockbstyle headlights but don’t have to have them. Now my question is if I do this swap is it completely plug and play? If inget a Geno,s Britebox is this goin to work well with this setup? Thanks guys!! I found a sport wiring harness and britebox together at Genos has anyone used this ? Is it good quality? If I get that all I w…

After getting rear ended by a loser with a suspended license and no insurance I decided it was time for a real rear bumper. I really didn't want to spend $700-1500 for a bumper so I started building my own. It's all 1/4" plate with 1/2" brackets. I got all the metal from Metal Supermarket from their cut table for 0.75 per pound. I still have to cut holes for the back-up lights, weld the bumper to the mounts, and either paint or powder coat it. When this one is finished I will be moving on to the front bumper. I plan to build it in the same style and have a winch mount. If anyone has done something similar i welcome any input, criticism, or advice. This is my first bumper…

  20. I am at a crossroads, just moved to California and it is time to deal with Smog and licensing the '01.... truck has 350k miles on it, trans synchros are tired in 3rd and 4th, door hinges are shot, leaks oil (either tappet cover or the vacuum pump).. bed is in rough shape, little rust in the lower door skins... So thinking, if I was going to make a change, now would be a good time. So if I did make a change my wife would like me to get a non dually (we don't tow anything too large anymore so that is no issue) maybe a short bed would fit in the garage. Maybe a 3rd gen would have 4 real doors... oops did I say 3rd gen???? So dilemna that could use some wisdom..... a…
