Thinking of upgrading my truck to something newer. Can I tow my fifth wheel with a short bed meaning the 6 1/2ft bed? Not really wanting to buy a new sliding hitch. It is hard to find a 1 ton long bed srw around here. Would I benifit going to the 1ton over a 3/4 ton? I have heard there is only like 500lbs difference in capacity. Thanks

Fellas, I posted over on CF too, looking at a Kaufman 14000 GVWR or 15000 GVWR Gooseneck equipment hauler. Anyone have any feedback on this companies trailers?

Hey guys, I know this is bit of a 'who cares' sort of question but was just curious what receiver locks you all were using? I mainly ask because I want to make sure I'm getting one that's not only a decent lock, but also strong enough to handle the loads these trucks can haul! Just from looking around, I saw on etrailers they have ones like these that seem to be a good option https://www.etrailer.com/Locks/Bulldog/BD580400.html what do you all think?

  5. Hi, My owners manual states: ”Adding lights or electrical devices to the headlamp/park lamp circuit without a separate relay can damage the headlamp switch and wire harness.” Further and more specific to my 3500, it states: “All Ram pickup models with cab clearance lights or any 3500 models must add a relay to the circuit before drawing any current from the headlamp switch.” I am going to be hauling a Gooseneck and I’m wanting to know if anyone has a relay for the additional lighting on their trailer. Thanks Leaky

I'm working on getting the 'model' of the RV, but anyway, here's the scoop... My dad passed away last year. Mom has since began the task of estate sale, selling the house, etc., and will be moving in late June. She bought a 38ft gooseneck TT and parked it at my brother's house. He lives on ~5 acres, and has a huge 40 x 60 shop out back. He's in the process of tying in septic and such for mom's TT. It's just her and two dogs now, so the 38' x 12' (bumped out) unit will be her new home; that's what she wants... So, to get to the RV portion.. Dad had a 1988 or 89 Ford E350 chassis Class C motor home. It's got a 460 (not sure if it's carb'd or FI), 28ft long, AC/heat…

  7. Im tired of renting houses for too much money a month and am thinking about getting a 5th wheel or travel trailer and trying it out for a year. I really dont know the first thing about them and could use some opinions. I dont want to buy a new one because I dont want to be a ton of money into it. I have been eyeballing this one because it has washer and dryer hookups and I believe a king bed. https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/rvs/d/lewisville-2007-silverback-by-cedar/7062380123.html

Looking back at some old threads I see some that have installed the Harbor freight RV solar kit, I was thinking of going the same route, just wondering if any pros or cons with that kit/ anything I need to upgrade? I plan on making it portable, but one thing I would like to do is wire in a inverter so all the 120 outlets would be available for power. Just looking for some input. thanks also plan on using to 6v batteries They are about 215 ah. I hope the 45w panels are enough for charging, but I do have a generator for back up if needed.

Need to buy a trailer for work to haul large plastic storm water chambers to jobsites, 4' and 5' tall, 8' long, some 8' wide. Weight wise the most I would carry would be around 3,000lbs, but normal weekly trips would only be about 1,000lbs, plus trailer weight, towing with my 1/2 ton chevy. I could squeak by with size wise with some 7x10/12' single axles, or is it worth it to go with tandem? Looking at this trailer here below, besides getting some extra room and greater gvwr, does going from single to tandem gain me much? I usually only have 2hr commutes, sometimes 3hr. This would be my trailer that I rent out to my company, I'm debating spending the extra $1,000 for a bi…

A while back the wife and I decided we wanted to upgrade to a 5er for a couple of reasons. Our current TT has been great and served us well since buying it new in 2012 (2011 close out model, great buy). Alas, a 5th week as been on our list for a bit but we’re rather picky on brand. Based on construction techniques and frame design we were only willing to purchase a trailer built within the Nash Family of trailers. Those are the commonly known Arctic Fox or Fox Mountain 5th wheels, or the less common Outdoors RV’s. Our TT is a Outdoors RV, so we have first had experience with their “off-road chassis”. Most Outdoors RV’s 5th wheels are in their Glacier Peak …

For light duty vehicles with good tires, I have always been of the opinion that if I need chains I shouldn't be making the trip. Sofar, through CO, WY, UT, ND, SD, MT & NM oilfield travel in all weather, I haven't been wrong. However, I don't normally tow in the winter. As an engineer, I didn't have to drive the 18 wheelers to location, and they were almost always chained on all drives, steers, and at least one set of drags. I am going to have to tow my household home from AR to CO this winter (Jan-Feb). I am on the fence if it would be a wise move to buy chains for my truck and the rear axle on my trailer. Pix of trailer below. The cost will be pretty st…

  12. Started by Hawkez,

I took my boys fishing Fontenelle Reservoir in southwest Wyoming over the past several days and wanted to give my opinion on the batteries that I recently put in my trailer. In July I bought 2 Energizer EGC2-122 (6V/232 amp hour) batteries from Sam's Club. I have taken the trailer out a couple of times since I bought them but only for a couple of days at a time. We spent 5 days and 4 nights in camp with no ability to recharge the batteries (I don't have a generator or solar panels, yet.) I was nervous about them lasting the trip so I tried to be as conservative as possible and as much as 2 young boys will allow. The highs were in the 50's and 60's but the lows wer…

Being I'm packing up the RV I started thinking about the lighting in the RV. I found an Amazon page that has LED lights in sets of 20 for cheap $13 for all 20 LED lights. That's a mere 67 cents a bulb. I can change out all my lights in the RV for next to nothing. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076V9XXW6/

I'm thinking of getting a travel trailer to live in while I build a house, somewhat long term, maybe 2 years. Any recommendations? Spending about 20k, just for just me for now. I have no idea what to look for or stay away from, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, John

I need batteries for the 5th wheel I just purchased. What do you guys use? What keeps a charge longer and last longer? 2 12v or 2 6v stacked to make 12v?

I found evidence of a mouse in my trailer. I was going to go through with a can of expanding foam but was wondering if rodents will chew through that and eventually make their way back in. Thoughts?

I just had to do it. Nick over there talking about his slide in camper so I hitch up and moved mine out from under the tree. Then started to clean up the inside from all winter of sitting. Lots of dead flies, and other little critters to clean up. Just to show off the mobile man cave. Nice and roomy with the slide out. Bring it back in well it's tight but you can still use it. Full size queen bed not one of those short RV queen beds. A better picture of the power cabinet with the inverter, solar controller, converter, fuse panel and breaker box. So I'm on task for getting the RV ready for another season o…

Hello all! I'm the new owner of a 1990 HI-LO 25 footer. I know nothing about campers. I didn't even know it went up and down til the guy put it down for me to tow. The roof needs repaired and it is like a fabric rubber coated looking material. What would you guys use to recoat? I'm sort of favoring doing the worse spots with Eternabond tape and then Koolseal over it all. The Koolseal supposedly comes in a formula for non metal roofs but I couldn't find it. Sound like a plan? I have A LOT to learn here so I'll take all suggestions. Thanks
